  1. This is what T-Mobile gets for possessing minimal low band spectrum but putting its eggs in the VoLTE basket so soon. Still, I can understand why T-Mobile has made the move to disable band 12 on non VoLTE handsets.

The legal liability for T-Mobile could be significant if a non VoLTE handset were stuck on T-Mobile band 12 -- because that is native service, the highest priority -- but unable to make an E911 call. Better to avoid potential civil lawsuits, just leave those non VoLTE handsets with roaming or no service. As long as AT&T or some other GSM type provider signal is available, an E911 call will be connected, even on a handset that indicates no service due to T-Mobile prohibiting roaming in that LAC.

For further discussion, read the comment I left on the FierceWireless article this afternoon:

And, hey, even Fabian up voted my explanation -- though he declared it was "lengthy."

Hey if you want an explanation and clearly states the issues in an understandable format, length is necessary.

  2. Maybe he'll keep it or maybe he'll patch it up to where he can sell it. Only time will tell. I don't really care about the stock as I prefer not to own shares that trade in the low single digits. Too risky for me. They are there for a reason and history shows they rarely recover and are prone to being wiped out in a reorganization. If you think you can figure out patterns to trade it and make money good for you.

Being as I am in management of a public accounting firm, I am precluded from owning shares especially on audit clients. Sprint is one so no dice to me. However I wasn't merely saying invest but look how the price has recovered due to the actions taken by SB and sprint.

  3. Didn't the little guy want the HQ on the West Coast so it's closer to Japan? If the merger went through it would've been moved to Bellevue. Miami is going in the wrong direction. Of course we don't even know how long he'll own Sprint at this point so who knows. I would think the Kansas HQ will be gone at some point.

I disagree. The information that has been communicated as well as actions made by management, for me, have not made me believe SoftBank is done with sprint. It has strengthened my belief that Masa wants to see through. See my above post about the current stock price.

Decent results at the quarter, stock buy back and incentive pay bonus for management which is all viewed by the market as strong.

I agree. Also the stock has gained back half of what it lost in the last 6 months. Shows that no one cares about third or fourth place in the market.

  5. I see a crap load of T-Mobile commercials on tv, YouTube and even on iheart radio before my music starts to play. I can understand why they are so heavy on it cause the network won't sell itself alone like the big two. So this is the only way to get the word out.

    Generational demographic and targeted ads.

  6. Either way, because of Brightstar, I doubt that Marcelo's bank account will be hurting.

These guys must love money -- or the pursuit of money.

As I work in education, I make less than $50,000 per year. But I have the time and money to do what I want to do -- such as research and write for S4GRU. Even if I made 100 times my earnings, I do not think I would live my life that differently. Maybe I would just buy every handset released, set up my own RF testing lab, and publish the results for free.

I for myself am in public accounting and have my CPA. I just love to track the metrics these men/women have to obtain.

To some money is a motivating factor. 10 mill shares at $8 would be $80 million package if obtained.

  7. I read somewhere today that Verizon's VoLTE usage is half of what T-Mobile's is. Now what kind of numbers is that I don't know.

More recently, I can't seem to keep a call with a Tmo customer in albuquerque (my inlaws and most of my coworkers).  It is truly terrible. I find myself back in the 90's saying "can you hear me now?" and then I lose them.

It is a great idea but not a properly thought out soloution going forward.

  8. If they could covert the one by Paseo and Coors by getting some agreement by the tower that's right next to it, where its high enough to cover a lot more space, they would be golden, would help offset the usage at the one at Coors and Montano.

Coors and Montano is completed however, I think it has to be missing backhaul. When I uber over there I choose to leave my phone with LTE off.

  9. Yeah overall, ABQ is pretty good. Calls are amazing, and even SMS and MMS is perfect. Even in group MMS with other carriers, I have never had a problem with delayed or missing messages. Also what is nice, is the tower spacing is generally the same across the city, and I almost always have LTE in non GMO areas. (With the exception of Rio Grande between Montano and Paseo, it's never pretty over there)

Permits went through a couple of months ago. I have a feeling they might already be completed or in process awaiting centurylink to save the day.

  10. One more note, I'm at my aunt's right now and really wish I had Sprint. T-Mobile is a dead zone here, except for right by the window. I'm sitting on the couch holding the device up on the top of it, very difficult to type. Sprint definitely worked better in this area. If I had GoogleFi, I'd certainly test it. I'm pretty sure Sprint would be the connection with it.

Thank you for proving my point and to better point out I apologize for commenting on the length.  Most of us here appreciate your somewhat wild views.

Also it proves to you no provider is perfect. Realize this when you come back to sprint or going to att/big red. Nothing will meet your needs in every location. FACT.
