  1. Does anyone know what T-Mobile plans on doing with the Metro PCS small cells deployed throughout the Los Angeles area? Are they needed anymore? They are mostly omnidirectional antennas on utility poles connected to NextG (now Crown Castle) equipment. What I'm ultimately wondering is, if T-Mobile doesn't want them, can they be used by Sprint for B41?
  2. This happens a lot with the current version of SCP in the LA market on my M8. Sites that I know are Clear are still reported as being Sprint. I think I read in the SCP thread that it is an issue that is being worked on.
  3. I just got the FedEx envelope. I have to say, this is really effective marketing. I usually don't open junk mail, but a FedEx envelope stands out and screams for attention. Definitely a gimmick... but a gimmick that is targeted correctly for a higher ARPU market.
  4. Based on my personal observations, most of the remaining legacy sites in the San Fernando Valley, coastal regions and Hollywood areas fall into these categories: 1. Utility pole installations. (Wood poles, not transmission towers) 2. Flagpole/stealth sites. 3. University/College campuses. 4. DAS sites. My wild guess is the holdup for 1&2 may be equipment (panels) that can support all 3 bands since those setups need to be very compact. Backhaul is a different story. That's way more random.
  5. There are still a number of sites without upgraded backhaul on your route. That is probably a big factor. Downtown Los Angeles surprises me, it's been pretty speedy for me on B41.
  6. Nothing here in California is built for rain. Our roads are built out of papier-mâché. When it rains in Los Angeles, part of the road literally floats away.
  7. Any day now... Since I can't use that trademarked phrase that starts with an "S" and ends with an "N".
  8. I was with a co-worker who has AT&T and he put his call on speakerphone and it sounded like a mix of whale calls and screaming cats in an echo chamber. After a few seconds he just hung up -- even the NSA wouldn't have been able to make sense of it.
  9. Did this update get pulled? I never got notification of this particular update.
  10. I like the idea of iOS integration with OSX Yosemite, but Signal Check Pro keeps me on Android.
  11. Improvements keep on coming. Last month in my office in Burbank I used to get about 14 Mbps down, now I consistently get in the 50s. 3G only zones are becoming more scarce. When I do find myself in one, I always report it via Sprint Zone.
  12. San Bernardino County (SBC) has been the holdup. In late September an analyst from SBC posted on a P25 forum that the County was "Currently rebanding our 800MHZ fleet of 15000 subscribers and replacing our 15 SmartnetII+ systems with a 7.14 core." So at least they're doing something. I have been unable to get a hard date from anyone with SBC or Sprint.
  13. I agree about Santa Monica, especially north of Wilshire. Parts of 3rd St. are spotty too in the Promenade. I'm sure since you're a Premier Sponsor you've seen why B41 has been weak in Santa Monica. Adding B41 to Sprint sites should really help. And whenever B26 can be deployed, we should see significant in-building improvement.
  14. Having a Spark device made a night and day difference in my speeds with Sprint. I've been able to get 74 Mbps in several parts of L.A., most of the time speeds are in the mid 20s-30s -- a more than useable experience!
  15. How does Sensorly interpret this? In Los Angeles I spend most of the time on B41 as I'm driving around trying to paint some purple onto the maps. Am I taking away some deep purple by always being connected to B41 which is usable to a lower level of signal strength?
  16. What are you using for speedtests? As others have said, 128 down seems impossibly high without CA.
  17. I've noticed that too. In this case it didn't happen. The default LTE and Spark symbols remained as well. The call audio was very choppy. Something low level in the phone probably wasn't functioning properly.
  18. That's what I thought... Not to mention everything that would have to happen on the network side. I'm prepared to call what happened an "undocumented feature."
  19. Anyone else ever experience this with their M8: I placed a call on my hands free system and instead of "Sprint" appearing on the car's display, it displayed the PLMN "311 490". Now, it gets more bizarre. Instead of my phone showing it being connected to 1x, it still showed LTE. I swiped open SCP and it also displayed LTE during this call. Is it even remotely possible this was a VoLTE call? Or was it just some anomaly with the phone's OS? It has only happened once.
  20. On my HTC M8, SCP sometimes reports a PLMN of 310-120 when my engineering screens shows 311-490. I've noticed this while on certain Clear B41 sites in Los Angeles. I have version 4.261
  21. This article has some interesting information about how Softbank (including inherited networks) has built out a very dense 2.5 GHz TD-LTE network in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. http://www.fiercewireless.com/tech/story/paolini-tdd-innovation-ran/2012-01-02 Highlights include: • They use omnidirectional antennas instead of a multi-sector config. • 50-150 sites a square kilometer area • Distance between sites can be as low as 164 feet. • Base stations are centralized. • Look at the picture at the end of the article for a typical installation.
  22. Softbank uses W-CDMA a.k.a. UMTS, not to be confused with our CDMA. Among other significant differences, I believe W-CDMA uses a GSM core.
