  5. In Sprint native coverage, no. In Shentel coverage, possibly. Robert
  6. Sprint is no longer expanding 4G WiMax service. That deployment stopped in early 2011. Sprint is now only deploying 4G LTE, which is not supported by the HTC EVO 4G. Only LTE device support the LTE network. Robert
  7. There is so much conflicting information out there on whether you voice minutes on an Airave count against your usage on your plan or not. You will need to contact Sprint for a definitive answer. Sorry for the delay in my response, I was on vacation. Robert
  8. Sounds great. Looking forward to it Please provide site locations, so we can compare to schedule maps. Robert
  9. La Quinta is in the Riverside/San Bernardino market. Sprint will be adding 4G LTE in the area. Sprint is actually taking LTE over its entire 3G foot print. We have a schedule article for your market here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-302-inland-empireriversidesan-bernardino-network-visionlte-deployment-schedule-update/ Robert Calabasas is in the LA Metro market which is an active Network Vision/LTE deployment area. It looks like one of the sites in your area will be complete in early Fall, but the other Calabasas sites will not be complete until early in 2013. In our Sponsor section, we keep maps of all completed Network Vision sites. And in our Premier Sponsor section, we have detailed schedule maps. You can follow this link for more info about becoming a sponsor: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1195-information-about-s4gru-sponsorship-levels-and-how-to-become-a-sponsor/ Robert
  10. And that is a fair point. The last device road map I saw showed both TD-LTE 2600 and LTE 800 devices would not come on the market until Q2-2013. However, the initial LTE 1900 devices this year beat the original road map by 60 days. So it's possible they may release a little early again. Since I have frequently seen the Q2-2013 date for LTE 2600 devices, I'm not very optimistic that the new iPhone will support it. If it does support it, it most likely was added for China Mobile, and Sprint/Clearwire just win by default. Robert
  11. As Scott points out above, we do allow negative comments. But not rants. Negative comments need to have a point and be constructive. We have a stated mission and rules. If we allowed the incessant rants to pollute our pages, you probably wouldn't have learned anything from our site. You would have had to sort through too much garbage to get to meaningful content. Our members want to read useful information, not people's rants. Robert
  12. Scott is correct. Upgrades shown at network.sprint.com are network maintenance upgrades being handled by Ericsson. Sprint contracts out their network management to Ericsson. Ericsson is doing these network maintenance upgrades with adding additional voice carriers, 3G EVDO carriers and additional T1 backhaul. So when you see "data speed upgrade", really Ericsson is installing one or two additional T1 lines to help increase average speeds at the site. In some rare cases, it may include AAV backhaul in lieu of T1 lines. Robert
  13. It will cover only the Baltimore market, not the DC market. The DC market will launch a little later. Baltimore article: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-266-baltimore-network-visionlte-deployment-schedule-update/ DC article: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-271-washington-dc-network-visionlte-deployment-schedule-update/ Robert
  14. The second round has started. Work is underway in many second round markets. So even if it has started now, it would still be Second Round. Additionally, in this article, we discuss that work will start in August. The work that I am referring to is antenna/panel installs and coax runs. However, base cabinet installs are likely occurring now. We are working from detailed Network Vision schedules that we have obtained. If things are as you report, Minnesota would be the first market ahead of schedule. Robert
  15. I don't like to refer to them as band-aid fixes anymore. I had an Ericsson employee approach me and say that is inaccurate. It's better to call them network maintenance upgrades. He explained that calling them band-aid fixes or temporary fixes made it sound like they were not permanent. He said that in legacy sites, the additional voice and EVDO carriers are now permanent in the fact that when Network Vision comes to the site, the amount of voice and EVDO carriers will be the same, carrying right over. They will not be reduced. So the additional capacity added is permanent. Of course, additional T1 backhaul will be temporary in nature. However, it is being upgraded to better backhaul when NV arrives. Sprint also will continue the same network maintenance upgrades at post NV sites when additional capacity is needed. Although, in post NV sites these would likely be just voice and data carriers as there will likely not be any backhaul upgrades for some time. Ericsson is handling the network maintenance upgrades as a part of their Sprint Network Management contract. Robert via CM9 Kindle Fire using Forum Runner

  17. I am in and out of public schools all the time for my job. I know exactly what you mean. Those kids are adept at finding any usable WiFi signal. I'm friends with the IT Director for Los Alamos Public Schools, and they constantly get kids who break into their staff WiFi system. Then the credentials get spread around to 100's of kids in minutes by text. He always knows when there's been a breach, because the system will go from 200 users to 500+ in minutes. If the kids would just be quiet and use it casually, they'd probably never find out. Robert via CM9 Kindle Fire using Forum Runner

  19. Network Vision is scheduled to begin in the Utah market in 2013. We will probably not see any detailed schedules for 2013 markets until some time in the Fall. As noted above, all markets should be started before the end of 2013, finishing up by April 2014. Robert via CM9 Kindle Fire using Forum Runner
