  1. Top telecom analyst Craig Moffett has resigned his post at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Inc. and is considering starting his own firm, Bloomberg first reported Thursday. Moffett, who has touted cable stocks such as Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc. during his decade at the company, later confirmed to Multichannel News that Jan. 31 was his last day with the research outfit, but didn't elaborate on his long-term plans. http://www.lightreading.com/internet-video/apple-tv-set-to-land-hbo-go/240147620 Awww.... I hope he got fired.
  2. The national security review has nothing to do with the FCC. The FCC should do its job and the the other agencies should do theirs. If they're laggards, then they should hurry up.
  3. You're obviously holding it wrong:). Antennagate redux, except since it's not an iPhone, the pundits are not going to pounce on it. All phones have the same problem to some degree, some more than others.
  4. They paid $4.4B for the lower 700MHz spectrum. I have not added the numbers either but they definitely lost money.

  6. http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/verizon-sell-700-mhz-b-block-spectrum-att-19b/2013-01-25 This will allow AT&T to offer 10x10MHz LTE channels nationwide.
  7. On the other hand, it amazes me that Verizon, despite the massive amounts of advertising and a rock solid network has not made more inroads in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market. 8% for Verizon, despite the fact that a lot of people moved down from up north. T-Mobile has 15.6% and others (including Metro have 23.6).
  8. I have not tested their LTE, but their voice network in those three areas you mentioned Austin, San Antonio and Houston as well as the areas south of Houston is well built. Where they have coverage, they have good coverage with good site density. I have found the same to be true of Metro after they finish building a market. I would definitely put up Metro's network against Sprint's in the areas they provide service. I wish Sprint would have acquired both companies and used some of their sites.
  9. It's amazing, to me, the sheer dominance of AT&T in Texas.
  10. Are those numbers for all markets? Which thread is that?
  11. He would have to have service from both in order to compare. I had service from both when I worked in Austin from 2007-2009 so I have had some experience on both networks.
  12. Better than Sprint's in some places (Austin, South Texas..) worse in others.
  13. Yes you still would, but the tower spacing is not as critical, you can just turn up the power just as long as you don't interfere. Fixed broadband is really the best use of the AWS-4 spectrum and the EBS/BRS spectrum. You can use it for OTT video to stationary/ nomadic devices, VOD, etc.
  14. Here a simple explanation of Carrier Aggregation (with further reading links): http://www.3gpp.org/Carrier-Aggregation-explained According to that both intraband contiguous and intraband not contiguous as well as interband non-contiguous are supported.
  15. Actually I was thinking that they could pair them with their other 700MHz holdings.
  16. So if you pair D&E with PCS and made D&E the primary and PCS the secondary, what would be wrong with that?
  17. If AT&T gets Dish's E block, with their holdings of B, C, D and E blocks they would be sitting pretty.
  18. Dish's 700 MHz is 6MHz TDD only so it will be useful to AT&T only to combine with their other 700MHz holdings in a CA scheme.
  19. Yeah, maybe the old Sprint would. The new Sprint with Masayoshi will be a lot more aggressive.
  20. You just couldn't resist, could you? But you're showing your age:).
  21. I have long advocated that Sprint buy Metro and Leap for their PCS/AWS spectrum, trading AWS to T-Mobile and AT&T. I think that Sprint will make a bid for T-Mobile/Metro. I don't know whether it will come before or after both deals close.
  22. Another take from Businessweek: Another knock on the argument that markets are efficient, omniscient, and all-predicting: Clearwire (CLWR), a wireless company that was left for dead by many shareholders mere months ago, is suddenly theobject of a somewhat-kabuki bidding war betweenSprint Nextel (S) (another wireless player whose ownsolvency was recently in question) and Dish Network (DISH), a satellite TV provider not commonly associated with wireless. Clearwire shares, which were at 83 cents in July, are now bid for $3.30 by Dish, valuing the company at $5 billion. Spite, chessmanship, and regulatory meddling are all being cited as motivators of Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen’s long-shot offer. Confused? Do be. Because this corporate drama is as much about the generosity of today’s QE3-charged debt markets—where the hunt for yield is driving just about everything—as it is about the hunt for spectrum. .............................. http://www.businessw...-for-our-times?
  23. Maybe they can threaten to make a counter proposal to MetroPCS.
