  1. Thanks for the GV tip! I disabled it for now, but that will be helpful if I decide to go back to it. I also tried that reset code on my old device for good measure, but it doesn't do anything on the old phone and doesn't help the situation on the new one. -Mike
  2. Tried all sorts of combinations of this.. threw in some reboots and profile updates for good measure as well. Sent that Sprint address about a half dozen 20-second test messages over the past couple of hours. Tried the VVM APK from that XDA thread (5.3.4.28) as well as the version I had backed up (5.3.4.32). Tried them as user apps as well as installing them as system apps. No luck no matter what I do.. messages are just going to the "regular" dial-in Sprint voicemail. I never get any provisioning messages at all.. but same end result as you. Ditto. Wondering if Sprint has the N5 flagged as incompatible with VVM on the network side. Going to try contacting them next, although I don't have high hopes for success. -Mike
  3. No, that's a very good hunch. Other than JossMan's oddity, 311-490 has only been seen on Band 41 connections. That's why I'm trying to figure out if the sites in his area are just configured wrong, or if 311-490 isn't going to be exclusive to B41. Sprint seems to want to keep it a secret though! -Mike
  4. Do you use it? Some of those reviews are scary.. they spam your callers about the app after they call you? And it might wipe out all contact pics? Not sure that's worth it. I'd be ticked if all my contact pics got reset from a voicemail app, it shouldn't even have access to modify them. -Mike
  5. I saw a lot of discussions about that, but never experienced it myself. I wonder if Sprint enables/disables VVM when you activate certain devices, and the N5 wasn't on that list when it first came out. I have that enabled, it's definitely the easiest way to access messages. But I'd rather just have them all on one screen. I also miss the ability to keep messages marked as new, it helped me remember who I owed a return call to. And I have texting set to go through my own app, yet they are all logged on Google's site anyway.. I'm not paranoid, its just weird that you can't fully disable extra features like that. I think GV is an awesome concept and see how it can be very useful for some people.. I just don't need it. Yes, but I had a slightly newer version, 5.3.4.32. Maybe that other version will work, can't hurt to try.. but like digiblur mentioned, I think part of it is on the network side. -Mike
  6. Heads up, non-sponsors! After less than one day of using my black Cruzerlite Androidified case for my Nexus 5, I decided to go with a hardshell version instead; this one is a TPU (like soft rubber) material. The case is in mint condition, as it was only on the phone for a few hours while I was around the house. Fits snug, looks good. So, I'm giving it away to help support S4GRU! The first PM I receive from a member who makes either their first-ever donation to S4GRU (let's say a minimum of $25) or bumps themselves up to Premier Sponsor (at least $25) gets it shipped to them for free! The clock is ticking.. I will be heading out of town Tuesday night, and would love to send it before I go. -Mike
  7. I think I know why "null" is appearing on eHRPD/EV-DO connections and am working on a fix. I'm now seeing it on my Nexus 5 as well, so that gives me a convenient testbed. My hunch on the engineering screen is that it's not actually showing you the true MCC-MNC of the connection, but the MCC-MNC which is programmed as the "home" ID. I always used to regard engineering screens as the holy grail, but between spelling errors and known incorrect data (both of which persist through multiple updates and device releases), they don't seem to be any more or less reliable than any third-party app. I'm comfortable saying that SignalCheck is completely accurate because I know the source of the data is the Android system itself. And as I see errors, I implement methods to filter them out instead of displaying something I know is not correct. SignalCheck accesses three different Android routines to check the MCC-MNC, and in your case, all three reflect 311-490. Also, in your example, 311-490 is just some random number.. it happens to be another MCC-MNC assigned to Sprint. So it is very plausible that the site is broadcasting that data, whether it is a programming mistake or intentional. Still trying to get Sprint to answer that one for me.. -Mike
  8. In addition to what Grimloch said, it is also accessible from the app drawer: Google Settings > Search > Voice -Mike
  9. There are over 100 entries for Cricket in my database.. this one was just incorrect. I looked at the original sources and some were Cricket, but more were AT&T, so I had listed it as AT&T. It has been changed to Cricket for the next app update. Unless they change the name to specifically include AT&T, I have no plans to change it. -Mike
  10. I did (see my voicemail comments a few posts before yours).. restored from my EVO LTE with Titanium Backup. The app will open, and I can see my old voicemails.. but it does not do anything for new voicemails. Google Voice appears to be the only comparable option for now, but I'm not a huge fan of it. -Mike
  11. I have an adjustable ProClip mount in my car, it is the best car mount I have ever used. It uses pressure and adhesive tape to attach a vehicle-specific mount at a certain driver-accessible location (mine is to the right of the radio), and you connect that with the mount of your choosing. I got a universal swivel holder so I can drop in any device, case or not, and it will always fit. This is the best mounting system I have ever used; the only drawback is that it is not portable. You can remove it easily when you sell your car, but it's not something you will actively switch between vehicles. I also have a Mountek nGroove, I believe someone mentioned that earlier. It slides into your CD slot, and a tension screw keeps it in place. It has a similar universal adjustable phone holder. I also have their nGroove Snap, which is very similar but uses a magnet instead of an adjustable holder. It holds ok, but if you have a heavy phone and hit a big bump, it might slide. Both of these work well as long as your CD slot is in a good spot for it. -Mike
  12. GCI values could be unique -- I don't have enough knowledge to confirm that they are 100% unique, but I think it is a safe bet to say they are unique for each wireless provider. As has been mentioned elsewhere, the first 3 characters appear to identify the market, next 3 identify the site, last 2 identify the sector (typically 01, 02, 03). PCI is not unique, as the range is only 0-501, but each specific cell sector is assigned a value. Some markets have confirmed specific offsets between each sector, i.e. a value of 169 between each. When you see a GCI, the PCI you see is associated with that GCI. You should always see the same GCI and PCI paired up together. TAC is a fairly new addition to the app; I do not know much about it and haven't been monitoring it enough to comment on what it represents. I am working on adding a feature to SignalCheck that logs sites as well as the ability to add your own "notes" to a site. Also experimenting with a system to upload logs to a central server to help correlate IDs, but all of this is still in its infancy and have no idea when it will be ready. -Mike
  13. Two rather annoying nuisances I have noticed in my first week: 1) Lousy voicemail support. I haven't found any versions of visual voicemail that work on the N5, but even the "regular" Sprint voicemail isn't working right. It took 2 days for the voicemail indicator to pop up on my status bar, and now that I have listened to it and deleted it, it won't go away. I rebooted and hopped between 3G/LTE/Wi-Fi several times before and after getting the voicemail. I started using Google Voice, but has far more features than I want, and has increased the number of rings it takes for voicemail to pick up, even when I immediately decline the call on the device despite having nearly all of the "extras" disabled. 2) Strange issue with the stock Android e-mail application.. is anyone else able to set the display name on outgoing messages? I have tried setting up two separate IMAP accounts, but it puts my e-mail address where you would expect my name to be. No matter what I put in the "Your Name" field during the initial setup or in the settings menu after, it does not seem to use it. -Mike
  14. Thanks for the heads up Coz, and the reply digi.. I will take a look at the database tomorrow. It has over 4,200 entries gathered from many different sources, so I'm sure there are plenty of similar errors in small clusters here and there. It's very easy for me to fix, the hard part is confirming what the correct provider is. -Mike
  15. Device: Nexus 5 Area: All over Eastern Massachusetts, from NH border south to Foxboro, including downtown Boston, Rt. 128, and I-93. LTE: Band 25 nearly everywhere, signal held much better than my EVO LTE. No issues picking up or losing connections. No differences if B41 or B26 are enabled. No issues handing off to different towers while driving at highway speeds. -Mike
  16. Hmm.. thanks, this is the first report I have had of this. Samsung must have changed something. In the version in testing now, I have completely changed the the system shortcuts anyway. I (finally!) discovered how to directly access the most useful menus on Samsungs, so hopefully that will work better. I will make a note to check with you after its released to see how its working. -Mike
  17. Just a shot in the dark here.. did you turn on ART, or are you still using the dalvik compiler? Some apps have issues with ART, maybe Sensorly is one of them. That could explain why some users have issues but others don't. -Mike
  18. No rice krispies on my Nexus 5 calls with the S800... -Mike
  19. I have seen that several times on my EVO LTE over the past few months. Didn't seem to matter who was calling me or where I was. Most prevalent was calls from my wife while she was out and about, spending my money somewhere; she has an iPhone on Sprint. No Airave involved in the mix at all. Hasn't happened in a month or so, but it was annoying. -Mike
  20. Good question.. I have not heard much on the developments on the Samsung side of CM things. I know lordsutch was involved with getting things going for HTC devices, but I assume that doesn't easily translate into something useful for a Samsung. Make a nandroid backup, throw CM on your phone, and send us a screenshot! -Mike
  21. Ha.. when I get my magic wand back from Hogwarts, I will be sure to wave it around and get that in the app! Hmm.. maybe I shouldn't have said the suggestion box was always open! I will put it on the list for you. I can't really add any more notifications at the moment due to the way they are coded, but I plan on tackling that issue in the future anyway. I know, I know.. that's coming with a re-design! It's half-done, but is taking a ton of work. I need to make sure all of this other stuff is stable before I throw major new changes into the mix. I should have been an iPhone developer.. one phone, one ROM, man they have it easy! -Mike
  22. Ha, wish I read this earlier.. thank you for confirming CSFB is used by those carriers, had a question about that about a little while ago (Robert quickly saved the day!). I had actually noticed the "stuck" -85 dBm signal in the GSM section myself and included a fix in the beta update I pushed out last night, so now those folks are now curious as to why their signal has "disappeared" while connected to LTE. EDIT: Now that I read your post again, are you saying that nearly all GSM devices will only show one connection at a time, i.e. "GSM" or LTE? Never both? So the secondary GSM icon is essentially pointless? Or is there SVLTE support somewhere? -Mike
  23. What if we only allowed links to external sites for things that members are selling elsewhere? Considering the nature of this forum, Swappa would be a good example of this.. nothing about the transaction is done through S4GRU, just a 'heads up' that something is available elsewhere. I believe XDA shut down their marketplace threads and formed a formal partnership with Swappa. Just a thought. I can certainly understand how this could be a road that S4GRU would not want to go down. -Mike
