  1. Hmm.. well you're right, it does not look like there are Sprint sites of any kind in Mendota, nothing at all in that direction outside of Bristol. If you were in Bristol and that BSL was correct, I would expect the site to be north of Mendota, and that entire area appears to be a no-mans-land for Sprint. That SID is appropriate for your area, but it could be a mistake with the latitude/longitude at the site; I do not know if those bits are set manually or not, but one mistyped digit can mean a huge distance in latitude/longitude coordinates. Your best bet would be to try following the signal towards known sites in your area; it should become clear which physical site you are connected to, 1X RSSI values should get down into the 50's if you hit the sweet spot close to the site. -Mike
  2. It can't hurt to try, other than having to wait a few minutes on reboot for the cache to rebuild. I have seen posts by others on Sprint's community board that the voicemail indicator problem is still not resolved. I have been running 4.4.2 for about 16 hours and see hardly any play services usage. After upgrading, it might need to "do stuff" so give it a day or so to settle. If you're not suffering from severe battery drain, don't sweat it. -Mike
  3. Yep.. it is awesome! I'm way too cheap to actually pay for service on all of my test phones -Mike
  4. I saw this one on XDA tonight.. -Mike
  5. I saw posts on the Sprint Community board saying the same thing, so it's probably not just you. -Mike
  6. Too much signal is a great problem to have.. -Mike Sent from my smokin' N5
  7. Thanks.. if you still have the EVO, put them side-by-side so we can see how they compare! Even if it is deactivated, SignalCheck will still work. -Mike
  8. It's not great.. you were on the fringe of 1X and LTE signals when you took that screenshot. LTE signal is low quality when it is worse than roughly -113 dB. 1X and EV-DO are unusable beyond roughly -105 dB. You are just about at those limits.. remember, these are negative numbers, so closer to zero means stronger signal strength. SignalCheck simplifies it by displaying those red/yellow/green bars; as you can see, yours are only about 1/3 filled. You want to see the bars filled all the way to the right and showing green for the best connections. Robert had a nice article here about LTE signal strength and why the readings (RSRP) are not identical to 1X/EV-DO readings (RSSI). AJ had a more technical writeup about the scientific reasons behind it here. I suggest you read both if you want an education! -Mike
  9. Thanks, post a SignalCheck screenshot when connected to LTE if you can! Hoping everything works.. -Mike
  10. Looks like it was released on November 15, and includes "LTE UI Enhancements": https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/140205 -Mike
  11. I updated my earlier post here, with links to both flashable zips and my first impressions of 4.4.2. Basically, you'll lose root (easily regained), but nothing else breaks. Going to stay with the original 4.4 radio (baseband .17) for now, as it has been working awesome for me and I see no need to mess with it. Curious if any changes in 4.4.2 affected it though. -Mike
  12. I was also on 4.4.1 with the 4.4 radio (.17) and just flashed to 4.4.2.. I also lost root, but wi-fi, 3G, and LTE all work fine. No issues with Play Store or SMS either. Try updating your data profile. -Mike EDIT: I did not lose custom recovery (TWRP) either.
  13. The 4.4.2 software update is KOT49H. Baseband and kernel version are the same in 4.4.1 and 4.4.2, but some of the telephony files have changed so they did something to the radio, as well as other fixes. Looks like 4.4.1 was only officially pushed out as an OTA for some users, and now 4.4.2 is rolling out for far more users on the Nexus 4, 5, and 7; someone on XDA mentioned that 4.4.1 was a "beta" only pushed out as an OTA to approximately 1% of users. Here are the .zips you can flash in custom recovery if you do not want to wait for the OTA: 4.4 (KRT16M) -> 4.4.2 (53.9 MB) 4.4.1 (KOT49E) -> 4.4.2 (1.66 MB) I updated from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2; root was lost, but custom recovery remained intact (TWRP) so it was an easy fix. Baseband was not touched (makes sense). Cache rebuild was forced on startup. Haven't noticed any major changes from 4.4.1. -Mike
  14. Is there another N5 thread? Because if we were talking about 4.4.2 here, I missed it.. -Mike
  15. You can use the phone on Sprint without any SIM installed, you will just be unable to connect to LTE. -Mike
  16. I would definitely raise an eyebrow about that if it was my bank. I'm not overly worried about security, but I would expect online banking capabilities to be up to current technology standards. I am on 4.4.1 and 1X appears on the stock signal bars for me when appropriate. -Mike
  17. Because when Sprint announced Spark back in October, they specifically said the N5 would not be Spark capable until it receives a software update in early 2014. The devices that are officially Spark-compatible right now were announced as being that way from the beginning. -Mike

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

My EVO LTE got better LTE performance than that. Those ping times very high; I would guess that something else is going on. When I had LTE, I never had an issue with its performance. Of course, unless you're running a speed test, you're not really going to notice that 12mb is "slow"... -Mike
  19. I think I posted an update somewhere, but I can't find it now.. I stuck with K9, I'm liking it very much. Does everything I want in a mail app, and has some nice extras too, like dark mode. Never realized how much I preferred dark backgrounds, it is so nice since I am often using my phone in low light situations. Textra gets bonus points for that too. Just out of curiosity, what are you hesitant about? The N5 doesn't need any crazy shenanigans to root it.. -Mike
  20. A Google engineer recently mentioned it's not a good idea to clear data like that to try forcing updates, it breaks some other things. The article(s) have been making the rounds, here's one of them: http://www.talkandroid.com/185088-google-engineer-explains-why-you-shouldnt-clear-google-services-framework-data/ -Mike
  21. Your phone was set correctly, that is the proper setting for the EVO LTE. Your PRL probably isn't "wrong", but it likely does not have SMR (800) prioritized over PCS (1900). If you had a strong PCS signal, your phone might not have ever looked for an 800 signal. But that doesn't mean it wasn't there. FYI, you could load a custom PRL to bump 800 SMR to a higher priority. I hear that those who donate to this site and become a member might have access to a few of those.. -Mike
  22. No, the update shouldn't have broken anything in the app.. working fine for me, had no problems after updating. The address is associated with the 1X connection, so if you are on LTE, you won't see it. Make sure you have mobile location services enabled in your device Settings, and "1X Base Station Geocoding" enabled in Preferences > General Settings. -Mike
  23. You are probably hitting a site that has its time zone set wrong. Happened to me for awhile, there was one area that would consistently flip my phone to a time zone somewhere in Russia.. only thing you can do is disable the option to set your time zone through the network. -Mike
  24. Did you rollback to the old radio or did you keep the new one?
