I don't recall exactly where I read it, but somewhere I saw that Qualcomm is working on a chip that will support basically all bands of LTE, instead of making a different one for each carrier and that it would be paired with the quad core S4 processor. I'm really hoping that lands in Nexus device by the end of this year. I would be ALL over it. Something like that is what I'm waiting for instead of going for a Galaxy S III. That's actually a good point. Never thought about that. I have horrible battery life on my 3D, and my speeds are generally no more than 200 kbps. A lot of the times I will have low signal cause Sprint coverage kind of sucks around here, and other times it will drop to 1X in an area where I know I have 3G. Sometimes I really wonder if staying with Sprint is worth the bad coverage and slow speeds for the promise of a better LTE network that's years off from being what Verizon has around here. I priced out a plan at Verizon a month or two ago and it was the same price as what I'm paying with Sprint, but it was a 2 GB plan. I use just a bit over 2 GB each month and I'm sure I would use more provided with LTE, so idk. Which network gets the next Nexus phone will probably sway me.

Damn yall are ridiculous lol. I also call it the triangle, and RTP is a section of raleigh/durham/chapel hill although I would argue to include morrisville and a small part of Cary in there too... Whatever you want to call it, we're in dire need of NV lol. I did a Wimax speed test yesterday (which I was very lucky to get a signal indoors) and got 800 kbps down and 200 up. Then the signal dropped. 3G was 160 kbps down/85 up. It's almost like having old AOL dial up for your phone...

Glad to hear this info. I was starting to consider switching to Verizon once my contract was up but if we'll get a preview within a month or two I might stick around. Do you know if the towers coming online in August will be LTE only at that time or will they have the upgraded 3G as well?

Wish I could say the same. At the NC state fair in Raleigh a year or two ago, Sprint's network was SO ridiculously overloaded that it was impossible to send a text or call anyone, and forget trying to go online and do anything. I though switching to Wimax would be a good idea, since it was outdoors and I figured I would have decent coverage. Nope, same deal. I couldn't do anything. I was pretty pissed about that whole situation. I get decent wimax coverage in Cary in some places, but forget driving anywhere. I'm a delivery driver for my job and I stream music all the time while I'm driving, and I can't use wimax because it drops connection so often. Can't go more than a mile down the road without it dropping. The only place I use it anymore is when I'm at the gym. For some freak reason, even though I have almost no 3G service, I get full 4G when I'm inside the gym and it's even in a shopping complex that sits in a bowl basically, below the ground level of it's surroundings.

Well, lucky you. Down the road in Raleigh/Cary, my last speed test put me at 164 kbps down and 85 kbps up. Seems to be going no where but down lol. Sprints network upgrade map for the band aid fixes are doing nothing at all, as they show to have completed many around my area but the network has only got worse. Praying for a speedy NV roll out...

But why would my device be connected to a tower much further away with much lower signal? Isn't the whole point to connect to the tower with the best reception? Just sitting at the light for a few minutes, it still sits on 2 bars until I cross the center of the intersection, then it switches.

So here's a question... There's this Sprint "tower" that's really a water tower with antennas and radios mounted on it. It's maybe a few hundred feet from this intersection. When I'm sitting at the light where the blue dot is, I get full signal, 6 bars. When I'm sitting at either yellow dots which is maybe 30 ft from the blue dot, I get literally 2 out of 6 bars. When I cross the intersection coming from the yellow to the blue dot, it immediately jumps from 2 to 6 bars. Are Sprint's towers that bad or what's the deal here? I'd figure there would be a gradual increase in signal, especially when it's directly in my line of sight and it should be much higher considering how close I am to it. The picture I took of the tower itself is when I was across the intersection, with 2 bars.

Every person I have known that said they HAD to have a hardware keyboard on their phone has done a complete 180 after getting a phone that's a full touch screen. I think they are just being stubborn and don't want to take the time to get used to full touch screen typing. Especially with the amazing auto corrects we have now days, it's just a lot faster...

I also had this dilemma since I found out my upgrade was available as of two days ago. As much as I love the Galaxy Nexus, it's specs are too outdated to be worth signing a two year contract for. If I could swap out my 3D for it I would in a heartbeat, but not for another contract. My friend just got one on Verizon and I'm super jealous haha. As far as the Evo LTE, I'll be passing on that as well. I went to play around with one yesterday at the Sprint store. It was very fast, especially in browser performance but my 3D is still fast enough to handle anything I throw at it really (thanks to MeanROM ICS). I hate the looks though. If it looked like the One X, I wouldn't be able to resist it. But it's got like 5 different designs slammed together into one, and just makes it look like a clusterfuck. The Nexus has a very simple design but that's what makes it so beautiful. The entire front is just solid black, you can't even tell where the screen ends until you turn it on. It's also way too light for my taste, although I guess that's the direction all new phones are moving in and I'll have to get used to that lol. I think I'm ready to move away from HTC though. Having Sense on my past two phones, I've decided that stock android is what I want. It's faster, better organized, the UI is better, and updates are more timely. HTC took ages to push gingerbread to the Evo 4G and the 3D has yet to recieve ICS (officially). AOSP roms are normally pretty buggy and sometimes have performance issues (at least that was the case on the Evo 4G, it took a very long time to make CM7 daily usable and it still had bugs), and CM9 is nowhere even close to being usable on the Evo 3D. So I'm waiting for the next big thing. Preferably a Nexus device, that has the qualcomm quad core S4 processor with the adreno 320 GPU. Or a quad core exynos that has LTE but I'm doubtful that will happen. My 3D is still very fast and I just don't think there's anything else out right now worth locking myself into another two year contract for.

Just watched the whole thing. That brings up some great points. I've always wondered how tower maintenance gets done cause I never see towers being worked on, but I knew it couldn't be an easy job. Definitely very dangerous and apparently very underpaid. I would accept no less than $20 an hour to do a job like that. Everyone wants Sprint to complete this whole NV thing in a matter of no time but most people don't realize the extreme amount of work and money it takes. I give props to these guys and my heart goes out to those who have lost their lives doing it.

There is always an option for HD on youtube. The only difference is, with wimax or LTE it is enabled by default. With 3G, you have to toggle it manually. Although good luck streaming HD on sprints 3G network lol

That's what I like to see. I'll be more than happy with 3G speeds like that.

Ahh, I didn't know that Sprint was not using the Nextel towers at all. I thought that the iDEN sites that were being decommissioned were going to be converted to LTE and added into network vision. So what happens to people that are on nextel now but live in an area with little to no sprint service?

That's great news. I'm really looking forward to 800 mhz LTE. I really hope the Galaxy S III supports it though, which is what I'm planning on getting for my next phone. I'd hope for 2500 mhz TD-LTE support for when clearwire lights that up, but I have my doubts. I actually don't spend that much time in Fuquay even though I live there; well more between the holly springs/fuquay border on sunset lake road. It doesn't seem to be location specific. I work in Cary and that's when I stream music mostly, and that's when it usually happens. I updated my PRL about two weeks ago when I updated my radios so that I could use 2.17 software ROMs for my 3D.

I was asking a legitimate question, not flaming Sprint. You want to see some sprint flaming, jump over to the XDA forums. I think I have the right to express my frustration when I'm not getting the service I am paying for. Premium data fee or not, I should not be connecting to 1X for data when I'm in an area I KNOW has good 3G coverage. I didn't know if there was a technical explanation for this, I figured this would be the best place to ask. Thanks for the support. I don't think it's tower maintenance though, as it happens when I'm driving around and switching from tower to tower. I doubt every single tower in the Raleigh/Durham area is under maintenance at the same time lol. Like today, I was driving home from work from Cary to Fuquay Varina, and the entire time I was streaming iheartradio it was on 1X. Started out on 3G (albeit extremely slow 3G) and then next time I look at the phone it's on 1X. It's happened to me since maybe...6 months after I signed up with Sprint? Or maybe I just didn't notice it much when I first had my phone, or due to the fact that stock roms will not tell you if you are on 1X, it always shows 3G and I didn't root my phone till a few months after I got it. And it's not the phone cause had an Evo 4G and now a 3D and it happened on both.
