  1. Android bug report filed.. 'star' it so Google takes a look: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=63280 -Mike
  2. Oh I figured that was what you were getting at, but providers are referred to as carriers all the time, including on industry ads if my memory serves me correctly. Of course, repetition doesn't make it right... -Mike
  3. Is it bad practice to use them interchangeably when referring to the company that runs the wireless network you are connected to? -Mike
  4. The provider info will be displayed on the main screen if it is known for sure.. that is only possible on HTC devices right now. The pulldown notification takes a guess at it, but I don't think it is as reliable as I would like at the moment. It's something I am working on. I've been out of town for the past 5 days and have a lot going on this week, but I hope to find enough time to fix a few more bugs and get an update out. -Mike
  5. Oh I know that, I'm typing this on my N5 I was just referring to his comment about the sizes. The Max has a screen published to be almost an inch larger. -Mike
  6. Umm.. did that surprise you? Not sure what the point of your post is.. the whole point of the Max is its size. It's like saying you saw a Chevy Suburban, and commented that it was bigger than your Ford Fiesta... -Mike
  7. Well the N5 is just running plain vanilla Android, so there are no extras in the UI like you get with the G2. Of course you can root and customize it if you prefer. I am a longtime HTC Sense user (and fan), and I do miss some of those extras, but the specs of the new phone are keeping my EVO LTE at home. I also like that the N5 can be switched to another carrier with a simple SIM swap and reboot, and it will be on the leading edge of Android updates. I've never used the G2, but the general consensus is that it has better battery life than the N5. At first, my battery life seriously concerned me, but now it appears that it just took a couple of days to calibrate the battery meter. I'm probably an average user and I can get a full day of normal usage. I know that when you are in a poor signal area, battery life will always be shortened, but it seems like the N5 drains even faster than expected in that situation. I would say that battery life could become a concern for heavy users. They are very similar phones under the hood, it just comes down to personal preferences. Speaking generally based on what I have read, the G2 has better battery life, a custom UI, and IR remote control capabilities. The N5 is unlocked, has better RF performance, plain Android, and faster software updates. -Mike
  8. I opted for the Nexus 5 myself, but have been following this thread since the beginning.. I do not recall anyone experiencing the issues you have described. In fact, while others have given the N5 the edge in raw signal strength when compared with the G2, it reportedly gets better data transfer speeds. Unless you get it resolved before the end of the 14-day return period, I would swap it out for a brand new device while you still can. -Mike
  9. I don't think so.. I previously mentioned that my testing showed that the only difference between the two is that it changes the mode on the Radio Info screen from LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM/CDMA. Nobody has mentioned finding anything otherwise. -Mike
  10. http://www.s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4973-Nexus-5-Accessories I'm waiting for the Seidio Surface case.. had it on previous phones and loved it. Supposedly will be released any day now for the N5. -Mike
  11. I had previously posted about VVM.. I am now using Google Voice Lite (voicemail only, no extra features).. the full GV integration caused a long delay for my phone to ring or VM to pick up, among other things I wasn't a huge fan of. The voicemail-only option is working well for me so far. Textra is my choice for SMS/MMS. Start trying to get that SIM now, so hopefully you can have one in your hands by the time your N5 is delivered. -Mike
  12. Agreed.. I thought my EVO LTE was the max size I would find comfortable, but this is fine. As far as ART, I enabled it after about one day of usage but switched back to dalvik after a short time because several apps were incompatible at the time. Those apps have since been updated and I am using ART again.. the battery life is noticeably better. I have not noticed any drawbacks. Switching between the two is no big deal, it just takes a few minutes to rebuild the dalvik cache. I recommend ART, and if you run into force closes or other issues with apps that were previously stable, you can switch back until they are fixed. -Mike
  13. The default setting is LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL), but as a Sprint user you should not see a difference with the setting you chose. -Mike
  14. I agree, but I think for LTE it would do it anyway.. if you were roaming, the MCC-MNC should change, and I believe that is what they use to determine which carrier the data is associated with. I'm still not 100% convinced that Sprint is segregating each LTE band on its own MCC-MNC. It looks likely, but there are some known exceptions to this rule on accepted B25 sites in Tennessee, and Sprint has been hesitant to confirm the relationship between MCC-MNC and LTE band with me. -Mike
  15. Interesting.. mine has been on Global all along, and I have no issues with MMS on EV-DO, LTE, or Wi-Fi. -Mike
  16. I think AJ's point was that 1X is 3G... do you mean EV-DO? -Mike
  17. He mentioned his wife's Nexus 5 is on LTE inside the house though.. wouldn't you expect the G2 and N5 to have similar problems if the CSFB issue was affecting his area? -Mike
  18. I do not believe it matters. I previously mentioned that my testing showed that the only difference between the two is that it changes the mode on the Radio Info screen from LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM/CDMA. -Mike
  19. Well it doesn't immediately resolve your situation, but at least you know it's an issue with the network and not your device. So based on your experience in that area, SignalCheck shows LTE properly in Bowie, but not in DC? Just trying to confirm it is consistent with my observations. Thanks, -Mike
  20. That is because the phone is not reporting an LTE connection.. it is seeing a signal (and apparently connecting to it), but for some reason it is not reporting LTE as the active mobile data connection. I am away with family for the holiday, but next week I will be doing more digging with this. I do suspect is has to do with the CSFB issues since I have only seen it myself in areas where that is known to be causing a problem. -Mike
  21. If you have Pro, try enabling "Show hidden data" and see what happens.. I *think* this is CSFB-issue related. The phone is not reporting an LTE connection, but it is seeing signal strength. I have seen it myself a few times, still trying to narrow down the specific situations in which it happens. -Mike
  22. That is the first time I have spotted CQI in the wild! Let me know if the value changes, and what the range seems to be. Still no GCI or PCI though, that's disappointing.. Samsung is brutal. Regarding your earlier message, I agree with gnoj. It sounds like they are working on the sites you are connecting to.. wacky behavior is the norm. Typically it will only last a few days. Hopefully it's NV upgrades! -Mike
  23. Except that I see that exact same message when I punch in my very-much-not-Kansas number..? Even though it is listed as a "Kansas City market" outage, does that "ticketLevel=NATIONAL" flag attach it to everyone? I don't think a KC tower is my most used tower, since I've never been there.. -Mike
  24. Thanks for the tip, I will try reinstalling the app and hitting skip instead. -Mike
