  1. The S3 does not have a backlight, as it is an AMOLED screen. It isn't a very bright screen though, as you mentioned, definitely near useless in sunlight. My guess would be that with the higher pixel density, they had to back down the max brightness a bit to keep the screen from getting too hot or using too much power.
  2. I'll be there testing it too
  3. Awesome, they'll have a nice load test when NASCAR comes to Chicagoland Speedway next month.
  4. I'm just wondering what kind of threshold there will be for 1900 that will allow the phone switch to 800, for example, is it going to try to hang on for dear life to 1900? The 1900 signal can fluctuate quite a bit for me at home, anywhere from -85ish to -100.
  5. If it were just a regular CS rep, I wouldn't be so shocked, but the fact that it was a supervisor is a little disturbing. Resorting to lying about your competitor in order to retain customers is absurd and you wonder how many times they've done this already.
  6. Should be able to get into the debug menu on the gnex with the following dialer code: *#*#DEBUG#*#* code: 777468 Under 1x engineering you can find which band you are on (10 = 800, 1 = 1900)
  7. That is the goal until NV arrives. They've been doing these band-aid fixes in pretty much all congested areas. Performance was pretty much exactly the same as you posted above at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, but ever since a few months ago, I can pull over 1 Meg down on 3G pretty much any time of the day (from Friday - Sunday when i'm down there).
  8. 800 mhz again in rensselaer, in today -74dbm where it would normally be in the mid 80's on 1900
  9. no, i'm back on 1900 with a weaker signal from the exact same tower. 1x engineering debug screen now reports band class 1 like it does on all other 1900 towers. All day yesterday it was on band class 10 channel 476 and the signal was noticeably stronger. See the screenshot i posted a page or two back. So whether they shut it off or whatever, i had it yesterday but not today. That is all.
  10. Looks like they shut off 800 mhz in town this morning, and my signal definitely felt it. lol
  11. It has nothing to do with the proxy, as I have it removed on my end and get the same thing.
  12. It's come in handy for me when i'm tethered and I get a call.
  13. No, referring to 1x signal, sorry. I might make a video of it.
  14. Anyone notice that their signal level gets "stuck"? For example, I'll notice my signal reading will stay at -xx dbm (even in debug screen) for an hour or more and the only way to "unstick" it is to make a call or toggle airplane mode. As soon as I do either, it's like a light switch and I can see the signal level start fluctuating slightly like it should when I move around my house. When it's stuck, I mean I can wrap the phone in foil and the signal reading won't change. Obviously, it chokes the actual signal, but Android doesn't seem to get the message. Running stock LG8 rooted.
  15. Now the tower in the middle of Rensselaer is also broadcasting on 800 mhz when it wasn't this morning. Interesting developments out here in redneckville.
  16. Yep, i'm seeing it too. My DSL was dead for about 12 hours the other day, so I had my GS3 tethered to my laptop and I was seeing the same thing.
  17. Yeah, I figured that much. I've gotten pretty good EVDO on 1900, over 2 meg, but from reading on here it sounds like LTE doesn't hold up quite as good on the fringe. Do you think a repeater with a decent outdoor antenna would be able to hold a solid LTE link at that distance with 1900, assuming equipment would be available for Sprint's LTE spectrum?
  18. Yep, that's what I said. I seen it up to -83 even. 5.2 miles exact.
  19. Yeah, it definitely said channel 476, band class 10.
  20. I was connected to: CH54XC974 41.0712863640881, -87.15767020363701, 5080-5266 W 400 N, Rensselaer, IN 47978, USA Right now, at work, i'm connected to a tower about 4 or 5 miles south in the middle of Rensselaer (CH60XC069)and it says Band Class 1.
  21. hmmm, according to that i'm on 800 mhz. It doesn't say anything about Cellular or PCS, but says Band Class: 10 Channel: 476. A quick google says band class 10 is SMR 800 Mhz? I'm connected to a site that's marked 3G complete on the map.
  22. Robert, you explained exactly what was keeping me from switching to VZW, since they have LTE coverage not far from me. I can imagine myself being the exact same way with constantly worrying about my data usage. I'd rather have slower data for the short-term versus fast data and an anxiety disorder in the long-term.
  23. I'm pretty sure it's just random.
