  1. Pfft... We have been saying that on this site and others for years. Throw in Apple and Microsoft and you got some traction.
  2. Verizon has been saying they will implement VOLTE for a while now. End of 2014, yeah right!
  3. If you advertise unlimited, then they can't redefine unlimited to miean 2.5Gb or 3 or 5. Now, they can throttle your speed to enforce fairness but total consumption caps are deceitful when your are promised unlimited. The Sprint plans are nothing to write home about. At this stage I would definitely go with Verizon since they have the better coverage.
  4. I have stated my objection to GB based caps. I like speed based caps or even off peak/on peak pricing. Anything else is just gouging.
  5. It is the network. I hope by the end of 2014, Sprint has their network improvements finished. I don't necessarily mean have native service in Podunk, Montana, but have native service that's second to none in all the suburban and exurban areas and all the highways.
  6. I would like them as a backup connection to my cable connection. Alas, their protection site cannot penetrate the walls or the window glass.
  7. T-Mobile loses 515, 00 postpaid customers in Q4. But what stuck with me was the following: Financials: T-Mobile said total revenue for the quarter clocked in at $4.91 billion, with service revenue making up $4 billion of the total. Both figures were down year-over-year, with total revenue off 5.2 percent and service revenue down 9.2 percent. However, total revenue did improve sequentially for the second straight quarter. T-Mobile said branded contract revenue declined sequentially by 4.3 percent to $3.4 billion and 13.9 percent year-on-year, reflecting the increased sales of Value plans and the loss of branded contract customers. 8. Unless Sprint deploys 2.6GHz on all their sites, they will not achieve scale. Heck, China Mobile is going to deploy TDD-LTE on 200,000 sites. Clearwire will deploy to 5,000 at least according to current plans. Sprint has spectrum issues in more than those two areas: Off the top of my head they have problems in Florida and the San Fran area. The Wimax coverage in both areas leaves a lot to be desired. I have not experienced the Wimax in Houston or Chicago, but if it is anywhere near the experience in Orlando or Jacksonville then, sorry I don't buy it. Yes they will deploy LTE on 800MHz and 1900MHz and of course on 2.6GHz, but 1900MHz is their bread and butter frequency and I feel they should have a 15x15 or 20x20 LTE allocation on 1900MHz everywhere. Now they might be able to achieve that between PCS G, PCS H and A-F, without acquiring anybody. But I also want them to grow their user base. The reason I suggested that they just take the BRS spectrum and run is that unless they have TV ambitions, 60MHz on 2.6Mhz is more than enough spectrum for hotspot duty. It also might not trigger a spectrum screen where as 160Mhz might. The other reason I want them to sell Clearwire minus the BRS spectrum is that Clearwire+Dish will be seen as a viable 5th nationwide competitor and might make it easier for the FCC to approve a Sprint/T-Mobile merger, which I know it's being looked at.
  9. AJ, you know how I feel about Clearwire. I'm not sure that I really like the all that spectrum and even the network that they bring in. How does Clearwire's network integrate with Sprint's. What are they going to do with all of Clearwire's sites and leases? I personally believe that Sprint should actually just get their BRS spectrum back from Clearwire and let Dish have the rest. I think they should have gone after both Metro and Leap last summer. Heck, I would like to see them acquire USCC as well. But then I'm just a forum jockey.
  10. Sprint needs to stop farting around and secure some more PCS spectrum. Leap comes to mind, so does Metro....
  11. GM has kicked Verizon to the curb and will instead now use AT&T's LTE network to power embedded broadband services in the company's vehicles. According to company press statements, the AT&T LTE network will now power GM's safety and security services offered by OnStar, as well as a "new suite of infotainment services like streaming audio, web access, applications, and even video for backseat passengers." Further details of the partnership are expected to be announced this week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The partnership will start with 2015 models that will hit the market in 2014 in both Canada and the United States. I hope that Sprint gets into the telematics game.
  12. Now that makes more sense. But then what does Dish do with their orphaned uplink (converted from downlink)?
  13. AJ, I understood all of that the first time. What does it have to do with Lightsquared and the L-Band?
  14. They're out of their freakin mind..... yep I will take that Macbook Air 99/100 times.
  15. I don't understand what Tim is talking about when he talks about Lightsquared and converting the 2MHz spectrum into downlink. How is that going to get DISH in a much better position to challenge Sprint in the auction for the H-block spectrum?
  16. AJ, I thought they could add one more panel per sector. On the other hand some of their sites are on/in flagpoles, church steeples, so I'm not sure you can add anything to those.
  17. Why does he not go with T-Mobile for hosting? They have upgraded or are in the process of upgrading their network. If all he wants is to get into the wireless business for handheld devices, then T-Mobile might be a better bet. What's the end game? The handheld device market is saturated. Yes,. he might be able to pry a few customers away from the big four but I believe it's a losing proposition. The only conclusion is that Charlie wants to use Clearwire's spectrum and network for more than just data for handhelds. I believe that he wants it for fixed broadband and in particular VOD for devices as well as media gateways, video streaming for cars, internet gaming, etc. I believe that Sprint should let him have the EBS leases and Clearwire network for a price as long as Sprint recovers their BRS spectrum. It might be a cheap price to pay for being allowed by the FCC to absorb T-Mobile/Metro.
  18. I would not be surprised if Sprint makes a play for Leap if only for the spectrum. Yes they have a mixture of AWS and PCS, but they could probably trade AWS for PCS with a willing partner (T-Mobile/Metro)?
  19. Dish Network ( NASDAQ: DISH) Chairman Charlie Ergen said the company would consider a partnership with Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S), which Dish is challenging with a rival bid for Clearwire (NASDAQ:CLWR). On Dish's fourth-quarter earnings conference call yesterday, Ergen said he thought Dish's unsolicited $3.30 per share offer for 40 MHz of spectrum and a commercial agreement with Clearwire is "clearly a better deal than what Sprint has offered," which is $2.97 per share for control of the 50 percent of Clearwire it does not already own. Clearwire's board has said it is reviewing the Dish offer but still recommends the one from Sprint. "If that transaction [Dish's offer to Clearwire] went through, Sprint's your most likely partner," Ergen said, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript. "The reverse of that is, is that, that offer is not accepted or there's a bidding war for Clearwire, right? And were we to lose that bidding war or if we were not to prevail for our offer for Clearwire, then Sprint's probably not a likely partner." Ergen also said Dish will need to see how the bids play out, and what the regulatory environment is with the FCC. But he said the company has "other options." Still, Ergen said Dish's offer would be good for Sprint and Clearwire and that "we're playing to win." The old Sprint needed your money to help with their NV. The new Sprint does not. Yeah, Sprint, if you lose, we'll throw you a bone. I don't think Masayoshi Son likes that.
  20. Mr Son will be aggressive. Passive is not his style. With the 70% ownership he can bypass the overly conservative board.
  21. I would like to see where they are deficient and where can they obtain the rest.
  22. It's either that or sell his spectrum at a loss. Nobody is interested in hosting his spectrum anymore.
