  1. How far is this from Albuquerque and what does this mean for El Paso since it's technically in the same market

Not technically. It is the same market - the Albuquerque Market.

ABQ already had band 26. Not all sites have it and those that don't suffer. However, high traffic areas of town Jefferson center, Louisiana Malls and UNM seem to be pretty good. Downtown is awful.

  2. Yeah I read that over like 5 times since it was posted and I'm still confused.

No. Band 26 yes does cover band 5.

However, the equipment that Ericsson has deployed for example is for frequency 806 to 824 and 851 to 869.  850 Cellular starts at 824 to 849 and 869 to 894. This would require new equipment or a rip and replace of current equipment unless there has been a class permissive update that I missed.

  3. Yeah I'm not sure what about 10x10 on Band 26 requires the equipment to be upgraded to release 11. Wasn't Verizon running release 9 for the longest time and they use 10x10?

Remember folks the issue is that band 5 is seperate from band 26 spectrum. Band 13 verizon is using is contiguous spectrum. If sprint bough USCC, it would require new equipment to aggregate the separate spectrum together and it would be usable only in USCC areas. Not worth it to me.

  4. Yup! El paso is just harder place to build out a network, why idk! Its also a lot harder to get permits approved.. i remember one tower had a bird nest on it and they couldn't touch it until the bird nest left on its own lol. Im think 6 months. Im sure they want to at least get to 70 %

This timeline is not just specific to El Paso but every city/market where no band 41 exists. It will take this long in Abq, Santa Fe and Farmington. It is just the way it goes.

  5. Wish u had signal check pro.... those speed are hinting towards a second carrier on band 25

Yes those are!  Go into Fieldtest mode (*3001#12345#*) and see what your EAFRN is!

I thought that this would happen in ABQ or Santa Fe first as both cities have band 25 and 26 widely deployed but apparently Alamagordo needed it more!

  6. Well, clbowens mentioned it could go on for months, from what they heard. I wouldn't doubt that the auction might take a long time from all the potential issues. Already, some groups are complaining about T-Mobile's proposed timeline in their work implementing the spectrum they'd get for it and the timeline in equipment setup, I've heard.

Other problems are possible, as this auction involves more than most auctions do. I'm not a supporter of these auctions based on how I think they are unfair and just are not the best way of distributing spectrum to the wireless carriers. Added to this auction though, are broadcasters, which from my understanding are being given a choice whether or not or how much spectrum to give in this auction, which is going to make for some major differences by market. I definitely do not like this, and would rather the FCC reign in spectrum to fairly redistribute based on wireless carriers' existing equipment, network needs, customer experience demands, etc. Furthermore, I'd like to see this result in wireless carriers getting much more spectrum than they currently have. None of the wireless carriers would lose spectrum, rather they would gain spectrum which expands on their priority frequencies for much wider channels, only trading out spectrum they have less of for more of what they have the majority of. Markets ought to be more equally distributed this way without such huge gaps in spectrum allotment differences. This is what I'd like done, at least.

Anyways, it'll be interesting if Softbank does get a lot of spectrum in this auction, especially if it hinders T-Mobile's plans. It'll be interesting to see, just as it will if Softbank/Sprint tries again for an acquisition of T-Mobile. Then again so could AT&T try it, or even Dish. However, I'd like to see Sprint acquire Dish, so that Sprint could have a television package to help bundle services and bring in customers. If Sprint could get both Dish and T-Mobile, then Sprint would be king of spectrum and probably even of wireless. That would change Sprint into a massive powerhouse, one I'd definitely like to see happen.

A combined Sprint/Tmo/Dish is impossible. More improbable than a S/Tmo merger.  However, I could see a Dish Sprint merger. That is feasible.

  7. Sprint posted this in its Newsroom:

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/consumer-advisory.htm

Looks like a lot of people have been turning in their leased devices to other carriers when porting out from Sprint.

Sprint is going to start sending these customers advisory texts stating their lease obligations starting on April 4th.

"Sprint respects the right of its customers to switch carriers, but we want them to make informed decisions. Starting April 4, the company will begin notifying those customers via text message of their lease obligations when they move to a different carrier."

"Designed to help those customers comply with their lease terms, the text will read: “NOTICE-Sprint is processing your number porting request. Per your lease, return the device to Sprint or pay the full balance before selling or trading.” "

Well I don't disagree with this if it was a leased device.

  8. Last night I tried to download Marshmallow to my Note 4 and was told it would take 9+ hr.s... I figured I'd just plug it in overnight and let it go. Unfortunately my signal at home degraded so much, I kept getting download failed messages. When I gave up late at night, it said 19% complete 09:29:30 to complete...

SignalCheckPro shows LTE 1900 bouncing around between -111 and -104 every few seconds. These results are consistant.

I solved my download problem by going near a known tower in OB to get my Marshmallow update in only 2 1/2hr.s.

I would be REALLY POd at Sprint if any of my friends got better reception in my part of Pt. Loma, but their reception is generally worse with other carriers.

Yes, I've tried Airave- for unknown reasons it doesn't help. Good reason to keep up my land line.

Why didn't you use wifi at home?
  9. You're in Albuquerque, according to your profile information. The FCC has announced that no stations need to be bought in Albuquerque.

But the list of participants in the auction is confidential. Stations that "win" and go off air or move to VHF will be published immediately after auction, but non-winning participants are kept confidential for at least two years.

    Thank you
  10. Also, at this point is any completion date acceptable for you. Are you really willing to wait it out?

The network compared to three or four years ago is night and day. I'm not leaving bc I don't have huge speed tests. I don't watch video on my phone. That's why I have a roku or chromecast.

My plan with 5 phones is more affordable for me than if I left. Also I travel too much to rural NM to switch to tmo. There is places I go that Verizon and sprint are the only ones that work. Right now I am satisfied. When band 41 comes that's icing on the cake.
