  1. Hope I'm not to late to the game, but you might want to try enabling/disabling (as applicable) the Qualcomm Izat app if you still have it on your phone. I remember reading somewhere (sorry - don't remember where, so no linky; it was before I got my G2) that some people's GPS issues were related to that app. Worth a shot, anyway.
  2. Hadn't known about this, but just downloaded the app. Photosphere looks interesting, but I don't how often I'd use it. I"m not really much of a special-effects guy; just a basic camera with the occasional macro shot works for me.
  3. I've had my G2 over a week now. Still haven't told my wife about the IR blaster remote. She's starting to seriously consider the possibility of poltergeists in the house. I'm a bad, bad man...
  4. Holy crap, that's a lot of work! No wonder it took a while! Looking forward to seeing it on the Play Store.

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Besides fixing the data roaming issue, the only other change that I'm aware of is that the problems with trying to install the RUU from Windows 8/8.1 machines has been resolved. Installed mine from a Win7 machine, so I can't confirm that personally.
  6. Thanks Mike - Unchecking/rechecking the option seems to have done the trick I suspect that all of the changes, updates, deletions and additions I've been doing to this new phone probably had something to do with it. All seems good now. -Jim
  7. Mike, Speaking of auto-start, I just upgraded my new LG G2 to Kit-Kat last night and notice that SCP doesn't auto-start (have re-started half a dozen times for various reasons). Not sure if this is a Kit-Kat issue or just my phone. Looking forward to the new version. Thanks for all the hard work!
  8. Pulled the trigger on a new G2 last night, relegating my Evo to semi-retired status. The G2 came with the Spark update out of the box, but no Kit-Kat, and no update available yet. Bummer; I was hoping to update to Kit-Kat before I moved all my apps and data over No particular issues yet, but I haven't had a great deal of time to play with it - mostly just removing the bloatware and setting up the basics. Seems like that beautiful screen is a bit of a smudge magnet; I may have to rethink my "no screen protectors" policy. No Spark in my area, but the G2 seems to pull in LTE better than the Evo, and speeds seem a bit faster as well. I'm looking forward to learning more about this phone - once I forget everything I know about HTC and Sense
  9. Found the charger for that Kyocera in a box of junk (er, I mean my stash of important spare electronic components that may come in mighty handy some day) in the basement. Had it on the charger all night; it still powers up, but shows no bars and any data that was left on it is long gone.
  10. Yeah, with that Kyocera smartphone I was the envy of my geek friends. Both of them
  11. Agreed. Even without the restocking fees, it just seems like a crappy thing to do. Don't want to abuse the system. It would be nice if they had a "loaner" that people could try for a few days before committing the bucks on a phone that may not suit their needs. Yeah, I know; not realistic
  12. Details are fuzzy, but I don't recall that it was too expensive (and I was kinda tight for cash at the time). But they do say that memory is the second thing to go...
  13. I found my very first smartphone in the back of a closet a while back, and thought it might be fun to take a stroll down memory lane. We tend to all go ga-ga over the latest and greatest phone, but who has the oldest one? I'll start the bidding with this... From late 2001, if memory serves. It may not be Android, iOS or Nokia, but it says smartphone right on the case How long before someone comes up with an older smartphone?
  14. jefbal99 and maxsilver... Thanks for your input, guys! I can see I'm going to have a tough choice to make in the next few weeks. All three phones have pluses and minuses to consider; kinda wish I could take all three home for a week and just let them duke it out .
  15. Hey All, Posting this here because I'm interested in a more local perspective. I'll be in the market for a new phone soon, and one of my priorities will be RF performance. Specifically comparing the LG G2, the Nexus 5 and the HTC M8. I travel a lot for work, but the bulk of my time is spent near the I-94 corridor (between Battle Creek and St. Joseph) or the US-131 corridor (between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids), with occasional excursions outside that range (Jackson/Lansing areas). I'm looking for local experiences/ recommendations for any of the three phones listed above, particularly with the tri-band performance or issues. There are obviously other differences between them, but those are more easily judged by a hands-on examination in the store. Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions.
  16. Yeah, I love my EVO, but the RF performance drives me crazy sometimes, since I live pretty much at the fringe of all things cellular. Would like to have a phone that gets a decent signal for a change.
  17. Anybody else have any RF observations to report. That will probably be the biggest factor in my decision. Form looks great, but function trumps all in my book

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hi skid71, I've been gone for a week on vacation, followed by being buried by all the work that didn't get done while I was gone, so I don't know if you've solved your problem or not. If not, it sounds less like a tower issue and more of a synch issue or possibly a location issue. There are two places to check your settings: Tap the weather icon > touch the three dots > touch Settings. I have "Update when opened", Scheduled synch" and "Auto detect my location" selected (with my update schedule set to every three hours). The second place is Settings >Accounts & synch > Weather. I have "Update when opened" and "Weather" selected, with the update schedule again set for every three hours. These settings work fine for me. Something else that may help is to clear your cache partition if you didn't do so when you updated to 4.3. Many times odd or intermittent faults can be cleared up by doing this. You can clear your cache (does not wipe any data on the phone) by doing the following (to be safe, be sure you have a pretty full battery charge): 1) Go to you Power settings and make sure Fast Boot is not selected. 2) Power your phone off. Wait a minute or so after the screen turns off to make sure the phone is completely off. 3) Hold the Volume Down button, and press the power button while continuing to hold Volume Down. 4) Let your phone do its thing; eventually you will end up at the HBOOT menu. Navigate to "Recovery" using the volume up/down buttons, and select it (Recovery) with the power button. 5) Your phone will appear to restart and eventually show a red triangle with an exclamation point on a picture of a black phone. When you see this, hold down the Volume Up button and press the power button while continuing to hold Volume Up. 6) Again, let your phone do its thing until it ends up at another menu. Navigate to "wipe cache partition" using the volume buttons and select it using the power button. 7) When the wipe is complete, navigate to the "Reboot Phone" option and select it with the power button. Clearing the cache partition after an update seems to help with a lot of seemingly unrelated software glitches. I apologize if I seem to be hand-holding a little much here, but I don't know how familiar you are with these things and it's safer to assume very little knowledge than go the other way .

Well, that would explain why I've not seen a number like that on my EVO before... Hey! Aren't you supposed to be working on Signal Check? j/k

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

To be clear, the Sprint Zone dashboard shows a "Update Now" message for the device software; but when I tap on it, I'm told that my phone is up to date.

Still not sure what software that refers to, but mine is also JSS15Q, and is up-to-date.

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Not sure what software you are asking about. Phone software is 4.13.651.3 Sprint Zone is 4.6.34 (just updated today). No idea what JSS15Q is.

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

I'm tending to agree with you. I've had no other overheating issues so far, other than that first day, and that was probably a lot of background services getting caught up. The phone definitely seems to hold on to LTE better than before; speeds seem a little faster too, but there are too many variables involved with that to be sure yet. Battery life seems better, but it's hard to be sure as I've been using the phone more than usual tweaking settings and setting things up the way I like them. Can't decide if I like Blinkfeed or not, I'll have to give it a few days more. Seems like the only way to enable USB debugging is via Sync Manager, which is kind of annoying.
