  1. So you're saying the rest of the year continue turning on band 41 in more markets as well as adding a 2nd career of band 25 mostly ? And what do you mean add LTE to ground sites ? Can you explain that ?

More B41 carriers is occurring now at existing 8t8r sites. From a customer standpoint LTE has almost become a requirement. Historically Sprint waited until tower mounted radios were installed to turn on LTE. These provide much better signal, mimo, etc. With the use of combiners, LTE can be added to sites with ground mounted radios with far less capital with reduced but still good coverage. These sites can support 10x10 LTE. We have not confirmed any in Ohio with second carrier, including one surrounded by second carrier sites.

  2. Sprint has definitely been going after the low hanging fruit of more LTE b41 carriers and more 25 LTE carrier bandwidth for a while. This will likely continue given CFO comments. They also have been adding LTE to ground mounted sites. I expect all of this to continue. Small cells are a greater unknown at this point, especially their timing. Sprint wants to have a profitable year for the first time in many years. The concept is this will help drive down interest costs.

  3. There are any number of issues at play which may have effected their decision. In New Orleans (where they have the D block), I fully expect them to eventually transition to 10x10 LTE across the entire A block; but for now, they have a consistent 2C configuration across the whole market.

I also don't know what CDMA carriers are actually active at this point (I have depicted what would still fit from their "high capacity" band plan used during the RRUS 31 deployment); but I do know for sure that most sites didn't get the full complement of multiple PCS antennas and radios. The sites that didn't would only be able to run 6 CDMA carriers with 2 LTE carriers active.

If we could get modem data on cdma channels in SCP that would be great (two big ifs). Then we could have a much better idea of what is actually happening.

  4. I am a little surprised that 10x10  is deployed how it is or maybe the line is the road ways. Because as I drove up I79 it was bouncing back and forth between 5x5 and 10x10 from Canonsburg to Neville Island. Then it was solid to Wexford then I went on I-76 which was mostly solid 10x10 until Oakmont then back to jumping back and forth.

I don't have the time or energy to track it but it seems they just plucked 10x10 anywhere instead of cluster launching it.

I believe it is more planned based on what we have seen in Columbus.  1) sites without B41 seem to have a higher likelihood, same with heavily used sites. 2) I believe they have basically setup two networks, a 5x5 and a 10x10, possible due to CDMA channel requirements of some older phones.  Based on careful observations, when you start with a 5x5 network , it is inclined to keep you on 5x5, when you are on 10x10, it is inclined to keep you on 10x10.  Given the number of 10x10 sites observed, Pittsburgh has likely had them for a while.  This situation is likely temporary.  Notices have been sent out on how to update PRLs on old phones by re-provisioning as well as reports of forced PRL and data profile updates.  Analysis of the latest PRLs indicate changes in CDMA channels.

  5. Here is one from just now, same site but further away. I am away from my computer because I'm in the process of moving so I downloaded Tapatalk. I took a ##debug# screenshot this time.

Just like CA, the best aspect of 10x10 is better speeds at the edge.

  6. thats nice, now if they could only work on getting their 4G coverage as good as their 3G coverage.

also no speed test picture posted?

A Speed test or two will likely be shown after 3xCA arrives. Right now you would need before and after and control for many variables.

Sprint B41 3rd carrier has arrived at about 30 sites so far in Columbus.  It will boost b41 throughput by up to 50% at these sites.  Initially it is available to the original "spark" phones (G2, G3, etc).  Carrier aggregation phones (G4, etc) continue to use the 1st and 2nd carrier at this time. Later it will support 3xCA on phones such as the Samsung S7 and HTC 10.

  8. In 7 months there will be a new administration. Of course confirmation of new FCC members and Department of Justice leadership will take time.  New merger and acquisition opportunities will likely arise.

There are also possibilities with refinancing Sprint debt that could substantially reduce interest expense, but these will need to be creative.  Personal involvement of an iconic chairman of a conglomerate will likely open new doors of opportunity.

Son said Arora “should be CEO of a global business,” but should not be kept waiting in line at Softbank while Son finishes up his legacy projects.

“I had hoped to hand over the reins of SoftBank to (Arora) on my 60th birthday - but I feel my work is not done,” Son said in a statement. “I want to cement SoftBank 2.0, develop Sprint to its true potential and work on a few more crazy ideas. This will require me to be CEO for at least another five to ten years - this is not a time frame for me to keep Nikesh waiting for the top job.”

  10. Sorry, have had a hectic week (web server problems, which are on-going) and had completely forgotten.

I'll post some details a little later, but the biggest changes seem to be the addition of a number of "negative" records.  My quick research on the topic means these are networks that the phone IS NOT allowed to roam on.  Looks like this is primarily international operators (Some I can't identify, plus Bell, Nortel, Telus, Newtel, MT Mobility, IslandTel, SaskTel, Aliant Telecom, Hong Kong Telecom, China Telecom, Portatel Del Sureste, Comcel, Telecomunicaciones del Golfo, Operadora Unefon).

With a mandatory PRL coming up by the end of July for a number of markets (presumably for better LTE refarming since these areas are seeing spectrum swaps), have you noticed any changes in channels being checked?
