  1. That's great, you live in a big city where 2.5 would fair well, but sprint serves more than just big cities, and if they do what some suggest, they will essentially be the cdma version of Tmo. If it doesn't work in my area, what's the point in having it? I will never benefit from 2.5 in my small town. ....it just won't work well here with the tower placement.

I don't have band 41 in my city but after the experience in Los Angeles proper this past month, I think B41 is more important than ever. My phone 6 stuck to a weak B41 signal more than a weak B25 signal.  I was pulling 5 to 20 megs depending if I was on a clear tower or an ALU equipment at -115 to -125 rsrp.  I have to disagree. Once you experience it, it will change your perception of it.

As for propagation, i found it to be very adequate.  The only times I really lost B41 was deep in my hotel.

  2. No, the reason Dish would not have participated as such in the AWS-3 auction would not have been limited finances. The reason would have been already plentiful spectrum holdings.

Had Dish merged with Sprint, it would have gotten its spectrum prize -- Sprint's huge, 100+ MHz tracts of BRS/EBS. Dish would not have needed further spectrum.

Not to mention, Dish already had its own nationwide 40 MHz of S Band AWS-4, which is 3GPP standardized as band 23 for up to 20 MHz FDD. That could have been in service on infrastructure and devices by now, matching or exceeding VZW "XLTE" and T-Mobile "wideband" bandwidth in every market.

And that does not even touch upon Sprint's longstanding PCS and SMR spectrum, nor upon Dish's unpaired Lower 700 MHz and PCS/AWS-2 H block spectrum.

I am confused. How does one use unpaired spectrum?
  3. As often that I criticize T-Mobile, a merger with Dish would be a wonderful thing for them, in terms of increasing their spectrum holdings. Especially where they really need more spectrum, such as in the Chicago Market.

Currently, T-Mobile is preparing to have 15x15 AWS on LTE soon here in Chicago. With Dish Network AWS3 spectrum, they'd have both 15x15 AWS and 15x15 AWS3 likely all on LTE, along with Dish having an additional 15mhz unpaired. This would help T-Mobile tremendously and I hope for their customers' benefit this merger happens as soon as it is possible.

Also, it is very unlikely that the government would oppose this merger in any way, so that part of the process ought to be fairly quick, and since DT is so heavily desiring to sell T-Mobile, that part of the process ought to be quick too. Even still, once a deal has been reached between the companies, hopefully Dish will allow T-Mobile to deploy that AWS3 spectrum right away.

Well ATT came out yesterday in favor of the net neutrality IF the FCC allowed the Directv merger. Interesting as If ATT gets Directv, I don't see an issue with this not going through.

  4. You didn't say exactly where.  Is it Mission Beach, South Mission Beach or Mission Bay?

Mission Beach It's one of the last places in San Diego to get NV installed. There are 2 very important sites that will serve the beach that don't appear to even been started.  I checked a few days ago and saw nothing new. Today I got very poor 3G with no working data near Belmont Park.  In Sprint's defense, all major carriers have had issues in Mission Beach.  Most likely for the same reasons.  This is a case where WiFi will come in handy.

The news might not be all bad depending on where exactly you will be located. There is also a chance that the new equipment might be installed before August.

San Diego has the usual NIMBY stuff, fussy building owners & slow city approvals like anywhere else.  California ALSO has the "Coastal Commission" which is bureaucracy at it's stifling best (worst).  They have a "slow" say in anything that happens within roughly a mile from the ocean.

Honestly I am not to familiar with the area.  I do know it is at a resort which per google maps looks like in the bay not the beach. The beachhouse i am going to rent is on the beach though.

  5. Masa clearly wanted T-Mobile to become a part of Sprint, which we all now know isn't going to happen. I also agree with many here that this doesn't mean Sprint can't still grow on its own, something I hope strongly for. However, what I'm seeing here with these reports coming both from Sprint and various media about Sprint pertaining to Masa/Softbank's interest in Sprint, which when I say "interest", I'm not referring to financial, but in terms of motivation, it doesn't seem to me that Masa/Softbank are truly in this for the long run. I'm getting the impression they want Sprint to grow just enough so they can sell it for a gain on their initial investment, but not for the same vision Masa once had for it.

I disagree. The merger won't happen now but under a different administration it could. Don't be naive to think that just b/c it didn't happen once that it won't happen. Personally, I don't want it, but Softbank could pull that trigger next summer.

  6. Do you guys thinks that there will come a time in the near future where Sprint no longer allows Everything Data plan customers to purchase subsidized phones and keep the same plan? I have heard that with Verizon unlimited data customers, they were no longer allowed to purchase subsidized phones to continue their plans.

If they do I most likely would save more money on my plan. I have three family members who don't use a whole lot of data and don't upgrade every two years.

  7. If I had to guess, that's what they will probably do. Most of Mexico's households are built out of brick and cement, so you'd think they'd like some good building penetration into homes and businesses. I think that they, just like Sprint, will have to change some regulations to be able to use LTE in that band with the COFETEL (or whatever their version of the FCC is named now).

With Sprint having this band on their phones, I don't think it would be too hard to have phone manufacturers add LTE Band 26 into At&t phones. I hope this, and the Canadian 2.5 GHz auction, will bring carriers to support multi-band LTE phones. One thing I am jealous about the iPhone is their amazing offering of LTE bands.

The att iPhone already has band 26 on it.
  8. The reason I asked was that the Clear B41 originally in the area was extremely fringe throughout the parks when I was there.

If the Nokia equipment is in the same place or marginally closer than the Clear antennas, then what was reported appears to be very impressive performance, comparatively speaking.

99.9% guarantee they just turned off the Clear B41 sectors and let the Nokia equipment take over.

cant wait. be there in november. I know a really long time
