I wonder if Sascha Segan may be reading my work.  But are you reading my work?  I have been on top of the Download Booster issue for weeks now.

Actually, this article is different in that it suggests a positive spin to Download Booster for Sprint. Everything I've read has been doom and gloom.

 

"It'll be interesting to see if Sprint and T-Mobile plug their unlimited plans with Download Booster as a way to get the most out of shaky public Wi-Fi connections. It'll be equally interesting to see if AT&T and Verizon block it."

Sprint loves it and Verizon blocks it? Yeah, that's looking at the issue from a totally different perspective.

 

Who is right/wrong? I still think the concerns are still warranted and whatever positive affects will come at too high of a cost to the network. Just my lay person opinion.

VZW and AT&T won't block it. Their subs are on limited data plans, so as long as their S5 variants make clear that you'll be using mobile data with Download Booster active they'll be happy to take your money.

Yeah, I didn't get Sascha's take. With tiered plans, VZW and ATT will not care. Only Unlimited plan providers would really care, in my mind.

Looks like the the big three didn't want the download booster as much as Samsung did. 

Makes sense, no need to run the risk of pissing off customers who normally would use wifi by charging them an arm and a leg for going over their data limits.

Good. If I was with big red or death star with those data caps, I would not want data and wifi to be used at the same time. Is that not the whole point in connecting to wifi? Besides of course higher quality videos. That has to be one of the stupidest features I've ever seen on a phone.

Well Tmobile kept the booster, so How long until they have to change their minds because people find ways to tether both wifi/LTE for even higher speeds? This could cripple some places for T-mobile. I hope this back fires for the magenta.

This can end up being an interesting experiment. Will this booster change peoples behaviors in favor of or against t-mobile? Its possible that folk may defer downloading big files until they have wifi. I think the biggest danger for t-mobile is if the booster does not change behavior at all. This would mean that traffic that would go over wifi will now be shared between wifi and the network.

Yeah They may wait until they get on Wifi as it will combine two high speed download channels so the downloads will take less time, but They will be downloading more, and larger files now. I am curious if the other 3 carriers are going to let T-mobile be the guinea pig with this feature? See how it hurts/benefits the network and such.

      A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.

      Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.

      Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.

      Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.

      What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
