  1. Personally, I do not do significant Sensorly mapping unless I'm plugged into the charger. Which I almost always am when I am in the car. Robert
  2. Sounds like Redding has gone down hill in my absence. At least that part. Our best friends moved there in the Mid 90's and we visited them several times a year. But they moved back to Nevada around 2000, and haven't been back except driving through and maybe swinging by the In N Out drive thru. Thanks for considering a donation to help support S4GRU. Robert
  3. Given its location, I'm pretty sure this is not a high capacity site. So there is probably one CDMA 1900 RRU, one CDMA 800 RRU and one LTE 1900 RRU. Robert
  4. I've never had this issue. I have no idea what it means. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  5. Lower OC in the San Clemente/Dana Point area is within the IBEZ. But I think the middle and Northern part are out of the IBEZ. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  6. Efficient eHRPD routing+under capacity EVDO carrier+new fiber backhaul+under burdened LTE core = screaming 3G ping. That's about as good as it can get on 3G. The airlink cannot support anything much faster than that. In ideal situations, the airlink cannot get faster than 50-55ms. And then add the rest of the travel once it gets beyond the tower. Theoretical best ping on 3G would likely be 55-60ms. And that will be extremely uncommon. So you've got a good thing there! Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  7. 1 second is 1000ms. Which is dog slow. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  8. CDMA Field Test app gets the coordinate from the 1x site it is connected to. In some markets it is the exact location of the site, and in other markets the site broadcast an offset location near the center of the sector. It looks like for you, it is broadcasting an offset sector location. So likely in you market, they all will be off. In the S4GRU Sponsor maps, we show all the Sprint sites nationwide, including in Redding. Speaking of Redding, you ever been to Jack's Steakhouse downtown? I haven't been there in 15 years, but it used to be a place I enjoyed going to when in the area. Robert
  9. The link is still pretty accurate. Here is the most recent: Smoke Signals - 0 posts Analog - 10 posts Digital - 25 posts 1xRTT - 50 posts 3G EVDO - 100 posts eHRPD - 250 posts 4G WiMax - 500 posts 4G LTE - 1000 posts LTE Advanced - 2500 posts Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  10. When I use Firefox it appears to lock up when loading the NV Sites Complete map. However, after 20 seconds it loads up. Just a Firefox issue. But it still loads for me. And in about the same total time as Chrome. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk

  12. International Boundary Exclusion Zone. It's the area along the Mexican and Canadian border where Sprint cannot deploy 800MHz wideband operations until a compromise can be reached and implemented. Both CDMA and LTE are considered wideband operations. iDEN had very narrow channels and was coveted under the previous compromise that is in place now. There will not be any IBEZ wideband 800 until 2014 at the earliest. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  13. No carrier provides indoor coverage maps. They can't. No carrier can guarantee indoor coverage anywhere. There are too many variables involved with differing building types/materials that it is a complete crap shoot. Also, Sprint has overly generous coverage maps. But the new ones are more accurate than Tmo and Verizon. On Tmo with my Nexus 4, I only get data coverage in the top two shades of green. The other two are completely non existent coverage. On VZW, where it shows extended LTE coverage I never get a signal either. Carriers just cannot build maps on the worst case scenario. Models only take topography into account. They cannot account for buildings and foliage and those can really impact coverage. Especially in lower signal areas. And then there is huge variability between devices. It is what it is, unfortunately. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  14. Network Vision 3G upgrades are brought online in clusters. When a site is 3G accepted, it very often does not go live because they have to wait for the entire cluster to be completed. Then all the 3G upgrades in that cluster go live immediately. The LTE upgrades do not have to be brought up in clusters. So it is quite possible that your site has only LTE upgrades live and not 3G, even though both may be accepted. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  15. There is no plan to delay the Sarasota/Bradenton area. They work on each site when it is ready. They are working in the entire SW Florida market as each site is ready. They are not picking and choosing sites. It is what it is. And you will have it before more than 50% of Sprint customers. Including me. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  16. Generally the drop in dBm is the same, regardless of frequency when broadcast from the same site with similar transmit power and downtilt. So if you drop around 15dBm typically on PCS, you will likely drop 15dBm when you go indoors on SMR too. But the SMR would likely be a stronger signal than the PCS before you go indoors. As AJ points out, to try to guess exactly what is going to happen in your instance is impossible. Too many variables. And you may get 800 service from a more distant site before the nearest one. This may really throw you off because your SMR signal strength may be worse. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  17. I'm going to be visiting my sister in Prattville on April 6-8. I'm hoping they have something fired up for me to check out when I'm in the Tulsa area. And then we go on to Vinita to visit my wife's family and then on to Branson. I would like to have more than just Joplin on this trip. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  18. Welcome to S4GRU. Thanks for taking the time to read through the past threads and getting up to speed. It helps to have that background info before diving in. Hope to see you around! Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  19. I've only had my LG Optimus G since last week, but it's been very solid so far. Wonderful device. My wife is already asking to switch her EVO LTE out for it when I'm done playing with it. I actually prefer the Optimus G display over the Note 2. It's just smaller. Robert via Nexus 7 with Tapatalk HD
  20. I wish there was a way we could verify if 1x or EVDO was coming from the NV side. I'm also starting to wonder if there is a connection to all of these sites, as in the same backhaul provider? Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  21. Love the profile pic. I'm a huge Top Chef fan and consider myself a foodie. I'm also a Prime contributor to Urbanspoon. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  22. In San Diego and the lower part of OC and River/SB markets, the middle connectors at the bottom of the panel have not been connected. Meaning no 800. Which is to be expected at sites within the IBEZ. However, sites in Las Vegas, San Diego, OC and River/SB seem to have a different AlcaLu RRU that is larger, almost like a cube. It is either a new RRU type, or it could be two RRU's together with a shield/housing covering them making it look like one. These are decidedly different looking to what I've seen from AlcaLu in past deployments. I was used to seeing what you've posted above. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  23. Yes, you have reasonable expectations. Sites will still go down after launch, but much less frequently. Also, Sprint employees can open tickets on sites after launch and can see reported outtages and things going on with the network that they couldn't see before launch. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  24. Work is under way in your area. Some of it may be related to the upgrade to Network Vision. However, the state of the legacy network is atrocious in most markets. It will get better, on site at a time. I would definitely call Sprint and get a ticket opened. You need to make sure you get a ticket number. Reporting it is a good idea, because you don't know the order of which sites get upgraded first. If yours is one of the first ones, then reporting it is waste of time and you will likely see improvement in 15-45 days. If your site is one of the ones in the middle or end of the upgrade, they can respond to your ticket and add additional 3G EVDO carrier cards at your site and possibly get additional T1 lines. And in this case, getting a ticket open may help the situation. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
  25. Why they are using less on the West Coast outside the IBEZ? I cannot say with certainty. I know that Samsung 1900 RRU's can do LTE and CDMA together. And Ericsson is working on one that can also. Perhaps these are new AlcaLu RRU's that can do both CDMA and LTE on the same RRU? Purely speculative. Robert via LG Optimus G using Tapatalk
