Fuber
Thinking about getting this phone for my wife in the future. I'm just a bit concerned about the liquid cooling aspect on this. Is this new having in a phone liquid cooled? Will it be prone to leakage from age or from the phone being dropped? What will happen if the liquid does leak out(overheat only? And how fast?)? If the liquid gets on the electronics, will it have effects on it? Being from the automotive field, things like this happen. Just getting thoughts and learning about it from the electronic side of things.

themuffinman
Only if it happens in the first year. :-) Well if you don't have the sprint replacement coverage they will replace the device for $75 which isn't that bad of a deal. Either way I don't keep a phone longer than a year anyway.

Is this new having in a phone liquid cooled? Will it be prone to leakage from age or from the phone being dropped? It's not liquid cooled in the way you think (no pumps and crap). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pipe They are pinch-welded copper tubes (they will never leak unless you puncture it / puncture your phone... then you have bigger problems). There is only a small amount of liquid in them that is suspended in a vacuum (take all the air out). The liquid is usually water/glycol mixed with an anti-corrosion additive. The vacuum is to make the liquid more easily turn to steam and then back to liquid. It's the same thing that's used in Laptops and aftermarket Desktop CPU coolers. I've been building computers for 20+ years with these things and never have had one leak. The benefits of these far outweigh the risks. Heat destroys cell phone batteries (shorter lifespan). Getting the heat out of the cell phone is huge. The heatpipe connects the processor to the Galaxy S7's magnesium metal frame, which dissipates the heat out the sides of the device (the metal band around the side of the phone). If you manage to puncture it you have bigger problems (as I said before): Edited February 26, 2016 by jnadke

Nice in the winter - hand warmer. Keep it out of direct sunlight - it works both ways.

Nice in the winter - hand warmer. Keep it out of direct sunlight - it works both ways. I don't think you need to be worried about the phone burning your hands. It won't be any worse than before (only before there were "hot spots"). The net amount of heat will be the same (in theory, unless the processor has become less efficient which is unlikely), only now it will be spread out. But yes, I guess to a certain extent you are the heatsink. On a side note, early reports indicate the new Exynos 8890 gets much warmer than the Snapdragon 820. Yeah, i used to keep insurance on my phone faithfully every year for years then one day I realized that I hadn't used my insurance since the touch pro 1, so yeah I basically gave sprint hundreds of dollars over those years for nothing. So I would rather spend the 75 if I have too versus spending hundreds and not have too.

SturgeonGeneral
I don't think you need to be worried about the phone burning your hands. I didn't say anything about burning hands or even suggest discomfort. I generally have cold hands. Compared to air, I'm a good heat sink for when I stress out the processor. Memory card, speck case (next to my current gs4 case for size comparison), and gear vr. Everything here and ready to go. About ten days until they start shipping phones. SturgeonGeneral
...and gear vr. Reading the gear vr manual. It finally struck me. If they had gone to USB C they were going to lose compatibility with the CURRENT gear VR. There goes the promo. Gear VR pulls power from the phone because it doesn't have its own battery. The next generation phone and gear VR will see USB c I'd wager. The clip with the usb port used for sizing has an undocumented lock that allows it to slide wider for the taller phones. It's isn't a simple detent push latch. It's a spring loaded lock. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk

TS I do carry the protection plan, and I am on my third gs4 in two years. Drop, screen kill about 6 months in. I swear by my speck cover now. Then a sim card reader fail on #2 just two months ago. I could probably drop the coverage now but I need to prove at least through one contract cycle that I can't kill a phone. It's mainly for things where the phone broke but there's no accidental damage (i.e. you didn't drop it). http://phonereplacementtracking.sprint.com/SprintMaintenance/Documents/faqs/customerfaq.htm

TS I had my m9 replaced last summer because it decided to just die on me for no reason. Not only did they charge me $75, they also sent me a new nonrefurbished phone. themuffinman
Yeah I won't be surprised if pre orders start shipping out sometime early this week. With these types of things carriers seems to under promise and over deliver.

Looks like a smarter version of Doze. It automatically disables background apps from doing stuff if you haven't used them for 3/5/7 days (selectable). I haven't heard of this on the Galaxy S6.
