  1. I don't have my N5 yet, but I wanted to say thank you and give Textra another plug -- I installed it on my EVO LTE yesterday, and love it. I had tried several third-party messaging apps in the past, and hated all of them because of all the bloat you mentioned. This is perfect.. and appears to work well with the inescapable iPhone group messages too. Love that you can fully customize each contact's notification settings as well. -Mike
  2. mrrogers1 is right. Google suddenly blocked access to airplane mode starting with Android 4.2, and that was the only method available for third-party developers to control the radio. I implemented an alternate method for rooted 4.2+ devices, but unrooted 4.2+ users are out of luck for now. The alternate method isn't completely reliable either, but without a 4.2+ device, it's been hard for me to test. I ordered a Nexus 5 last week, so hopefully it arrives soon and I can improve that. Google hasn't responded to the flood of developers asking for access back, and quietly blocked future comments on the issue back in May, so unfortunately I don't expect it to ever change. -Mike
  3. I would like to hear from others about the reported bulkiness of this case as well. And does anyone with the Ultra Fit case have issues with sharp edges? Quite a few Amazon reviews mention that. I have Best Buy's version of the Seidio Surface case (BB calls their line "Platinum") on my EVO LTE, and it's exactly what I hope to find for the Nexus 5. Seidio says it is coming, but ETA is an unconvincing "hopefully by the end of the month". I checked Best Buy on Friday and was told they have no N5 accessories yet, and no idea when they would start arriving. EDIT: I ended up grabbing a CruzerLite from Amazon, looks to be closest to what I want. Even if it isn't perfect, it will hold me over until I can check out a Seidio model. Just read that the company is basically a one-man operation and someone shared a private coupon code on SlickDeals that cost him $28k in just 3 hours.. ouch. -Mike
  4. Not sure I understand what you are asking or what 1xRTT sector you are referring to. The changelog and the app are both correct -- HTC devices should show the EV-DO sector ID if you enable it in the preferences. Post a screenshot if that will help explain. -Mike
  5. Nice write-up! I am still waiting for mine to arrive, but I was able to play with a couple of other N5's, and was impressed as well. I thought the screen was excellent and have no idea if the brightness was up or not. FYI, the black N5 has a completely different feel than the white one -- it is more of a matte finish, feels more like rubber than plastic. I thought it was a nice touch. I don't need or want my phone to be shiny anyway. -Mike
  6. Thanks. If you can get any error messages or logcat output to me, I can see if there's a way around it.. unless LG completely removed the screen, it's probably just a matter of permissions or creatively accessing it. Worth a try, at least. -Mike
  7. Just wanted to bring this link back to everyone's attention -- awesome job lilg, this is a great outline of the situation across all Sprint markets. I recommend anyone curious about the situation in their area to take a look at this. Perhaps this link can get added to the OP? -Mike
  8. Does the "Radio Info" menu option in SignalCheck Pro work? It's the same screen, but perhaps the app access it in a different enough way to get past the security block? -Mike
  9. That's certainly good news. I have seen several posts here and elsewhere about people not being able to connect to LTE in certain areas, then a short time later (varying from a few to several hours) suddenly connecting fine in those areas.. wonder if there is something else besides the eCSFB issue at play. I don't know the technicalities about how a device activates/registers/authenticates on a network, but on the surface it appears that for some reason there is a delay in the "Hey, this phone is active on Sprint" message making it to some portions of the LTE network. -Mike
  10. Yeah, but we know what it is really capable of.. that could certainly just be a much copied-and-pasted block that they put all over the place that hasn't been updated yet. Sprint hadn't advertised any LTE on 800 or 2500/2600 until the Spark announcement either, long after these materials were printed. At least 98% of Sprint customers have virtually no idea about tri-band anyway. Until TV commercials marketing Spark start popping up, that will not change much. As far as the original question, I have seen many confirmations of N5 usage on T-Mobile with a SIM swap, but I am not sure if those were ordered from Google Play or Sprint. -Mike
  11. All of that is invalid data, indicating that you do not have an active LTE connection. -Mike
  12. I interpreted it to mean the purple (4G only) sites on the sponsors map would cause problems ONLY if the vendors in that market do not match in the Legacy Vendors thread.. -Mike
  13. I believe it is because 1X and EV-DO both use the same CDMA radio. The radio is live, you just cannot always use more than one data path simultaneously. LTE radios are completely separate from 1X radios, so if a device is essentially shutting off one of them, there are no readings for my app (or anyone else's) to get. -Mike
  14. Didn't have a chance to see your posts until now.. sorry. As I was I was reading, that was what I was guessing that was the issue.. mobile location services, correct? Cellular/mobile location services need to be enabled on most phones in order for the app to properly receive the radio data. I am working on an automated warning prompt to detect if it's off to let users know about this. -Mike
  15. That's along the lines of what I thought, but was proven wrong. Evidence pointed to 311890 also being Band 41, but several people were seeing it on Band 25-only devices. Sprint might be (hopefully is) planning the rollout along these lines, but until I have better and more consistent evidence, I'm not ready to make it official in the app. -Mike
  16. Judging by the shipment dates on the Google Play site, the white 32 GB model had the most availability, so this doesn't seem too far fetched to me. -Mike
  17. From http://www.bestbuy.com/site/mobile-phones-promotions/gift-card-reserve-terms-conditions/pcmcat293000050013.c?id=pcmcat293000050013&type=category&id=pcmcat293000050013: "If you plan to purchase and activate your mobile phone at BestBuy.com using your registered phone number, you will receive an e-mail 3–5 days after handset activation with instructions on how to download your $50 Best Buy gift card." -Mike
  18. Just to clarify for you guys.. SignalCheck should "pick up" LTE on any band -- it will just not tell you which band is connected. What was removed in the last update was only the Band 41 indicator, because it was not as accurate as I hoped. Right now, the app will just indicate that you are connected to LTE, no matter if it's Band 4, 13, 25, 26, 41, or any other. tprevett, when you were connected to LTE, what did SignalCheck show instead? For the record, I have not seen any indication that anyone with a Nexus 5 has connected to any LTE other than Band 25. -Mike
  19. I actually did a lot of work on the MCC/MNC functions over the past couple of days; the code has been overhauled quite a bit. It is almost ready for testing, and as long as that goes smoothly, the next update will come soon. I'm well aware that this stuff is important for the tri-band devices and LTE roaming on the horizon.. if the device manufacturers would do everything consistently and follow the spec, this would all be easier! -Mike
  20. Ditto. They didn't know what to do without having a phone to scan into their system, but after a few minutes of head-scratching and peppering me with questions, the tech went out back and "found" an "extra" one. He was apologetic about not just handing it over, and I understand.. what we're asking for makes sense, but they apparently have no way to enter it into their computer to release it from inventory without it being attached to a phone. -Mike
  21. Hehe I was the one who turned that display one on for the first time! I got it activated but then it needed to download a 125mb software update over 3G so I walked away. Another customer in the store let me check out his.. I was impressed for the brief time I played with it. While in-store I did notice the One Max price tags were out with the upgrade price ($249 I believe?) expiring 11/21, so I guess they expect it on the shelf before then. -Mike
  22. Picked up a SIM at the corporate store in Burlington a couple of hours ago. They knew exactly what was needed and seemed like they had plenty. -Mike
  23. Sign up for UPS My Choice. It's free and gives you all sorts of features.. automated notifications when a package enters the system with your address on it, signature waivers, rerouting.. it's pretty good. -Mike
  24. Wow, Verizon really does not want the Nexus 5 on their network, eh? I plan to grab T-Mobile and AT&T SIMs without activating them to see if they will at least show a network connection. I realized that I might be able to test out my app on many networks by swapping out the SIM instead of keeping multiple test phones around for each carrier. No activation necessary, since I don't actually use data or minutes.. fingers crossed. This whole SIM thing is new to a long time CDMA-only guy. -Mike
  25. Hey one can only hope, right! I'm with you. Will be interesting to see what magic, if any, happens today... -Mike
