  1. My wife is getting an iPhone 6 soon and going to China in a few months.  Now that iPhone 6 has been out for a while, has anyone tried the Sprint model in China with TD-LTE Band 41?

Also, the iPhone 5s on VZ was unlocked, but Sprint's model was sold locked and needed to be unlocked to be used in China, is that still true for Sprint's iPhone 6?

For your second question, the Sprint iPhone 6 is still sold locked to Sprint, and needs to be unlocked for international use. Domestic use in the United States on carriers other than Sprint in the US is not currently possible (and probably never will be).

  2. Yeah it was speed like schikka mentioned. Because that 3G data is so fast you get those incredible speeds haha. Though it was referring to processor speed not the data speed.

It does have that "4G" 7.2 HSPA though. ;)

EDIT: Actually they didn't start calling it "4G" until the iPhone 4, did they...

EDIT2: Quick Google shows that I was way off, it was the 4S and HSPA 14.4.

  3. How will 8t8r help improve Sprint? Can someone please explain this.

8t8r stands for 8 transmit 8 receive. The main advantage of 8t8r antennas is that the signal is usable closer to the edge of the service area. (There are other advantages, but I'm not sure of them.)

This combined with the wide 20 mhz B41 carriers can provide average speeds around 50Mbps.

  4. Yeah, I am in the Baltimore market. I think most of our band 41 so far is old CLEAR equipment. It would hold onto band 41 when it got it, but a lot more 3G/1x than my Galaxy S5.

I'm pretty sure it's 100% Clearwire conversions. Everywhere I've found B41 has happened to be pretty close to what used to be a WIMAX tower.

Also I've noticed that some B41 sites in/around Baltimore don't work... at all. It's consistent too, the three dead sites are always dead. Pretty annoying.

  5. Ok, but obviously the carrier must have control over what priority your phone chooses bands.. It makes no sense to have b26 as a priority if you pick up other bands and if you have little bandwidth of b26..

Maybe I'm way off but sprint must collaborate with phone makers based on whatever they decide will be best for .... ???

It would make sense if b25 was at full capacity and there's no b41 signal. Then b26 would be used even if there's a good b25 signal.

The network decides what band you will connect to, not the phone.

  6. My mom (a blonde) got her new phone in and called me after she got it activated. She kept claiming she was having a hard time hearing me and I told her to make sure the volume was turned up all the way as it's a new phone and the settings are at a default level. She just messaged me saying she figured out the reason why...To all the blondes who ordered a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and are having it delivered to your house, don't forget to take off the plastic!  :rasp::lol:

When I got my phone on the 19th, I purposely left the plastic on until I received my case and it took me three days to realize why the call volume was so low. Needless to say, I felt pretty dumb for about an hour after that.

  8. Thanks and hopefully the 2-4 week timeline isn't true and it's just Sprint attempting to save themselves from angry hordes of people yelling at CS on the phone and people attempting to burn down Sprint stores…

He was told mid-October for his phone, this is quite a bit earlier. :)
  9. Just wondering but will Sprint now send you a tracking number when they ship your phone or like during the pre order madness the phone will magically appear one day? Even though I ordered this Sunday afternoon I would like to know if I should expect a tracking number or let the Apple gods decide when I get my phone.

My friend ordered a couple days before launch, and he received a tracking number yesterday, and it's expected to arrive tomorrow (UPS 2-Day Air). So you'll probably get a tracking number when it ships.

  10. Has anyone actually confirmed that the Sprint iPhone 6/6+ is locked domestically yet? There's many reports out there that the TMobile unlocked iPhone 6 has the CDMA radios activated and if you plug in an active VZW sim it will work; Without digging back a few pages, I recall Nahum plugged his TMobile data only SIM with no success, but I'm just curious if anybody has tried putting an already active (with a phone & data plan) TMobile, AT&T or VZW SIM into a Sprint phone yet? If it works then the resale of the Sprint model would increase significantly.

Conversely, has anybody tried to plug a Sprint SIM into another carriers model? I'd be very curious to if another carriers phone is "whitelisted" on Sprint's database and if so to see if the band 41 radios are actually active or not...

Unfortunately it's locked domestically. This was an active prepaid T-Mobile SIM inserted in a Sprint 6+.

Tmo SIM in Sprint 6+ is a no go. Same error as on the 5 and 5s.

  11. Sensorly has never been able to map coverage with the iPhone. Speedtests they would be able to based on GPS being a public accessible api. Hopefully cellular radio information would be more accessible in the future for Sensorly. It would be awesome if we could map like that.

I'm not sure why mapping isn't supported, the CoreTelephony API in iOS 7 gives access to the carrier name, signal strength (though it's in "bars" rather than RSRP) and access to the type of data connection (1X, EVDO, LTE). It wouldn't be a perfect solution, but still better than nothing.
