Couldn't tell, but one of the sites was reported as an 8T8R by CellularInfo so possibly WA98XC300.

Ow. LTE is essentially dead here at the Cherry Blossom festival. I just had a speed test fail to initialize... on band 41. That's a first. 2nd carrier is really necessary here. 3G is great though, almost 2mbps down. Probably because the vast majority of people here are on LTE.

Ran into an interesting case in Indy. The GCI ends in 03 but it is 2nd carrier according to the eng. screen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Samsung markets use 00, 01, and 02 for the 1st carrier and 03, 04, and 05 for the second carrier. Because other vendors use 01, 02, and 03 for 1st carrier, SignalCheck doesn't show 2nd carrier when the GCI ends in 03.

I saw on Reddit last night that there was a way to enable Sprint wifi calling on pre 8.3 devices. Didn't read into it much since I'm not jailbroken at the moment but it does appear to be possible. (And I'm not even 100% positive it required a JB)

Just did it, Settings is showing that I'm on Sprint 19.1, but trying to enable Wifi calling gives me a "contact your carrier" message. I don't think the code to support Sprint's WiFi calling is in iOS 8.2.

T-Mobile's median download speed is not reported anywhere on that page, yet he still gave a value for it.

Seems like he confused it with the median upload speed. However he was correct in saying that Sprint is the fastest in Denver.

Not sure where you're pulling those numbers from, but if you look at the speed index award, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint are all tied. They are statistically too close to determine a clear winner.

 

From the report:

 

Sprint recorded the fastest median download speed at 10.7 Mbps, while T-Mobile recorded the fastest median upload speed at 7.9 Mbps.

What were/is the value? I think I've looked in there before with iFile, and recall the value being something other than a clear-cut "25, 26, 41." That value shouldn't matter, though, as it's probably similar to the LTE band preference on an android; it only relates to the initial scan.

Checked again. I actually have 15.1, 17.1, and 19.1, no 18.1.

 

The values were:

15.1 - 50331648

17.1 - 50331674

19.1 - 50331674

 

15.1 was distributed with iOS 7.0 and the 5s- no B41. That explains the change. Nothing to see here then.

I downloaded the last couple carrier bundles from an Apple manifest file. The value for "LTE Band Pref" in the carrier.pri file is unchanged from Sprint 18.1 to 19.1. It DID change from 17.1 to 18.1 though. Not sure what to think of that.

It's not the first time Apple has broken one of my projects. Back when Siri first came out, me and a couple other guys decided to port Siri to older devices like the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4. Others had done it, but they were distributing the Siri files themselves- illegal. So we devised a system that made the device download the Siri files from the iOS 5.0.1 OTA update. After we got everything working, Apple randomly took down that OTA and put it back up a couple hours later with some permissions changed, completely breaking our port. It was such a small change, almost a tiny little "ha screw you guys" from Apple. We fixed it within a week though. Hopefully this is a small change too. Just gotta find it.

 

I googled that and nothing even came up. Not sure how you came across that method but I will not update iOS now. I love your app!

That method wasn't my discovery, if you google a bit more you'd probably find it. I've contacted the guy that originally found it to see if he has an alternative but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to find this one myself.

Out of curiosity, what did they change that broke the app?

There was a private method from the CoreTelephony framework I was using, "CTServerConnectionCellMonitorCopyCellInfo()" to be exact.

It's no longer there, probably removed or renamed.

Does Wi-Fi Calling Support Messaging (SMS & MMS)?

For Android devices, messaging is supported in Wi-Fi Calling mode even if there is not any coverage from the Nationwide Sprint Network.

For iOS devices, messaging is still handled by the Nationwide Sprint Network. If you do not have coverage then messaging services are not supported. This functionality is expected to be supported over Wi-Fi in the future. iMessage on iOS is supported over Wi-Fi. 

 

Well that killed it for me. I was considering updating for the battery improvements that WiFi calling is supposed to bring, but if the phone is still connected to 1x, it's pointless. 

Unfortunately I won't be able to find a new method to get the information until a jailbreak is available.

Maybe we'll get lucky and there'll be a jailbreak Soon[emoji769].

I'm noticing that after having the notification shade down for like 10-20 seconds, CellularInfo goes blank. Anyone else have this problem?

That's what happens when iOS decides that it's using too much memory. I'm not sure what I can do about that, maybe try increasing the update time to 2 or 3 seconds? Mine is on 3 and I don't have that issue.

Any way to get the UARFCN and Num Tx antennas on the widget? Or maybe a way to have the user select which 5 of (whatever) fields to be displayed? That would be awesome.

Num Tx Antennas is nowhere to be found. I have no idea why. It's the only item from the Serving Cell Info screen that I can't find.

I like that second idea. I'll definitely do that.

I'll update my 5 to the beta and see what I can do. I might not be able to do it until 8.3 is jailbroken though.

 

GCI's are 8 characters correct? I thought I had read that it went something like this: XXX_XXX_XX. First set of XXX is market ID. Second set of XXX is tower identifier. Third XX is sector. Is that correct?

 

Reason I ask is that on at least a few towers here - I am seeing different tower identifiers for B41 compared to B25/B26.

 

My area is rural enough that I can see the full breadth of connection from B41 to B25 to B26 to 3G to 1x. Not so concerned about 3g and 1x, but the LTE GCI discrepancies are confusing the **** out of me.

I've noticed the same thing. I'm not sure how it works, but I do know that the ID shown is the one reported by the OS. Hopefully someone else has more info on that.

I took it as a good sign. I've been working on it when I can. Adding support for HSPA and WiFi at the moment. WiFi info might need a jailbreak though. Speaking of jailbreak, those features are on hold because I was forced to restore my jailbroken iPhone 5. Sorry

that's the tower I was referring to as well, but yea, mines jumps right onto b41 and stays there I'll drop down to b25 for maybe a second but then it goes back to 41,now I'm just assuming from your sig you have an iPhone, I don't know if the band priority is different for the iPhones compared to the Android phones, otherwise I would say change your band priority and see if it still only connects to b25

I don't think it's a phone issue, I connected to it last week and shut my Tmo friend up with this

Yep, Baltimore market, near the Baltimore national pike where Lowes is, I always could connect to b41 but my Nexus 6 gets the best connections than any phone I've ever had. Even out in Columbia I'm hitting b41 but it's sprint branded, definitely better speeds on the clearwire towers

I was referring to that same exact site, sitting in the Safeway parking lot. Couldn't get it to connect to anything but B25.

I've found that most of the Columbia sites are overloaded. Yesterday, I was at the mall there and was getting these speeds from 4pm all the way until closing at 9.

Is that in the Baltimore market? If so, it might just be a cluster of sites that are down. My phone refused to connect to a known clear b41 site even though I was in a parking lot 500 yards from it.
