I saw a screenshot earlier of SCP where WiFi showed the channel number and bandwidth. Is that the beta version? Or is the info only available on some devices.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Its in beta right now and works very well, now I know when I am in the slow or fast lane when on public WiFi thanks to AJ for mentioning to add it to SignalCheck Pro and Mike for integrating within his app.

Any idea what's been causing this? The last week or so signal check has been at the top of my battery use almost every day.

Have you checked too see if you have the site logging feature enabled within the app? If so its been logging every site you've connected to for the past week...just a thought.

Haha! Just me overhyping what is really just the latest "alpha" version as I call it on the website changelog. Unfortunately, I haven't had any time at all in the past 2 weeks to get much app work in so I can wrap it up for testing, fairly certain this will be stable enough for public release. I haven't abandoned you guys, I promise..
-Mike
I know you haven't abandoned your S4GRU/SignalCheck family Mike, in a years time with over 10,000+ downloads on the Play Store, your app has become a valuable tool for us wireless geeks and to LTE hunt, not only for Sprint but for the other wireless providers as well. I believe I speak for the entire S4GRU family when I say I applaud your dedication to your app and enjoy every update that comes along with it.

Yeah something with the formatting or something I don't know either way 4.4.2 is close.
Any new news on when we can expect the 4.4.2 update? Read on a website that the 1GB RAM version of the S3 won't see the KitKat upgrade.
-
Of course, I'm running the elite version that nobody else has yet, so that could be why.
-Mike
Mike, whats this elite version you speak of?
Need this ASAP

Do they consider Bristol, VA in the Kingsport/Bristol, TN as officially launched? Or will they add Bristol, VA to Johnson City, TN when Sprint officially announces Johnson City? Not one Sprint site in Bristol, VA has live LTE yet.

Yes Sir!

Sprint/Nextel Corporation WIP licenses will show up on the FCC and it looks as if they own but the tower, but they don't. Its either SBA Towers, Crown Castle, American Towers, etc that own them and lease the sites to a wireless operator. I believe Verizon still owns towers but I'm not 100% sure...

Thanks for the answers. So is there a preferred ratio between SNR and Ec/lo?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
For CDMA Ec/Io is the most important because interference is much stronger. For CDMA networks interference is like noise, so consider the SNR and the Ec/Io pretty much the same thing.
-
Here's another question. What Is your SNR supposed to be(approximately). Over the past two days my Ec/lo has been 15-25 (up an average of 10) but my SNR has been 1-2(down from 3-5). These are both from ehrpd/evdo.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Typical CDMA EV-DO SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) values range from 3 dB to 9 dB.

This is way overdue, abusers that rather say on the LTE network instead of using there home WiFi when available.

And for those of you who owe on your taxes, I'm sorry.
Robert
Robert, we need a dislike button...unfortunately owning my own small business comes with owing taxes, even after all the write offs.
-
wouldn't that depend on what type of network you are on?
Good question, I don't know, AJ could probably answer that for you.

I believe around 7000-10000ft in altitude is when cell phones start losing signal as far as cellular goes.
As far as flight 370 mystery goes, (1) the aircraft crashed into the ocean (2) it was hijacked and flown by a professional someone who knows how to pilot a commercial aircraft below radar...preferably someone with some type of military piloting.
If number two is what happened where did it go? Whats it going to be used for, a weapon? Only time will tell...

That's what I assumed, thanks for taking the time to answer, its just really odd seeing my phone hop between four sites usually every 10-15 seconds. I would think one of the sites would be better than the others, and it'd park itself for a bit at least.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
One night if your up late take a look at SignalCheck and see if your phone hands off to those sites. Late at night your phone is more likely to stay on one site due to the sites not being as loaded as they are during the daytime hours. Also in SignalCheck the Ec/Io is also a very important, each sector of a site transmits power. As the load increases the Ec/Io gets worse, -4 to -8dB is about the normal level. The closer to -1dB the Ec/Io gets the more likely you are to have dropped calls.
-
So my actual question is: is my phone actually switching signals like SignalCheck is reporting, or is it a bug/quirk?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
No that isn't a bug your phone is handing off to another site, your phone is constantly looking for a better signal. While your phone is handing off the 1x voice signal to another site the 3G EVDO could stay parked on a totally different site. I have even seen my phone grab a different sector of the same site instead of handing off to a different site while not facing the sector its connected to.

I did my own Sprint network test this past weekend while at Bristol Motor Speedway (Food City 500) which brought in around 102,000 fans estimated.
I tested Sprint's post-Network Vision network in different areas at the track and in and around the camping grounds using my Samsung Galaxy S3, I took two speed tests and did three test calls in each location. I utilized SignalCheck Pro to verify that I was using different sites and not just one site. *Note* Sprint has two sites in this location one atop a hill adjacent to the track, the other is located in turn three atop of the backstretch suite. I'm not posting site IDs due to this thread being public.
- The average download speed was around 6.82Mbps with a upload of 2.65Mbps with a latency of 85ms on 1900 PCS LTE.
- Out of the 15 test calls performed none of them dropped, it did however take a few extra seconds for the call to connect on one of the sites. This was also on Sprint's 1x RTT 1900 PCS not 800 SMR.
Sprint didn't break any speed test records down there, but the point here is that Sprint network was consistent and reliable. I was quite happy and Sprint held up to my expectations. Now on with Network Vision!
Addition: The average 1x RTT RSSI was -81dBm while the average LTE RSRP was -90dBm.
For those that are curious about 3G EVDO I did switch my phone into CDMA/EVDO only mode and took two speed tests the average download floating around 1.01Mbps Download and .56Mbps Upload with a latency of 97ms.

If T-Mobile is located on the same site with Sprint, wouldn't it be easier to get back haul from the same provider? Since the fiber has been built out already, simply just tapping into it. Same has done here in San Diego, AT&T mobility site with fiber, Sprint had ordered AT&T back haul which was tapped from same feed.
This will depend on what vendors are available whether its AT&T, CenturyLink, Comcast, or some type of municipal fiber provider and if they will be able to serve T-Mobile's needs. Even if providers are co-located on the same cell site they don't necessarily use the same backhaul vendor, the situation is different at each cell site. I know a few sites around here where Verizon is using Windstream and Sprint is CenturyLink.
