  1. I lived in Palm Beach and barely got T-Mobile signal in any building I was in and lived in St Augustine and got only fringe or Emergency Only. I would consider Palm Beach as a high class, high value urban area and St Augustine is a really big tourist attraction for many internationally and is home to two colleges and close to Jacksonville, the largest city in the United States. Plus, forget relying on T-Mobile for an emergency while driving from one end of Florida to the other. I guess it isn't a very good option for the elderly population that makes up 60% of the state. It's 2014, the time when a cell phone was a buggy and niche market is over. A cell phone must be capable of delivering a consistent and reliable service to its subscribers. T-Mobile definitely falls short in this department. That's just the reality of it. That's why so many are with AT&T and Verizon. It's not because they are caring and customer friendly. It's because you can be in Sturgis and still make a phone call. That is why Sprint is a good third provider, they have a vast roaming network that supplements their own network.
  2. Yeah...the G2 is like a great football team...the N5 is like an almost great football team, kind of like the Patriots...or perhaps I should say the G2 is like the Yankees whereas the N5 is like the almost as great Red Socks... I kid, really.
  3. I have all three bands enabled. I am currently at 65% battery life with 22 1/2 hours runtime and an estimated 26 hours remaining.
  4. It's more of a combination of your sources, your tirelessly hard work, participation from all the wireless nerds who visit, contribute and donate to this site and a good dose of understanding from your family.
  5. Knock on, crazy good battery and awesome camera kept me with the G2 over the Nexus 5. Plus, I am probably one of the few crazy ones who actually likes having the rear button placement. But I agree that the Nexus 5 has to be one of the best cell phones made thus far. It does everything well and is top notch in every aspect, including the rare ability to be high end and still have great build quality. At least, for the black one...I am not sure why they gave the black model such a nice matte texture but doomed the white model to a glossy plastic existence.
  6. I usually keep insurance on my phones for the first 6-12 months and then cancel it. By then, most damage or defects are already done and the device value and possibility of working out any issues with CSR on a reduced cost replacement outweigh the cost of keeping the insurance on the account each month.
  7. So has anyone heard any info or rumor as to when this KitKat and/or Spark update may arrive?
  8. It is nice to see AT&T worried about the little guys at the bottom. I don't dislike T-Mobile, but no matter what happens, DT wants out, so T-Mobile is on its way out. Out of the options, I didn't want to see T-Mobile a part of AT&T and I don't want to see T-Mobile a part of Dish. I feel that Softbank/Sprint would be the most humane resting place for T-Mobile. With Softbank, I can see many of the "uncarrier" swag started with T-Mobile to continue. I am pretty sure this thought haunts AT&T and the rest of the industry. T-Mobile's new image and momentum paired with Softbank's pockets and Sprint's Network Vision pushed out nationwide would lead to an unstoppable force of change in the entire country.
  9. I haven't done anything to deviate from stock and I normally go a good 3-5 hours at 100% if don't do much besides a few email checks and a quick look at the weather. The idle standby on this phone is ridiculous. I can leave it all night and only drop 2% in 8 hours.
  10. I was at the Avenues and data was so ridiculous that it took 20 minutes to load my gmail account. On the upside, I saw a little more LTE on i95 and it was really strong along Old St Augustine road when I stopped for gas and some Tijuana Flats.
  11. I got a notice about TEP in the Mail Wednesday about the changes. I hardly ever use the insurance for repairs or claims, so it didn't really bother me.
  12. It'd be difficult to leave behind their trifecta of perfection: sweet tea, fried chicken and potato salad. It is interesting how this topic has turned completely to supermarket brands. But on topic, I feel that Boost can go away since it's just a negative image of a sub prime customer base. Virgin isn't really a household name here in the States like it is in Europe. I can see Sprint merging and re-branding the two. It's a shame, though. Having multiple brands seems like an easy way to ensure more people choose a MVNO under the Sprint umbrella.
  13. The equipment used allows for both WiMAX and LTE to be broadcast on the 2500/2600 MHz. They are still using WiMAX and will continue to do so for a while. As I mentioned, she could look into getting the iPhone switched out if there is a hardware issue with it or see if Sprint will allow an early upgrade if it isn't too early in the contract. Usually when there is a device issue, Sprint is good at providing options. I once had a defective phone swapped out during contract after multiple attempts to fix it.
  14. Dolphin is a great browser. I also like Firefox, too.
  15. I asked about this a few months back with Sprint on the phone and was told they aren't going to implement this policy until they actually shut down their wimax network which won't happen until 2015 or later. It seems it'd be better to just get the iPhone exchanged out, extend contract and pick up a free phone or find one used and in good condition and just use that if your friend is looking for a cheap way into an LTE device.
  16. I am manually checking for updates at least twice a day now. Hopefully this Spark update is soon. Sometimes "early" in the year in sales-speak equates to May...I guess it's early compared to say, October..
  17. That means no simultaneous data and voice with EVDO and LTE. It's cool that it had all three radios enabled without any update needed. Just waiting for my G2 to be updated. As much as I am not thrilled with the Spark icon, I cannot wait to see it in my notification bar.
  18. Hopefully Sprint will be working on a robust HetNet to compliment their new network to ensure the most complete and consistent service possible in all indoor/outdoor and major events.
  19. I always put a case on my phones, so it doesn't really make much difference to me if they used metal, carbon, plastic, glass or licorice. Just as long as it has good hardware and a strong radio, it's all good. Those speakers are pretty sweet, though. My mom really enjoyed showing off her One.
  20. There has to be a batch of defective units. My wife and I have had zero GPS problems. The G2 locks onto GPS and routes faster than my wife's overly expensive Garmin. Y'all need to seek out a Sprint repair store, call CSR or go to wherever you got your phones if you have these many issues and get it straight so you aren't stuck with a bad phone. I haven't had earpiece problems, haven't had speaker problems and haven't had GPS problems, so I know there are good G2s out there.
  21. They definitely need to do something about the radio. I really like HTC, but after going to my LG from the Evo, I don't think I can ever trust the radio performance of another one of their phones.
  22. Funny, I always knew you were a Dick..
