  1. Looks like despite the battery being only 300mAh larger, the overall life is better much better even without considering the larger battery. If you read into this review on AC comparing it to last year's HTC One M7: "Put it this way: That we’re seeing 15 hours of use — and this during a testing week as well, in which we’re taking a lot of pictures and using the phone more than we might otherwise, just trying to figure things out — all while on a device not optimized for the network we’re using points to pretty damn good battery life. It’s safe to say we’re easily getting another 5 hours or so (give or take) over the original HTC One. HTC says that we should expect 40% more battery life over its predecessor." Also consider that the phone is not running two cell antennas for SVDO/SLTE, and you can expect further battery savings over last year's Sprint models.
  2. I ordered mine at 10:15am Pacific, so 15 mins after it went on sale. I had to pay $249 to upgrade, but will call Sprint to fix that soon. It arrives Thursday - to Key West... where I'm on vacation for a bit. The one LTE tower here is too far from downtown, but got about 10Mbit down at the airport.
  3. Yea, Sprint always seems to leave downtown for last. SF, SJ. Even look at downtown Chicago in the loop. Many towers that are not touched yet. I'm following the Omaha, NE market, and these guys went from nothing in Oct to pretty much done today. Sounds like we're still at least 6 months away from proper coverage. Coverage in SF is pathetic, and you can drain your phone in less than 10 hours just carrying it around. SDV/SLTE help drain battery twice as fast.
  4. Looks like there's only the 16GB Model online now. Order form is live!
  5. Last year, did the Google Edition models get announced around same time as the main launch or a few months later? Wondering what the chances are that GE model is sold like Nexus 5 - unlocked and available on multiple carriers.
  6. Was that in North San Jose where things have been "Green" for a while or in south San Jose, land of purple and brown?
  7. Do you think that's true in both north San Jose and south San Jose? Judging at the map, northern half of the market seems done and mature, so eCSFB seems likely to be there, don't you?
  8. San Jose, especially the golden triangle, had pretty good Wimax coverage, so it now has good B41 coverage. In fact, northern SJ could easily be launched right now given their density of towers with B25. SF, on the other hand, is a sad story.
  9. That's typical during upgrades. In Omaha, Nebraska, the period of bad call quality and dropped calls lasted about two weeks. Hang in there...
  10. Hope that rules out of this request don't slow things down further: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/02/feds-ask-telcos-please-stop-letting-workers-that-climb-up-cell-towers-die/
  11. Also, only single-band Wi-Fi. No 5GHz which makes it seem more like a low-end device.
  12. There is one downside to switching to the new plans... The fine print: “Streaming video speeds may be limited to 1 Mbps.” You might get 40Mbit/sec on Spark, but youtube will not look much better.
  13. The NETGEAR® 341U USB Modem is only 19.95 on Sprint's site. It's LTE Tri-Band.
  14. Handoff between 800 and 1900 is harder, but possible. It's handoff between an NV upgraded site 800/1900 and a legacy site that seems to be a problem. If there are enough NV sites, then should be able to find an NV site to switch too, but right now, it'll be a mess. And it's likely to get worse before it gets better if experience in other markets is any indication.
  15. If you go to Sprint.com's tower locator page, you'll see that all peninsula cities got "data and voice upgrades", but PAMPA (Palo Alto / Menlo Park / Atherton) did not. Since that information is public, you could call Sprint and ask them why all communities surrounding Palo Alto get upgrades, but your don't.
  16. Anyone else having a complete outage in North San Jose? I toggled airplane mode on and off, and my phone is getting no service. This isn't looking good either: http://downdetector.com/status/sprint/map/
  17. I believe that iPhones prefer 1900 (if available) over 800. Other phones simply prefer either 800 or 1900 depending on what they're currently / last connected to.
  18. Judging by how long it took other markets to progress, I doubt SF, PAMPA (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton) and Berkeley can just be flipped on. Maybe Robert can comment, but I think it's unlikely many sites would flip from brown (no NV), to green (3G/800/LTE). I'd imagine a minimum of 6 months at the earliest before SF could be announced.
  19. Turn off LTE when you get to SF unless you're hanging out in Union Square area. Too bad than on S3 you need to reboot the phone for that.
  20. I took two speed tests, both outside. The faster one is outside my office and other one is at the Caltrain station in downtown Mountain View. I did them outside, since each building is different, so YMMV. If you look at the map of that area, you'll see that there are towers every 1/3 - 1/2 mile making for pretty solid coverage.
