  1. Not true. Devices on sprint are unlocked after three months whether unpaid or undercontract. On Att a device undercontract will not be unlock unless the contract is fulfilled, so it is easier to get a phone unlocked with installments. As far as resell it doesn't matter at all.

Devices on Sprint haven't been able to be domestically unlocked period until very recently. Even now, the contract must be fulfilled or the installment balance must be paid off before (some select) devices can be unlocked.

  2. Note, these were for 4S/5 unlocks.  Not 5C/5S/6/6+ ones.  People were getting Sprint to internationally unlock their 4S and 5 units and were also somehow getting a domestic unlock on there.  Sprint does do international unlocks on those handsets, there's no "you have to wait until 2/19" for them.

I can confirm! Just popped a T-Mobile SIM into my old iPhone 5 (I had it internationally unlocked last week) and I did get a T-Mobile HSPA+ connection. No LTE though. This is great!

  3. It seems like Sprint's speeds are pretty high too at 10 down and 5 up. However, the other carriers are also really fast. Sprint seems to have done really good in reliability there too so I'd go with speeds pulling them down like you said.

Unless there's some other factor that they're not showing us, IMO Sprint deserved at least #3. Sprint was first in 3 categories while T-Mobile wasn't on top for any of them. Definitely hard to believe.

  4. Lol that's why I don't use the stock keyboard. SwiftKey to the rescue [emoji18][emoji18]

All of the third party keyboards are even worse than stock imo- but that's only because they're barely given any CPU or memory. Does SwiftKey work well for you?

  5. Lol no problem. I mean on the device list it says you can have 99 devices, when am I ever gonna fill those slots? lol. Might as well put them to good use ya know.

Just wondering, do you actually develop or just pay the $99/year for beta access?

  6. Couldn't we pitch in for a developer account for him? Aren't those capable of having 100 users or "beta testers" linked to that account? That might make it legit, unless there's an expiration on how long you app can be in beta without actually moving to iTunes.

Would TestFlight work for distribution, or will Apple check the app for private API's before TestFlight distribution?

    http://9to5mac.com/2015/02/12/apple-testflight-groups/

Apple Testflight has two different distribution modes- Internal Testing and External Testing. Internal testing is limited to 100 devices (I've already registered 46 on my account), and external testing allows you to distribute to 1000 testers, but the app is reviewed before being distributed. Also: This makes it impossible to have a background process that shows the LTE band in the status bar, among other things.

What about a wifi strength app/widget with a nice little Easter egg that only some know about? [emoji12]

That's an extremely easy way to get banned from the App Store permanently. :P

  7. Speaking of Cydia, how's your progress on your beta build? I hope everything is coming along swimmingly. :)

Code-wise it's complete, just having issues packaging it. I haven't created a Cydia package before and it's proving to be a lot more complicated than the App Store's one-click submit. The actual application and the background process work fine, but the Notification Center widget is always terminated immediately after I attempt to start it. I'll get it fixed soon.

  8. This sucks, always on B25 and it is starting to slow down because of the lack of B41.

I was in the DC Market and I saw plenty of B41 but where it's not available, LTE is useless. In downtown Silver Spring, B25 wouldn't even successfully connect, but 3G was fine and pulling 1.5Mbps.

Does Sprint have spectrum for a second B25 carrier in DC? They really need it.

  9. So my iPhone 6 and 6+ that I currently own will be unlocked if I read that correctly?

Seems to be that way. They won't be unlocked until they are 100% yours though, ie contract fulfilled or device balance paid off.

  10. Here's a question since you're an Apple developer. Is the iOS environment that closed off that you can't develop a non-jailbreak version of this? I'd love to get this running on my iPhone, but it is tied to Airwatch and I don't want IT to give me a call :)

The app is currently not dependent on a jailbreak and I could manually register a couple unjailbroken phones to install it on. But a non-jailbreak app would just be limited to showing the data in the app and in the Notification Center. I can't manipulate the lock screen or the status bar on a jailed device.

Do we have anyone that knows how to build a custom carrier bundle, or knows how to modify the stock one to do different things? Since we're all jail breaking/re-jail breaking, I'd like to see if my band switching problem can be resolved with something custom built. Maybe if the thresholds can be changed to switch to band 26 sooner? Let me know; I'd be willing to pay a little bit for one.

This is interesting, I might look into that sometime.

I'm curious about this too. There were mumblings that iOS8 might have opened up the APIs to allow this type of app without a jailbreak. Has this been confirmed, or is the necessary info still only possible with a JB?

    EDIT:

    Gotcha!

The necessary info is available without a jailbreak, but it uses private APIs that have basically been reverse engineered. The app & widget do run without a jailbreak but I wouldn't be able to submit it to the App Store because of the private APIs.

EDIT: I was planning to include a status update with this post but I forgot so here it is:

Getting close to a first beta, just working on showing the current LTE band next to the "LTE" symbol in the status bar. Obviously there'll be more features in the future.

  11. If you need design or usability help with the app, that's what I do for a living - I'd love to help, even if I can't jailbreak due to my company's AirWatch MDM solution.

I'm hoping to keep the UI relatively simple, but I'll be sure to contact you if I run into any issues.

Jailbroken iOS user here. I travel weekly so have opportunity to hit MANY different towers over the course of a week. Let us know when this bad boy hits a repo! :)

I can guarantee that when it does, S4GRU will be the first to hear about it. ;)

  12. The iPhone does support it. With TMO iPhones 6 you can go from wifi to volte seamlessly.

I meant to say Sprint WiFi calling. Sprint's currently not advertising it because they'd have a bunch of iPhone users complaining that it's not available on their phones. I'm sure there'll be a couple commercials about it once an update enables it on the iPhone 6.
