Charter Introduces Spectrum Mobile

Only the LG K30, Samsung S8, S8+, S9, S9+ are supported at launch and more expensive than buy-in them from Samsung for example the S9 64 GB is $619 at B&H, $719 at Samsung and $749 at Spectrum Mobile. No iPhones and no BYOD. Plans include $45 unlimited or $14/GB. Free calls and texting. You do have to be a customer of their Internet offering.

Totally underwhelming launch!

Link would be nice.  Sounds like a plant the flag effort, but I would expect it to soon expand.

One of my relatives had issues with canceling this type of plan due to poor service and took it to the state attorney generals office to get it resolved.  Verizon and the cable company were saying the other one was responsible.

If they allowed BYOD, I might switch to Spectrum Mobile when my free year with Sprint is up at the end of the month because $45 for unlimited with a single line isn't a bad deal. I guess they won't be getting my money.

Same - I plan on being a Spectrum internet customer by the end of September and this would be great if they did iPhone/BYOD. I wonder if it's intentionally limited now to slow adoption.

I think Sprint is rumored to have a $70.00 plan coming up, with a $20.00 discount for BYOD.  Assuming I understand it correctly, that is $50.00 before tax for unlimited with HD video and they won't slow your speeds until you use over 50GB.  This $45.00 plan is limited to 480p and will slow you after 20 GB.

I just wish the BYOD discount is for current customers too. If that were the case, I could see myself switching to the new plan in a heartbeat.

During the Charter earnings call, they talked about doing an MVNO with Sprint but not not T-Mobile before launching one based on Verizon.

They also talked about extending their list of devices (iPhone perhaps?) and BYOD.

I finally ported my wife's number over to Spectrum Mobile. The experience was relatively painless except for a minor glitch with respect to shipping address.

Oh, we bought the iPhone 8+ from them.

BYOD is finally here for spectrum mobile. I added another line with a 6s. I don't see BYOD on their website, I was in their store to turn in a cable modem and I asked them about it. They had just gotten their BYOD SIM cards yesterday. 6s is the oldest iPhone they will accommodate because of VOLTE.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
