  1. Since you mentioned the voice enhancement button - I tried it. I found out that during a crackling call, if I enabled "voice enhancement", the crackling stopped. It appeared to me that the volume was lower as well. When I disabled "voice enhancement", the crackling started again. It doesn't seem logical that the volume would be lower with "voice enhancement" enabled, but I do think it was. I'd have to check some white noise with a decibel level meter. At this point it appeared in my test that enabling "voice enhancement", stopped the annoying crackling phenomenon. Hmmmmm?
  2. Boy, I wish I knew how to root a device. It would make the G2 so much better with enhancements like that. The earpiece speaker sounds a little fragile to me though. I don't know if it could take much more volume without distorting.
  3. You are absolutely correct. Every time you charge a battery a chemical reaction takes place and there is only so much reagent! When it is used up - you're done. Force of habit I guess? i never even bothered to research and see what type of battery was in the G2.
  4. Wow, your speed is outstanding! I'm lucky when I get low 20's. They are still working on the tower nearest to me. Work is supposed to be completed by Dec 2. Hopefully that means an increase in speed or the addition of 800 MHz.
  5. I use a brightness APP called YAAB. I like my screen really bright so I set YAAB manual brightness to 100%, then adjusted the minimum and maximum accordingly. I'd say my minimum setting is at least 80% and the max is 100%. I spend a lot of time in the sunlight with my G2. The YAAB app is amazing. The native brightness adjustment on the G2 sucks!
  6. I really hope LG does something about that crackling nonsense as well. It's really irritation. I don't get it on every call though. It's strange...
  7. I'm really not doing anything special. The screen-on time is literally over 2 to 3 hours each day, plus I'm doing all kinds of speed tests, since I'm like a little kid in a candy store with the Tri Band LTE working now. This battery just doesn't want to discharge rapidly! It even lasts through movies on Netflix. The only downside to the G2 so far is my crackling phone calls.
  8. I get 2 days battery use. I actually have to let the screen on at the end of the second day just to force-discharge the battery in order to charge it up again and get it ready for the next day. Battery life is amazing as is the recharge rate.
  9. This is great news. Hope it comes to fruition!
  10. It sounds like the earpiece speaker is breaking up because it's too loud in volume, or the amplifier is clipping. The volume is not too loud though, but that's what it sounds like. It's terrible. The Verizon LG G2 is plagued with this same phenomenon.
  11. Well, I guess I need to reduce my 99% good call (no crackle) figure. I just received another crackling call. It's really annoying. There must be some sort of issue for some of the G2 handsets. I hope this issue gets taken care of with a firmware update. It's not every single call for me though. Many of mine are from automated systems, but these same systems sound good on other phones. Hmmmmm?
  12. I agree with you both. I'm finding that today, it is kind of a crapshoot buying a new handset. Take for instance my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3. That particular device would receive 1X or "no service" inside the building where I work. My Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic gets a low LTE signal in the same place. At least that handset did not look that good on the FCC docs. The same phone that was a Sprint version did much better in weak signal areas even being 1900 MHz reception. I guess there isn't a guaranteed way to tell before you try them - but then it could be a $35 restocking fee...
  13. OH BOY, Am I missing Snap & Pop!
  14. I know this might sound like a stupid question, but do you have mobile data enabled? I saw you had WiFi off, but is there a separate setting somewhere to turn mobile data on and off? My signal in my house is about -105 dBm to -107 dBm at times and I get fairly good DL and UL speeds.
  15. That's the exact sort of facts I wanted to know. Thank You! If RF performance isn't that great, I wouldn't even consider owning one. It makes a big difference to me how well a device works at the cell edge, fringe areas... How well can you hear a conversation, can you see the screen well in sunlight... and so on.
  16. Yes, ... and thanks to the staff for the education I/we am getting here! My compliments! The material on this site is outstanding and very well done. A teaser article would be nice. I'd rather gather information here from S4GRU than read it somewhere else. The staff here are experts and I trust what I read and learn. I'd like to know about the RF performance phones have so I can make an educated purchase decision when it comes time. Many sites dwell on the "gee whiz" stuff and forget that utmost and foremost, the device is a phone and has to perform as such. Things I personally find important are: Radio/Antenna performance, Sound Quality and lastly a brief feature overview. Just my $0.02
  17. It would be awesome to read an article on the HTC One Max.
  18. My G2 only does this on some numbers - one being my VOIP voicemail. If called from any other phone the sound quality is fine. It almost sounds like the speaker is turned up too loud causing sine wave clipping and distortion - but it's not. It happens at all volumes. It does crackle though... Hopefully this will be fixed with an update. 99% of my calls do not have this issue.
  19. That's very interesting. Now I'm curious as to how the original signal limits are derived. I would hope through testing and measurement; finding the best performance and thresholds
  20. So, does the N5 antenna physically have more surface area than the G2 - is that why it is superior in performance? Or, is the antenna in the N5 just electronically tuned or coupled better to the radio (SWR and all that sort of thing)? I wouldn't mind an old style pull up aerial, if it meant better performance! Your mention of a firmware update to "tweak", kind of hints at electronic tuning...
  21. Does the N5 have a better antenna/more sensitive radio?
  22. This site is a wealth of information. Thank You! I learn so much here each and every day.
