  1. NWI is still missing a lot of 4G/LTE accepted sites. There are mostly 3G/800 which leads to my question that I am sure someone can answer. We know that a site won't be 4G accepted until there is upgraded backhaul, but can a site be 3G/800 accepted with legacy backhaul?
  2. I was in an rural area last week and I would hear the notifications on getting LTE and 800, but wished I was notified when I lost those as well so I am glad to see Optional alert when LTE signal is loston http://www.bluelinepc.com/signalcheck/to-do-list/ - Can the lost of 800 be added to that future option? - What about a notification going to/from roaming? I would set in one chair in our cabin and would see my phone go between Sprint 1xRTT (eHRPD and once or twice LTE) and 800 and then roam to Verizon. I was about midway between two Sprint 3G/LTE upgraded towers (~8 miles apart) and 10+ miles from a 3G/800/LTE accepted tower.
  3. Both reports bring back memories of Nextels on the Michigan side of the lake hooking up with Wisconsin towers.
  4. So when are you going to take the S4GRU corporate jet to the TD-LTE cities and report your findings?
  5. SMR = Simon Bolivar (SMR) Colombia - http://www.world-airport-codes.com/colombia/simon-bolivar-6649.html Not finding an AWS....but why would a Sprint user care about that airport? (Time for me to go to bed....getting a little slap happy.)
  6. Not that I think my local airport will be visited by any S4GRU users anytime soon, but KalamaAZOo (where do you think I got my screen name from?) has had LTE for a couple of months. Of the three towers that will cover it, two have LTE live. I mapped the LTE coverage with Sensorly two months ago and per Sensorly's bar color it has 3 bars in front of the terminal. I didn't have to go inside the terminal as I was dropping off and picking up so I can't speak of the inside coverage.
  7. Sprint made Slashdot today with a story titled "Sprint May Have Unlimited Data Plans, But Not Unlimited Customers" I haven't read most of the posts, but several sound like they are sprint.com forum posters as well. There is one mention of our beloved s4gru.com.
  8. I tried to do some Sensorly mapping of this tower the other day and had one heck of a time getting 4G and then staying connected to it. I was at the business park just north of I-94 and would get a few data points and then drop back to 3G. Then cycle airplane mode and get 4G back for a few points. So I headed via the access road to Lowes and lost 4G in the Lowes parking lot! (Remember the tower is on the back side of the store...so we are talking...maybe 200 yards.) Cycled again, got 4G. Then as I headed west on Kilgore lost it after the hill west of Hackett. I could have been connecting to one of the two LTE towers to the east, but I doubt it. (I couldn't get 4G in this area (south of Kilgore on Westnedge) until this tower got accepted. Seems to me something isn't right with that tower. I would hope that it would cover more than ~1/4 mile considering the closest towers are 1 to 2 miles away.
  9. You get your downloads directly from the NSA. Why take the time and bandwidth to go get the content directly from the source if you can just grab it from the NSA's all knowing system. And by getting it from the NSA you help save them some storage as they don't have to de-duplicate the information since they already have it.
  10. Computerworld post..... https://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9240802/Sprint_outage_affects_customers_in_some_parts_of_U.S._for_several_hours_ Interesting how two data points in the article were from outages.org and downdetector.com that I mentioned in posts to this thread.....
  11. Just tried one of my numbers (269-998-xxxx) a few minutes ago from a land-line and it rang through just fine.
  12. Didn't know about this site..... http://downdetector.com/status/sprint/map I was able to make an ex-Nextel/current-Sprint to ex-Nextel/current-Sprint voice call, but calling either number (269-998-xxxx) from a landland (not sure of the provider) still gives silence.
  13. I just tried calling two on my numbers from my desk phone that were Nextel till Black Friday of last year when I got my $0.99 G3 at Sam's Club and moved to Sprint. I had dial tone, dialed....and crickets.....no message, no ring, no nothing. And were are in southwest Michigan (269-998-xxxx) and I don't think we are considered the "east coast" in most people's eye.
  14. Here is a post to the outages mailing list: https://puck.nether.net/pipermail/outages/2013-July/005765.html
  15. I think I have noticed a half-dozen or so. Not sure how many are following the East Michigan thread though. I haven't seen much activity, but then I haven't been out as much the last few weeks.
  16. I am not tower expert, but.... the flag pole style towers seem to have 1 to 3 panel levels depending on height. Think of a three rack normal tower where A is the top most rack, B middle, C lowest. Each level could be used the same or different provider. So in the case of the flag pole at Centre/Oakland, I think it can't be "upgraded" because all of the levels are in use. While the tower at Centre/12th, I think, just has Sprint on it so their should be room to add the NV panels to one of the open levels on the tower. Or, I wonder if these type of towers have the legacy panels removed and the NV panels installed at once - reusing the level. Doing it that way would cause the tower to be completly down (no legacy service) and then you have the NV/legacy 3G integration issue when it is time to come up. Early last month, AT&T was added to the flag pole tower on the northwest side of WMU's campus. Prior to that it was solely a MetroPCS tower. The crain was at the tower for 3 days and then it took the cable guys several more days to get all wired up.
  17. Look what just made the front page of the Gazette today.....http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2013/07/portage_the_home_of_first_mono.html
  18. Coming from the north? If so, that sounds promising as the AT&T Portage phone switch is at Portage/Zylman which is where I would think that they would source their fiber from. (Which reminds me...I need to talk to my friend at Charter and see if they are doing any backhaul work for Sprint in the area.) Now that you are a sponsor , take a look at Network Vision Site Map - Michigan Markets and NV Sites Complete topics. Cork/Sprinkle is covered by the tower behind BK and Dennys. The coverage for that tower heading south in Sprinkle is pretty far as all of the purple on Sensorly is from that tower. Heading west/north/east you have other towers in play. We should continue this over in the Network Vision Site Map - Michigan Markets so we can talk with site IDs.
  19. I haven't been down that area of Portage Rd in a couple of weeks. What side of the road? Can you tell from what direction the fiber is coming from? If this is Sprint related work, become a sponsor and you can see what tower they might be heading towards.
  20. That is the tower my in-laws live by. Too bad they are only 8 months into their iPhone 4s' contracts. As you can see in the sponsor section, this (S Westnedge behind Lowes) tower is really the first "Portage" tower. There are six more to go with two additional ones on the western/north-western edge for Portage. Kalamazoo/Oshtemo/Comstock have about double that left.
  21. Yup, went live last week. This is one of the shortest towers around (rack is below the tree tops) so the coverage of this tower is smaller than others in town. It seems they are kind of moving east to west in greater Kalamazoo....so I am hoping the towers I am around most get done soon, but I keep checking for activity...and not seeing it.
  22. You didn't get his Group Talk announcement? ..... Oh, wait, can't do that anymore....well, at least not with Nextel.
  23. I was mapping Saturday night (22:15-23:15 US Eastern Daylight -0400) and I was seeing 4G/LTE updates in a matter of 3-5 minutes. I was then mapping earlier today (09:00-10:00) and the 3G was not as fast as Saturday night. I don't think that I was able to get the updates to show on my phone till lunch time. I also did some 4G/LTE and it seemed like Saturday night - got home, did some zoom-in/zoom-out and the new data points were there. I then was checking on the web and could not get the updates to show up which agrees with the CDN cache time above.
  24. How about some Nextel phones? I have a pair of i880s and a i670 and others that I would have to pull out a box with chargers and all. The irony of bidding on network shutdown countdown clock and receiving phones that work on the shutdown network if you win.....priceless.
