  1. There's a tower about a mile down the road from me that hasn't had a single antenna on it for at least 5 - 6 years. Antennasearch says there's 10 antennas on it.
  2. Is it even legal to sell that to the public being that it operates on licensed frequency? I doubt Sprint's gonna be trolling ebay looking for radios LOL
  3. The GS3 is proven to be dimmer than either of the previous 2 generation Galaxy S's. Actually, the original Galaxy S is brighter than both the S2 and the S3 (source: http://www.displaymate.com/OLED_Galaxy_S123_ShootOut_1.htm). I can confirm with having owned the Epic 4G and Epic 4G Touch (which I still have and could do side-by-side comparisons).
  4. The GS3 is pretty poor in the sun, even worse than previous generation Samsung AMOLED screens because the max brightness isn't quite as high (AMOLED displays in general are not as bright as LCDs). In my experience, it's barely usable in direct sunlight.
  5. hm, wonder what the deal is then.
  6. Just noticed a week or so ago that apps like CDMA Field Test, Net Monitor, etc are no longer able to get cell tower info like BSID and location. CDMA Field Test just shows "-1" for all those values and of course, isn't able to display the tower on the map. Not sure if this started happening after updating to LI3 or if it's related to the upgrades they're doing to the towers here. Anyone else experience this? I can still get the info in the ##Debug# menus.
  7. Trucks and trailers were at a tower I drive by every day for about 3 weeks. I've seen them up on the tower a couple times, but looks like they must be done since they were gone this morning. I noticed yesterday that eHRPD was gone, but it's back this morning. Not getting any LTE off of it though. I'll have to drive around and see if I can catch them at another tower.
  8. From my experience, in areas where there is very poor LoS to the tower, 800 mhz provides a substantial improvement in signal/coverage. Even with clear LoS, there is a definite improvement and it's helped fill some small gaps where I live.
  9. I've run sensorly several times here both at work and home and made more than one trip from work to home with sensorly running during the trip, and practically nothing has shown up on the map. I have a strong data connection everywhere i'm at, and I see it supposedly sending messages, but I've got nothing more than a single faint spot to show up at home, and that's it (i probably had the phone sitting there running the app for a half hour or something). I hear people talking about how they drive around and map all the time, but this just doesn't seem to work for me? Running a stock GS3 rooted.
  10. They're subcontracted. They don't have "teams" that travel around the country, so working in one area is not going to compensate the work taking place in another area.
  11. Hell, my GS3 will only connect to it for EVDO, and maybe once every month it will connect to it for voice. I'm lucky they've had 800 mhz live here for 3 months or so because I don't even really need the Airave anymore. Even my native EVDO signal is decent now.
  12. Without downloading an app, the easiest way is probably to go to Settings -> About -> Status, and it will be under Mobile network type.
  13. Funny how Funny how the day I noticed eHRPD, construction crews cut a fiber line and 1600 pairs of copper and cripple the entire city. lmao
  14. Seeing ehrpd in Lafayette and West Lafayette now
  15. I was thinking that too, since it's in between the two other major towers in the area.
  16. These guys have been parked here for 2 weeks now. I've seen a couple trucks there too and some guys out working, but never had the chance to be able to stop and chat. (below you'll see my lame attempt at trying to snap a pic while driving with overcast skies)
  17. For gaming, the amount of latency isn't nearly as important as the amount (or lack thereof) of jitter. The latency on LTE will be low enough in most areas, but I haven't seen LTE long enough to do any latency testing for jitter. With that said, I've gamed on EVDO, and it works well enough in some games, poorly in others, but you can have regular ping spikes of 25ms+, which is what kills you. It's hard for a server to keep time sync with you (the client) when your latency is all over the place.
  18. There have been a couple trailers and trucks parked at one of the towers I drive by to go to work since Thursday of last week. I've seen a few guys out there as I drive by but haven't seen them up on the tower or anything and haven't noticed any changes. The tower has been 3G complete since probably May. When they come to do the rest of the work after the 3G stuff is done, do they have to go back up on the tower and add more panels and/or RRUs, or is that pretty much taken care of with the initial 3G work? Usually when i'm driving home after work, they've already closed the trailers up and left, but if I get the opportunity I might stop by and see what they're up to.
  19. Goshen is actually in the Fort Wayne/South Bend market, so it's good to know that both the Fort Wayne and Indy markets are well underway.
  20. Yeah, all the towers in my area are owned by Global Signal/Crown Castle. Sprint just leases space on the tower.
  21. I don't always trust speedtest.net anyways. I usually verify my speeds by going to http://www.thinkbroadband.com/download.html and downloading one of the test files while watching bandwidth in real-time using a bandwidth monitor app (actually, NetTraffic Widget in this case).
  22. Good deal, glad to see Valpo getting some love!
