  1. Does anyone remember where on the device the update file is stored before installation? I never installed ZVE because there was nothing in it that I was willing to lose root for; but it is a big file and I wouldn't mind clearing out some space. Thanks in advance, 86
  2. Hey all - Been too swamped with work and holidays to peruse this fine site as much as I'd like. Just wanted to mention that I caught some B41 while at the Norton Shores (near Muskegon) Home Depot a few days back. About 14 Mbps down with about -105 RSRP. Noticed some B41 in other places here and there, but didn't have the time to check it out.
  3. I have the update downloaded, but have not installed it. If someone would remind me where the update file is stored, I can post it to my Dropbox account for those of you who are getting tired of waiting.
  4. Signalcheck is an app? http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3060-signalcheck-android-app-to-monitor-your-2g3g4g-lte-signal-strengths/ Prepare to spend a little time reading!
  5. The encouraging thing is that both 3G and DSL speeds are noticably faster than what I've seen in the past (though I don't watch either of them as closely as 4G). Could be a fluke, but the speeds I posted above were observed at peak time.
  6. No, it's not weird - I'm just special Good catch, I got them all bass-ackwards
  7. Local DSL provider (Iserv): 0.64Mbps up / 0.34 Mbps down / ping 49 ms Band 24 (@ around -112 dBm): 2.13 Mbps up / 0.22 Mbps down / ping 87 ms 3G (@ around -83 dBm): 0.54 Mbps up / 0.23 Mbps down / ping 96ms DSL is the *only* option (other than satellite) for broadband in my neighborhood. The local ISP was the only one that would offer DSL to my house at the time, and they warned me not to expect top of the range speeds, as I was at the limit of distance from the CO. I signed up anyway, and have had excellent service from them. The funny part is, they resell service over AT&T's line, who had told me that DSL was unavailable in my area; 18 months later, I started to get spammed relentlessly by AT&T, wanting me to switch to *their* DSL . Just one more reason to hate AT&T.

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Software update for the EVO 4G LTE. Nothing fancy, just a security update. No bump up the Android ladder. Showed up on my wife's phone, but not mine - probably because I'm on the last semi-official update, and she isn't. Not very big, just a little over 16 Mb.
  9. Yeah, actually I have been noticing this the last month or so. I've been chalking it up to some app or another not playing nice, but I don't have any particular suspects yet. Doesn't happen often enough to spot any trends, but it does seem to be happening a little more frequently lately.
  10. This may be entirely coincidental, but my wife and I spent most of last week in the Baraboo, WI area (went to the Circus Museum, among other things). Got back home late Thursday night, and Friday afternoon she complained that her EVO 4G LTE was still on Wisconsin time. A full power cycle was required to get back on EDT. My LG G2 had no issue, so far as I noticed. I'm pretty sure there is no way her phone held on to a tower in the Central Time Zone for that long... Or heck, maybe it has to do with these solar storms heading our way
  11. Well, the avatar seems appropriate. After all, I came to S4GRU hoping to Get Smart... Sadly, now it's time to go to work.
  12. i'll definitely take a close look at this device when my wife comes due for an upgrade in a few months. She is by no means a power user (Facebook is about as powerful as she gets), but she'll appreciate the camera and I'll appreciate the price . As always, the make-or-break point will be real-world RF performance.
  13. I am rooted, but stock. I haven't installed any Xposed mods yet, but thanks for the heads-up. I haven't had any problems with Quick Remote, either under Dalvik or ART (or is Qremote a different app?). Then again, I rarely get to watch my TV - I just get to pay the bills . But so far, I can't say much one way or the other regarding ART.
  14. So, I got the ZVD update about the end of July, and switched over to ART after a couple of days. I haven't had any issues that I can put down to ART, but I haven't noticed any particular benefits, either. Of course, this phone was pretty zippy even without ART . Anybody else make the switch to ART? Problems, opinions, thoughts?
  15. Done - I think! First tweet ever from me; I usually just use Twitter to check traffic and weather. Couldn't figure out how to re-tweet the Spanish version, though.
  16. Haven't seen it yet either. Not too concerned; the most interesting thing would be Knock Code, and that isn't very important to me. Also, waiting to see what issues people get with this update.
  17. ZVC is the most recent version (Android 4.4.2). Not sure why, but the Sprint page you linked to was last updated on 21 March, which was a week or so before ZVC started rolling out. You'd think Sprint would have updated the page by now.
  18. Good point. I've actually had the paid-for version of Screen Off and Lock on my last couple of devices, but now I've given it up in favor of knock-off. I personally don't have a problem with it only working in the notification area with Nova; I just wanted to mention it because other users have complained about it.
  19. Am I missing something here? From the illustration above, the Mini is only about a millimeter smaller in both height and width than the G2. Since when is that considered "mini"? And how does that result in screen shrinkage from 5.2" to 4.7"? Did they maybe go with a wider bezel for structural reasons? I've not really heard any complaints about the G2 being especially fragile compared to similarly-sized phones. Or is it the reduced RAM and storage capacity that results in the "mini" moniker?
  20. Hi Terry - I'm a little late to the party, as I had eye surgery a little while ago and it has cut into my forum-reading time (as well as minor things like work and family time ). I was pretty much exactly in your shoes a few months ago, switching from a HTC Evo to either the G2 or the N5. I went with the G2 in early April. To answer your first question: I also live in a fringe area with a relatively weak signal, and RF reception is very important to me (and band 41 is not yet live in my area). I've been very pleased with the LTE performance of the G2 so far; it seems to grab a signal better than the Evo, and hold onto it longer (I've had good results with a signal as weak as -118 dBm). Some people have complained that the G2 holds onto LTE too long, refusing to switch to 3G even when LTE is unusable, but I have yet to experience that myself. Besides the radio, I pretty much have to agree with everything that Ascertion said above (post #4985). As for your second question, I had very little trouble adjusting to the LG UI from Sense, although I did miss some of the Sense widgets. And I was just getting to like Blinkfeed, which I had on my phone for just a few weeks before moving on to the G2. But honestly, after I got the G2 set up the way wanted it, I switched back to using Nova Prime as my regular launcher. The biggest difference (for me , anyway) was losing the knock-off feature, which works differently in Nova - you can only tap the notification bar, not just anywhere on the screen. Knock-on works just fine under Nova.
  21. I have to agree with much of your post - some pretty good insights there. I don't expect this to directly impact me very much. My usage for my last billing was just 3 gigs, and that was exceptionally high for me, due to having a new phone that required a fair amount of data traffic to get set up the way I like it (and generally playing around with my new toy ). But I do find myself getting irked at the somewhat schizophrenic behavior of Sprint (and the rest of the wireless industry in general). I have no fewer than three cloud backup apps on my phone, all of which came pre-installed on one phone or another, and one or two apps which also provide cloud storage functionality, all encouraging increased data usage. I've got music apps (Google Music, Sprint Music Plus, Tune-in Radio, Soundhound), video apps (YouTube, Google TV and Movies, Sprint TV and Movies), games from Sprint and Google, plus apps wanting to automagically upload my photos and videos to the cloud - all of which came pre-installed on my phone! That's not counting apps that I installed on my own. And yet the carriers have conniptions over excess data usage! I personally don't care to stream music or videos (I use Tune-in Radio a couple hours a week, tops, when Bob and Tom are out of broadcast range); I prefer to keep my music and movies on the device (YMMV). But it's getting harder and harder to find a phone that has an SD card slot anymore, further encouraging people to stream and use more data. It just seems like all the wireless providers (not only Sprint) are constantly saying "Look at all the great stuff you can do on our phone/service*"! (Except we'd rather you just paid us and didn't actually do all this great stuff).

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Well, duh! That's why I haven't seen it - I'm on the 1.4 release. I'll still have to check my wife's Evo when she comes back from her trip though, she hasn't updated yet (and probably won't).
