Columbia has been awful with 3G speeds up until the last month or so. Seems as if the band aid fixes will make the wait a bit easier until NV gets here. I've been consistently getting speeds in the 1-2 Mbps range for downloads, and around 1 Mbps uploads. Was getting 0.01-0.10 Mbps DL a lot before. I'll probably be moved to Charlotte, NC (next May) well before Sprint starts in Cola Town. Here is a Speedtest done just a few minutes ago...

So if understand this correctly, you cannot modify your PRL to get EvDo roaming if you have an LTE phone at this time?

I just realized tonight that you can be on a call and still use 3G to access the internet. I guess this has been around for a bit (SVDO), but this is the first device that I've had that has this capability. I recieved an email while on a call, and I was wondering how in the heck that happened, lol. I noticed that the 3G icon was there (because it usually disappears when making a call) and I went to Facebook. Lo and behold it loaded! I was thrilled to say the least. Now GSM doesn't have that advantage any more over CDMA!

That wouldn't explain why I get EvDo on US Cellular though, and in markets where my original Photon only got 1x.

No, nothing special about the plan that I have. It's an everything data share 1500 plan with 5 lines.

That may be the case. My PRL, not changed or modified in any way, is 55006. On my drive to work, I go through a few roaming areas, particularly on Verizon and US Cellular. Both have given me EvDo, and download speeds up to 2.5 Mbps.

I too, am experiencing this issue. Hopefully they do come out with an OTA update soon!

Picked up my Photon Q on Sunday. I am very impressed with the quality and connectivity with this phone! Not only do you get EVDO Roaming by default, but suddenly Sprint's 3G seems better than Verizon in most places now! I don't know how this is possible, but in places where I've gotten 0.05 to 0.15 MPBS download rates, I suddenly am getting 1.5 MBPS or higher. Upload speeds are in the low 1's as well, which just blows my mind. Mind you, this is in South Carolina, where the Sprint network has really been lacking lately. Couldn't be Network Vision, because my old Photon wasn't getting these speeds on the very same day. Anybody have any ideas, or other Photon Q users out there experiencing the same? Please share!

Oh, for the record, I have had a 4G connection while roaming. This was in Moultrie, GA (listed above). I was roaming on Verizon while being connected to WiMax at the same time! It can be done, but for other devices, I can't say the same. Here's a picture I took that day while traveling through Moultrie:

Really wanted to get a tablet from Sprint, but given the current state of the network, and subpar tablets, most lacking even 3G (just had Wi-Fi), I went with Verizon. The 2GB data limit for the $30 plan sucks, but what are you going to do. I mainly bought the tablet for work, since I use a laptop all the time. It's a lot easier to lug around than a laptop. The 4G LTE is INSANE! 41 Mbps download and 14 Mpbs upload!!! Hope Sprint's LTE will be that fast.

It will choose Sprint first, then if you have to roam (no Sprint service available), it will search for Alltel EVDO, then Verizon EVDO. So no worries about exceeding 350 MB of roaming data, because it isn't always on Verizon. That would be the 00001 PRL, which shows your phone is on the Sprint network, but it is actually on Verizon. (Doesn't show the roam indicator).

You have to put the phone in modem mode to get it to recognize it though. On the Epic 4G, it's dialer code ##8778#, and then you change the USB mode to Modem from PDA. Just make sure when you are done to change it back to PDA if you want to access your files from the SD card when hooking it up to the computer.

It then said it was updating the PRL. I immediately pulled the battery, because I modified my PRL with the 11115 one, so I can get 3G while roaming. Fortunately, it didn't update!

Here goes: Thomasville, GA tower: 8 Mbps download, 1.5 Mbps upload Albany, GA tower: Averaged between 4 and 6 Mbps download, and 1 Mbps upload. Moultrie, GA tower: Averaged between 6 and 8 Mpbs download, 1.5 to 2 Mbps upload. Valdosta, GA tower: Working, but don't remember the speeds. Americus, GA tower: Working, 9 Mpbs download, 1.5 Mpbs upload. Tifton, GA tower: Working, between 4 and 6 Mpbs down, 1 up. Oh, and I forgot Birmingham, AL and Montgomery, AL. I was through there as well on my last job, and both Birmingham and Montgomery had some 4G coverage. Don't quite remember the speeds, but I know it was working.

Speeds as follows: Hartsville: Usually pull around 9 Mbps down, 1.5 Mbps up Florence: Usually pull around 5 Mbps down, 1 Mbps up. The Hartsville tower has an unusually strong signal. I can drive 6 miles to the east and still get a fair signal! Works out good for me, because I work out on the railroad there, and getting a 4G signal in the middle of nowhere is nice.
