We drove through Austin about a month ago, heading to Rochester. I really didn't have an issue until around 5 miles outside the city. All the towers in Albert Lea, Waseca, Owatonna, Mankato, Fairbault and Rochester have 800mhz radios, that why I was shocked that Austin didn't. It seems like a perfect place to use 800mhz service. I wonder why they don't have them installed?
-
Maybe it has something to do with running fiber to the site, I'm not sure. I was surprised that they don't have 800mhz radios on the tower though. Driving between Austin and Rochester can leave my phone starving for a signal.

Austin Panels, No 800 RRU though... hmm Austin Cabinets

I know for a fact the Austin site (American Tower) has had the new equipment installed since February, I find it hard to believe you won't be getting LTE soon, "unless they're having backhaul/Permit problems. I actually thought that would go live right after Albert Lea did. Albert Lea has one more tower to turn on, and that is out on the west side of Albert lea, in the chapeau heights area, on Kenny Peterson's farm.

I know fiber created a huge delay for the site below...It was winter at the time though, but it wasn't too bad. CenturyLink should have been there the week in December when they were doing the road bore to the site. Site history...MS03NP137 10/05/2012 - (eHRPD) 11/07/2012 - (cabinets delevered) 11/12/2012 - (RRU/panel assembly - 2 days) 11/26/2012 - (cabinets install - 2 days) 11/28/2012 - (RRU/panel install on tower - 300ft crane - 2 days) 12/21/2012 - (fiber road bore to site service road - 3 blocks - 3 days) (3 week delay) 12/26/2012 - (Inspection - Ericsson and American Tower trucks) 02/26/2013 - (run fiber from end of the service road to cabinets - Centurylink) (2 month delay) 03/23/2013 - (4G accepted, but not broadcasting yet) 03/28/2013 - (4G went live)

A Message from Robert. A thank you and a request for help

Sounds like you have a great wife Robert, just like I do. Our children are the first generation of "our kind", to be born without a tail or webbed feet; we're pretty proud of that. -
Potential Sprint rural buildout by 2016
Geekslayer replied to WiWavelength's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
Do you think this has anything to do with Sprint's roaming agreements with Alltel ? (Verizon now). I think the agreement between Sprint and Alltel, is one of the reasons Verizon purchased Alltel. I thought I read somewhere that the agreement expires in 2016. -
Relax, and enjoy your vacation Robert !

Waseca is ALIVE !!!!!

I can pickup a hint of 4G by Waseca with my EVO, but that signal is coming from the site in Owatonna by Fleet Farm. That has to be about 8 miles. I was kind of impressed that the phone picks it up. On the meridan exit I can get 6Mbps, and that distance is around 5 miles from the site.

I was in Mankato visiting my Daughter, and the coverage was pretty good. I was at Best Buy and got 33Mbps in the parking lot. If I had to guess, it's the site by Mankato Ford that must have went live. The one by Jaycee's park has been live for a while now.

Network Vision/LTE - Milwaukee Market (including Madison)
Geekslayer replied to sajanisch's topic in Markets
I live in southern Minnesota, and I was in the Milwuakee, Racine (Mt Plesant), and Ripon area over Labor day weekend for my daughter's soccer games. The speeds are about what I expected on Sprint's 3G network around 200-600kbps. I really didn't have a problem with signal either, and I was on the phone quite a bit. This area of the site is really focused on Sprint's LTE/Network vision deployment and questions pertaining to that. Which will be coming to your area at some point. btw..I had the GS3 for a short time, but I had signal problems in my area with it. I have the EVO LTE and it's working much better "for me". I loved the GS3 and would have kept it, but if you don't get a signal, you might as well have a WIFI tablet. Welcome to the site. -
Poor Call Quality on Verizon Galaxy S III
Geekslayer replied to strung's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
I tried out two GS3's, and couldn't get a good signal in "my area" with either of them. It's a great phone and wanted to keep it, but found that the radio wasn't the best, at least in my area. When driving to mankato, it was virtually zero bars when passing by janesville, and dropping calls. I have the EVO LTE now, and I have full bars when driving by jansville on hwy 14. For whatever reason the GS3 didn't like the tower in that town. -
Personally for me, I could live with a consistant 4-5Mbps. The 2GB limit on some carriers, and the pricing on Verizon's new plans don't justify the higher speed for me. (I'll wait 15 secs longer for that song, and save myself $65.00 a month). It's like buying a Lamborghini, and only having two gallons of fuel each month.

I would think that any phone that has the capability to roam on Verizon is capable of 800mhz voice/3g ? I guess I'm confused as well. Take it easy on me, I'm still trying to figure out why they took "Happy Days" off the air. 1. NV upgrades = immediate 800mhz Voice ?....1900pcs LTE? (On handsets that support it)

Hmmm...That reminds me, I need to pickup milk.

Network Vision/LTE - Boston Market (all of Massachusetts)
Geekslayer replied to brendan4t's topic in Markets
I was surprised that I got that 1200kbps too, I did the same test after work and it was only 80kbps. I was at a soccer game in Prior Lake tonight, and got around 150kbps, Mankato has horrible speeds too. I hope Sprint is commited in changing things around in southern Minnesota. I guess Verizon is very close to having LTE here. -

The zip code is 56093, Waseca. I just did tests this morning and I got 1300kbps download, and 263kbps upload at work. I did it 10 secs later from the same spot and got 360kbps download and 103kbps upload. So you're probably right. It's very inconsistant though. The tower is located on the south side of town on Hwy 13 (MS03NP137 I think).
