  1. Did some Sensorly mapping on my way to Baldwin City, KS from KC. The areas circled in red are the ones that I added where there previously wasn't any:
  2. I arrived in Kansas City last night. I'm here for training for work for 2 weeks. I've done some pretty good testing of the LTE around town. Near the hotel I'm staying at in Independence, MO, the download speeds are a bit slow, 3-7 Mbps. Elsewhere, seems pretty good with consistent 8-12 Mbps download speeds. The upload speeds are about 7 Mbps consistently as well. What a difference it really makes when most towers are upgraded to LTE! The difference between my trip to Atlanta and here is like night and day. Not once have I dropped back to 3G since I arrived, even in elevators and inside buildings. I'm happy to say that I feel confident now that I've been able to experience a true "full coverage" 4G LTE network from Sprint that it'll be awesome once they cover the entire footprint with it. I also picked up the Galaxy Note II tonight as well, so I'm tinkering with it.
  3. Just went out and picked up the Galaxy Note II! I LOVE it! The battery is supposed to be really good, and I'm looking forward to that. The Photon Q's battery is very subpar. I'm kinda disappointed in it.
  4. Got it! However, I may not get charged one, because of the account we have. (No idea what makes it special), but when I got my Photon Q, they said that to me and I wasn't charged.
  5. Oh, one more thing... Will there be an activation fee?
  6. Ok, good to know! Thanks guys for the fast response!
  7. Awesome! I may just go to the Sprint Store and do this then. Also, If I decide to return it within the 2 week window (highly unlikely), would the discount re-appear on his line?
  8. I've got a question that I've been thinking about for a bit now. I'm interested in getting a Samsung Galaxy Note II to mess around with, but I used my discount on my line back in August when the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE came out. We have 5 devices on our account, 2 that are eligible for a 2-year agreement discount. One is a basic phone, and the other is an EVO 4G. If I were to agree to another 2 years on the EVO 4G line (my dad's phone that he just got from my mom, was her old one, so he'll never upgrade), would it be possible to buy it with the 2 year agreement on his line, and then activate it on mine? Thanks in advance!
  9. If you are at home and you have a good Wi-Fi connection, then you most certianly should offload data onto it. There is no need to congest the mobile network with unnecessary connections that could be used otherwise. No if, ands or buts about it!.......... There really isn't a debate here to be honest. You most definitely shouldn't be using the network for your main ISP unless there isn't any other options, and in an approved way, such as mobile hotspots or tethering through your phone with a TETHERING PLAN! Sorry if I seem blunt here, but unauthorized tethering just makes for a worse experience for others....
  10. I was at South Park the day after Thanksgiving and got quite the opposite. No LTE at all around there.
  11. I did lots of LTE scouting the past two days in the Charlotte area. Sadly, only picked up LTE 2 times. Once for about 30 seconds near Providence Rd and Fairview Rd (slight blip on Sensorly if you look), and for about a minute at the I-77/I-85 interchange. That was going from Waxhaw to South Park Mall, and then to Northlake Mall on Black Friday. Went almost through Uptown as well, but zilch there for LTE. On the way back from Northlake mall, I went to Carolina Place Mall area in Pineville. Nothing there either, or on I-485 near Ballantyne where all the Sensorly LTE patches are. I was really disappointed by the lack of LTE coverage. I would expect by now they would be a bit further along.
  12. I just purchased an iPad Mini (WiFi+4G) for my brother for Christmas. I have a Xyboard for myself with a 4GB Share Everything plan. We're going to share the data (2GB/person) for only $50/mo. It's base $30/mo for the 4GB plan, and $10/tablet added on with Verizon. Not too bad if you are asking me! Definitely choose the cellular model, because you don't have to have service. At least it is there and you could just add it later.
  13. One problem I noticed with the friends Airave I installed last month.... If your area has eHRPD active on the macro network, then it has a hell of a time switching to the Airave from the macro network because of the different network type. It wants to hold on to the weak eHRPD signal instead of switching to the 5 bar EvDo Airave. This is an issue that will need correcting very soon...as most of Sprint's network is now eHRPD.
  14. Pretty much the entire state of SC is eHRPD now (who knows, maybe the whole SE US now). Actually, I had it all the way from Columbia, SC up to Chesapeake, VA when I went a few weeks ago for a meeting for work.
  15. Yeah, I have noticed that the battery seems to discharge a lot faster than it used to before the update. Especially if I'm not using the phone for most of the day. While at work, with minimal usage (maybe 15 mins total), by the time I get home 8 hours later, it's like 35%. Used to be around 60% or so the same usage. I hope the next update fixes the icon issue, and the battery life (if this is even an issue related to the update).
  16. Does the 4G go away like 3G does when on a call? Just curious. Not that it's an issue, since data still works regardless if the icon is there or not. It's just a minor nuisance.
  17. I just checked. No new update. So, your 3G icon doesn't disappear when making a call?
  18. As of last week, I haven't had any foreign people taking my calls. Every one so far has been (or at least sounded) american.
  19. Will do! Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.
  20. Yeah, I'll probably just hang tight until an official update. I mean it's not really bad, just slight quirks that are annoying. I'll just deal with it until then. Hopefully not too long, since they must have something in the works releasing this update.
  21. Well isn't that peachy... My phone has been slightly buggy since the update, being sluggish and slow at times. Other than the 3G icon disappearing when making a call and not coming back until you cycle Airplane mode or lose signal and it reconnects, there isn't too much of a difference. I wonder if there is any way I can revert back...
  22. Slight update... Speeds are blazing fast now, just had a 2.3 Mbps DL speed. This is usually not the case on a Friday evening when everyone is out and about congesting the network. Other than that, nothing really out of the ordinary. I'm seeing more tower work going on around Columbia, at least 3 I know of right now that are currently getting worked on. Not sure if it's for Sprint or not though.
  23. Well, signal came back up on Halloween afternoon around 4 pm. Nothing really new, just slower speeds than it was before it went down. Was getting 1.5-2.3 Mbps consistently all day, but since service was restored, it has been averaging 0.15-0.60 Mbps.
  24. No, my phone is completely stock, not rooted. Only thing I changed was the PRL, to 56006 to get 3G while roaming.
  25. Motorola just released a software update for the Photon Q last night. I updated, and everything seemed fine. I noticed today that when making a call, the 3G icon disappears! It's like a phone without SVDO, but the data still works. The 3G icon doesn't stay on like it did before the update. The funny thing is, it won't come back after you hang up either, unless you toggle airplane mode, or you lose signal and it reconnects. I guess Motorola overlooked this while testing the upate. Hope it gets fixed with the next release. Anyone else that has updated having this issue? It's SW version 77.8.10.XT897.Sprint.en.US Note in the screenshot below, that the 3G icon is not there, but "Mobile network state" is "Connected".
