  1. Astute thinking. That is the mind of a scientist, folks. Isolate the variables, then test them one by one. AJ
  2. No. Welcome to early September. We reported that a good six weeks ago. The Nexus 5 is basically a run of the mill 3GPP handset that has band 0/1/10 CDMA2000 and band 41 TD-LTE added to support Sprint. What people do not seem to understand is that very few 3GPP handsets support SVLTE. They think simultaneous voice and data in an LTE capable handset means SVLTE. But in most cases, it does not. AJ
  3. The FCC would have noticed what? The FCC is not Consumer Reports. As long as the device conforms to certain regulations, it receives authorization. AJ
  4. That seems unlikely. The tri band LTE handsets thus far use physically separate band 41 TD-LTE antennas. The just revealed tri band Galaxy S4 variant could be the exception -- if its antenna diagram is accurate. AJ
  5. "Well, we're gonna get that, for sure. Maybe not this time, but the next time, right?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR8A3T6sPzU AJ
  6. People just do not talk on the phone as much anymore. I can go a month using no more than five minutes of voice airtime. Regardless, we have been told that it is too expensive/complicated to include band 41 TD-LTE and SVLTE because of the multiple RF paths involved. We disagree with that simplistic assessment, but so far, it has proven accurate. If that changes in the long run, we will let you know. In the meantime, if you must have SVLTE, then you have numerous strong options: HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, Motorola X, etc. AJ
  7. Uh oh. Motorola apparently has some "enginerrs," too. AJ
  8. Ah, some LG "proirity" to go along with Samsung "enginerring." AJ
  9. Oh good, an Airave thread. We have such a shortage of these. AJ
  10. The engineering screens appear to be the same as in the Optimus G. No big surprises there. AJ
  11. Is the band priority screen accessed via ##DATA#? AJ
  12. Hmm, so the phone info screen is there in the background, but something is blocking access to it. That is roughly what I was expecting, as I could never get *#*#INFO#*#* to work with the Optimus G. The benefit of the phone info screen is that a menu contained within can allow you to set the radio stack to LTE only, LTE/CDMA1X only, etc. Since the screen does appear in the background, I imagine that a workaround can be found. AJ
  13. Well, when will we be seeing a full spread of engineering screen porn? Start with the usual suspects: ##DEBUG# and *#*#INFO#*#*. In this case, 1080p screenshots are fine if you do not have time to resize them. AJ
  14. And that was last call. Thanks for coming, everybody. If you want to attend the after party, head on over to the users thread. http://s4gru.com/ind...2-users-thread/ AJ
  15. As I indicated yesterday, a users thread needs to be started. Koi, are you going to do the honors? AJ
  16. Does it have Wi-Fi? Does it have Wi-Fi? You have to tell us RIGHT NOW! AJ
  17. Assuming the AT&T-Leap transaction is approved, Aio is reportedly going away in favor of keeping the Cricket brand running. So, we may have to update our rules to prohibit too much chirping in our threads. AJ
  18. You must be buying cheap Windows laptops. The Apple MacBook lines have had 5 GHz built in for years. AJ
  19. I have posted a comment to my article on The Wall. It pegs the likely chipset contained within the Galaxy S4 tri band. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-356-teaser-samsung-galaxy-s4-2-3/ AJ
  20. Doing some further digging through the FCC OET authorization docs, I came across a reference to a 1890 MHz CPU clock frequency. That seemingly points to the same higher binned 1.9 GHz Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T/APQ8064AB) found in the original Galaxy S4. AJ
  21. Yeah, I am thinking southern poverty. Unlimited data is problematic in areas with impoverished populations who will not or cannot also budget for wired broadband. Smartphones become their de facto laptops. AJ
  22. Well, if the LG G2 thread wants to just gab on and on, it may be dismayed to know that a tri band Samsung Galaxy S4 made itself known today. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-356-teaser-samsung-galaxy-s4-2-3/ AJ
