  1. I personally think it's because of the massive subscriber adds they're having quarter after quarter.

I've noticed in a few rootmetrics reports that t-mobile speeds have decreased. It's not unusable by any means but they've decreased overall so it may be cause for concern from the tmobile engineering department who may be raising alarms early and then tmobile preemptively attacking the issue head on via applying the TOS to the top 3% of data users.

Very good argument. I wonder once this practice gets more publicity how it will effect the Tmo appearance.

I understand they don't have more spectrum to move to but perhaps this move was a little preemptive.

  2. Just ran into a crew doing the "65 mghz." upgrade the tower in Alamogordo. Talking with the guy not sure what the difference will be when done. Since I did the ios 8.3 update I have had a degrade in signal strength. Hope this helps.

He is putting up the new RRUs 31 vs the ericsson 11's.  More capable. I haven't noticed anything with 8.3 changing my signal strength.

Assumption is that they finally optimized the tower which does change the signal strength.

  3. After some further investigation.. I have some bad news. iOS now checks if the app is running as root before returning the information from CoreTelephony.

    The error is:

    "Caller not allowed to perform action: TelephonyApiTest.240, action = sandboxed lookup, code = 1: Operation not permitted, uid = 501, euid = 501, gid = 501, egid = 501, asid = 0"

and it returns no info. This kills all hope of a non-jailbreak CellularInfo. If an 8.3 jailbreak is released I'll be sure to release an un-sandboxed version for jailbroken users.

Well now I have to decide whether to have firm email on my phone or jailbreak and not.

This may be the influence of my return to andriod.

  4. Ow. LTE is essentially dead here at the Cherry Blossom festival. I just had a speed test fail to initialize... on band 41. That's a first. 2nd carrier is really necessary here. 3G is great though, almost 2mbps down. Probably because the vast majority of people here are on LTE.

Crazy. Enjoy those trees. Thank the Japanese.

  5. No, that is an incorrect statement.  They may have recorded the fastest median speed, but RootMetrics was unable to statistically separate Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile to determine a clear winner for the speed metric.  Sprint is TIED for the fastest provider in Denver.

Ok go back to the report. Click on "How RootScores are calculated". That is where I obtained them.

  6. Yeah, when I had a GS5, if you did wifi calling, it would completely drop the Sprint signal and SMS would send over wifi just fine.

Does Wi-Fi Calling Support Messaging (SMS & MMS)?

For Android devices, messaging is supported in Wi-Fi Calling mode even if there is not any coverage from the Nationwide Sprint Network.

For iOS devices, messaging is still handled by the Nationwide Sprint Network. If you do not have coverage then messaging services are not supported. This functionality is expected to be supported over Wi-Fi in the future. iMessage on iOS is supported over Wi-Fi.

At least they said it would be supported in the future.  IT is a start.

  7. The announcement mentioned no sms or mms, has anyone tried that yet? I can send sms on my s5 while on WiFi calling. I wonder why ios wouldn't be provisioned for texting

SMS will go through but it goes through the macro network just like the S5 per the Sprint FAQ.  If there is no signal from the macro network, there will be no SMS sent through the wifi.

  8. I downloaded the last couple carrier bundles from an Apple manifest file. The value for "LTE Band Pref" in the carrier.pri file is unchanged from Sprint 18.1 to 19.1. It DID change from 17.1 to 18.1 though. Not sure what to think of that.

    Hoe do you find this?
  9. I have Sprint executives working on a case with me about the iphone not switching bands properly. They're still working on it, but sent me an update today. It basically proves that bc10 was not being utilized, but since the prl update last night, it is now rocking and rolling. Good stuff here.
