  1. Hasn't this been the thing that many users have speculated about since this issue first started coming up?

Phones are looking around to maintain and use the LTE Available List by SID-NID-BID so they can more quickly connect to LTE.  http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3060-signalcheck-android-app-to-monitor-your-2g3g4g-lte-signal-strengths/page-172&do=findComment&comment=432284

  2. I can get LTE in some places in Logan County, and out towards the wv Ohio line, specifically point Pleasant and from 10 min North of Fairplane toward the Parkersburg and Athens Ohio Area...

The areas you mention are likely part of the Sprint West Virginia Market (Logan, Point Pleasant and further west, and towards Parkersburg) or the Columbus Market (Athens, OH). Post any Signal Check screen shots here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/7395-west-virginia-sprint-sponsor-map-spreadsheet/ or PM logs you have for credit if new or changed.

  3. So, when are we going to see any network upgrades with the merger? Did I understand correctly that the deal will not close until early next year?

I was hoping to see some improvements soon...

When I checked a couple of days ago the licenses are still pending. Hopefully that part of the FCC can catch-up with the other part of the FCC soon.

  4.

1x800 now completed in Columbus OH (minus a few sites still in test mode).  What does that mean? Fewer dropped calls, better availability of data (at slow speeds -- but otherwise you would have none).  This is great new for the northern half of Columbus!!  The way it was done also opens the door for 5x5 B26 LTE which also has better building penetration, since it uses the same low frequency band.

    :tu: :tu:  Thank you Sprint

  5. Mike, CGI sectors 06, 07, 08 are being used for B25 in the Columbus market  for a 10x10 second carrier.  GCI sectors 03, 04, 05 for second carrier 5x5 have been retired in Franklin county and the adjacent counties (the traditional Metro), however to the best of our knowledge they still exist in Chillicothe, OH.

Currently, B25 sectors 06, 07, 08 only show up in SCP as LTE (not LTE 1900 or LTE B25).  We record these in our spreadsheet as #2-10 and in map info windows as GCI 2-10.  My thinking is Sprint could have just used GCI sectors 03, 04, 05 if they did not want to differentiate the 10x10.  We still have GCI sectors 00, 01, 02 as B25 5x5.  The pace of change to this new arrangement is quite rapid so far.

  6. If it follows what happened with B41 2nd carrier, in about a month CAx3 will begin with new sites, then it will take a while for the initial B41 3rd installations to get upgraded to B41x3. Who knows what will happen phonewise -- hopefully the S7 is not like the Nexus was with the original B41 (delayed 6 months before really functional). Of course added bandwidth is always welcome.

  7. Yesterday Sprint announce the creation of PhillieCo, LLC and and WirelessCo, LLC and asked the FCC to transfer 117 and 107 spectrum licenses to these entities from their similarly named Limited Partnerships.  Perhaps this is the beginning transactions for the long awaited NetworkLeaseCo which is to provide funding for the Next Generation Network via a quasi collateral arrangement.

  8. 40254 is the original EARFCN of the Clearwire network that was based in the Sprint leased EBS 2500 MHz range.

Sprint itself fired up EARFCN 40978+41176 in the Sprint licensed BRS 2600 MHz range.

The "third" carrier will be adjacent to the existing ones on Sprint equipment so EARFCN 41374.

In the future, 40254 will probably be sunsetted as the Clearwire equipment is converted to Sprint equipment with the 2500 MHz range not to be used until 2.5 High Capacity sites go live.

Very interesting.  I am used to unified EARFCN for Clear and Sprint, thus have been watching the Clear Earfcn because it is easiest.  They means they could split them in a market such as Columbus.  I will have to watch the Sprint EARFNs for B41 as well in the Columbus metro.

  9. I just wanted to see if the firmware had b41 third carrier in it.  I guess it will require a Class II Permissive Change filing (or it is the way it is).  Of course the S7 /S7 Edge does not have it showing in the debug screen at this time either.

  10. I have my demo in hand, although it's not yet activated, if anyone has any generic questions.

Edit: Not activated but on and has WiFi.

dial ##debug# and choose LTE (if possible.) Then take a picture of it.  Thanks!!!

  11. Just a quick followup to my Billings visit and terrible Sprint roaming.  I was there 5 days.  I traveled over town.  My experience wasn't limited to any one location. I was actively testing at different spots-- so, no air rave issue (or if so, doesn't account for other locations in town).

I'll be curious if Sprke will be able to use his phone at all for any purpose save WiFi.  It was really, really bad.

I had better experiences back in the analog days roaming, no exaggeration.  But let's see what the report is.

Were you getting good signal. What RSSI or RSRP or signal bars.  Perhaps the issue is backhaul.

This appears to back some limited root metrics results.  No wonder it is not on the coverage maps yet.  Lets hope the continue to improve it.

  13. Please follow up with us on what you experience in Marquette. I have the U.P. towers in my premier thread and I'd like to officially update the stats with the information.

Brynn, do you still have an iPhone 5? Or have you upgraded?

Although I don't Marquette is in the Green Bay BEA, most of Cellcom is definitely around the northern Wisconsin Market. Thus this makes sense.

  14. So all of those places are currently picking up some kind of sprint LTE ?

Based solely on what is showing in root metrics of an unknown date, I would say Great Falls MT, Missoula MT, and Caspar WY are plausible.  Likely any of these are just in testing or operating like a protection site (public not really allowed).  We really need a knowledgeable member on the ground to really know (or a cooperative Sprint insider).

  15. Completely off topic but important question but my girlfriend lives in Marquette MI and it says roaming area for coverage. She said that lately she's been seeing more sprint commercials whereas before she hadn't. Now I'm curious why would sprint have local advertising in an area that offers no sprint coverage ? I assume they don't plan on expanding in Marquette anytime soon if at all ???

This Sprint coverage map was last updated January 10, 2016.  The area is covered by Cellcom under 3G & more.  Let us know if you get LTE.

Next time start your own thread. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a long ways from Montana. Maybe a moderator will do this for you.

  16. The official FCC status of our various new locations remains as "Offlined for Expired License Review".

Nothing new on the Sensorly side, however Root Metrics shows the following entries (date unknown):

Caspar, WY lots of LTE entries, max speed 4.1/5 (down/up).

Rapid City, SD lots of LTE entries, but minimal speed of 0.1/0.1

Sioux City, SD lots of LTE entries, 2.5/4.6

Brookings, SD lots of LTE entries, 2.3/1.0

Watertown, SD lots of LTE entries, 1.7/0.9

Aberdeen, SD some LTE entries, 2.2/1.4

    Billings, MT 1.9/1.5

    Great Falls, MT 4.4/1.7

    Missoula, MT 3.6/1.2

Some others are also shown. We can not rule out carrier or LTE misidentification.

  17. Is 3xCA going to be a reality within the next 2 years to be freaked out about it?  Sprint is still in the process of trying to turn up 2xCA due to the Wimax shutdown and backhaul availability to support those speeds so I doubt that 3xCA will be a reality within the next 2 years which is about the typical lifetime of a new smartphone.  Like others have said, the average user will not know the difference and by the time 3xCA can become a reality will probably be more 2017 than 2016.

The VoLTE feature seems like a nice thing to have but I am not sure what Sprint's stance on their VoLTE deployment schedule.  If its not going to be deployed for another 2 years then it seems kinda weird to add it to the G5 and not the GS7 if they really want to test it out.

I think it is very likely that CAx3 will become a reality - no site work should be required.  It will require additional backhaul. It may not be universal but it should have significant impact.

VoLTE will likely require greater density.  This means Clearwire site conversions and small cells.  Sprint has a great plan, even has approval from Softbank, but no money yet.  Softbank seems to be inclined to spend money where Sprint has not expressed interest -- 600Mhz spectrum.  This could just be posturing or it could show doubts about Sprint's next generation network plan, hence delay of Volte implementation.

I agree that many customers will not notice.  Look at Apple without B41 for a long time.  Yet LG also has the heritage of the G2 -- one of the first working B41 LTE phones (ahead of the Nexus and others.)  A shame to lose this reputation. Reduced spend on high phones may leave them no choice.  Yet consumers need to know about the lack of CAx3, and given the reputation of the G2, will assume that it has it.  The tech press, dependent on advertising dollars, will likely say nothing.  Thus it falls to places like S4GRU.  I did contact LG before these posts and they would not admit or deny the lack of CAx3.
