It is a device feature. Many Sprint phones will allow surfing WiMax or WiFi and talking on the phone. The LG Viper and Galaxy Nexus will allow LTE and talking on the phone (SVLTE). And the new EVO LTE will allow 3G, LTE and WiFi simulatenously while talking on the phone (SVDO and SVLTE).

SVWiMax works great when you get a good WiMax signal.

 

Edit: I'd be perfectly happy with SVDO if nothing else was available.

Wait the viper has the MDM chip in it the same as the rezound?.....ha Duh. LOL silly oversight there by me if that's the case.

Agreed. I can just imagine a bunch of people using speakerphone in a nice peaceful restaurant so they can also use data.

Speakerphone works great, or bluetooth and wired headsets make that happen.

I think the for me the mayor part of the problem is if your downloading something, it stops and then resume. That would be great to download a ROM over LTE and call someone at the same time to tell them, don't call me, i'm gonna be fixing my phone. Yes, i have to admit it, i'm a flashaholic.

I dont remember anyone complaining about this until the giant 3G/footprint whore off that verizon and att had a few years ago, when att finally settled in saying " the network that allows you to talk -and- text in more places" bla bla bla.

 

If 100 people value the feature, id imagine that about 10 of them have a real world opportunity to benefit from it while the other 90 have had their mind made up since they saw the att commercial where the guy " made reservations for his girls bday while she reminded him about her bday" .... and thought to themselves " that could be me"

I do occassionally use simultaneous voice and web. It doesnt happen for me when Im barrelling down the highway at 75mph. Im usually at my office, my home or one of the many state offices around New Mexico I visit.

 

Someone calls me. They say they sent me something to look at, and often it's my wife, and they want me to look at it and discuss with them on the phone.

 

However, Im almost always on WiFi when this happens. And sometimes when at state offices in Santa Fe, Farmington and Albuquerque I can sometimes be on WiMax too. So I can do simulataneous voice and web without issues.

 

For me, it is only an issue when Im driving. And Im not going to use it then anyway. I just tell the offending party I will check it out when I get to my destination because Im busy avoiding other insane New Mexican drivers.

 

And simultaneous voice and LTE will be more than sufficient in the long term, because Sprint is taking LTE over its entire footprint. Once you have LTE coverage, you can talk and surf to hearts desire.

I never download "large" files via 3G. I even have 1Mbps+ speeds. Its too slow for large files. I download large files on WiFi.

 

The largest things I ever download on 3G are occassional apps and songs. Usually 3 to 4 MB, tops.
