Network Vision/LTE - Upper Central Valley Market (Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, Eureka & Reno/Lake Tahoe)

Hi folks, first time posting and I donated.

I work at 3707 Schriever Avenue in Mather. I looked at the tower behind our building and it still looks like techiegirl's photo from mid-july.

I am not a Sprint customer yet but considering becoming one, but only after the issues are worked out and there is reliable 4G LTE coverage near where I work and where I live (North Natomas). I have Verizon now and am on grandfathered unlimited data with a 3G device that is on its last legs.

Based on what I have been reading, it seems like a hellish experience datawise in this market due to a long delayed modernization and the growing pains that accompany that modernization unfolding now.

I was really interested in Galaxy Note 3, but I'm now wondering if that would be a wise choice after seeing the conversation about it not being tri-band. Thoughts?

How long can you wait? AT&T is good in the sac region too. I would say wait by the end of the year, and if it doesn't come by then don't go to Sprint. If it it won't come by thr start of the new year (which I doubt it wouldn't) then it'll never come. My only advice is to never listen to sprint reps. They're full of lies.

I turn my phone off on my worktime and fire it up on my breaks and everytime I do I pray the 4G indicator lights up

Yeah it seems like this corning tower is stuck in the mud for some reason. There are 4 towers within 20 miles that have the 4G and I live in a pretty rural area

My uncle used to have a pizzeria in Corning called Luigi's Pizza. That was in the early to mid 80s though. I used to play Tron, the arcade game, there.

On another side note, I just ran into an older woman last Saturday who was wearing a "Tips, Red Bluff" shirt out here in Sacramento. Small world. I used to live off Walnut and Paskenta a mile or two down the road from there.

Sorry, for the memory lane post!

I am trying to keep the faith too.  My friend at work who also has sprint swears his phone works better when he switches to CDMA only mode and pressures me to do so also.  But hell no!  How the hell am I supposed to detect 4G for the first time when they kick that tower on?  He says he turns on his LTE mode when he leaves town but nope when that 4G hits Corning for the first time I wanna know cause I am gonna do a fricking backflip.

Wow you have the grandfather unlimited data from Verizon .

The network won't be completely (99%+) done in this region til I'd say middle to late next year. It's very limited.

Verizon has by far the best lte coverage and soon they should be deploying their next generation of lte. But the verizon prices and reputations with phone manufactures scare me off.

Was pulling these speeds while at Freedom Park in North Highlands last night. Significantly better than they have been in recent weeks. Phone was pretty much unusable in that area the last few weeks. The bottom two are the ones to look at. Posted Image

You would be connecting to the A Street Tower that has it's NV Equipment already and is almost probably close to being accepted. Looks like they may have upgraded backhaul either in place already or in testing mode. Should see some acceptances from this tower soon it looks like...LTE and maybe 3G and 800!!!

10am october 10th no lte here in Davis. I'm going to start a thread so people can give their results in Davis. Any new updates you guys heard about? Davis shouldn't take too long to become dense.

Could be between now and the end of December.

Hi. i'm new here and was wondering is the 3g speed suppose to be 12 kpbs download and 5kpbs for upload? Is it because they're working on the towers that it's affecting the speed? i'm mostly located at Land Park, Freeport.

Say hello to your friendly neighborhood overloaded cell towers. Depending on where you frequent in Land Park, you'll either be connected to a tower right in front of the executive airport, the site at sac city's giant concrete water tower,or the site across the river over at west sacramento.

The city water tower is currently going through the building permitting process in order to begin work. The one over at executive airport is approved for work but the permit has not been issued yet. The one over across the river has work done but not live due to the lack of backhaul (high speed internet connection).

The speeds will be quite miserable until work is commenced and the legacy equipment replaced.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully they will begin work at the airport one. This speed is really......something.Considering that I keep on getting that 1x signal and not even 3g. Fingers crossed for that luck.

If enough people message sprint and demand deployment we might see it before December. If they don't deploy it more and more people will end their sprint subscriptions (myself included). I turned my network to CDMA only. I het usable youtube speeds (that's the most I need) to to study during campus. My phone doesn't burn itself as much. If I suddenly get full bars does that mean the NV has been deployed?

Not Sure if Sprint will be on that new tower, but the picture of the example tower they show in the video is Sprint Legacy 3G Equipment!!! I'm sure there will be more than just Sprint on the tower though.

On a side note...maybe that is why it is taking sooo long for you to get 4G LTE activated. Neighbors are complaining..lol

    • Kind of amazing that T-Mobile is still holding onto that speed title despite Verizon all but killing off lowband 5G on their network. While Verizon is mostly being evaluated on mmWave and C-band performance, T-Mobile and AT&T's average 5G speeds include their massive lowband 5G networks that are significantly slower.
    • 5G in the U.S. – Additional Mid-band Spectrum Driving Performance Gains T-Mobile holds on to it's lead in 5G Speed
    • Yup. Very true. We were originally on an Everything Data 1500 Plan, which got Unlimited Minutes thanks to Marcelo's "Loyalty Benefits" offer. We then switched to Unlimited Freedom (with the Free HD add-on that Sprint originally wanted $20/month per line for.... remember that?) because the pricing was better with "iPhone for Life", vs. the "Loyalty Credit" for staying on a Legacy Plan. After that, I ran the numbers and switched us over to Sprint MAX, especially for the international travel benefits. There's absolutely no reason for us to switch to Go5G Plus or Go5G Next if we're going to do BYOD by purchasing from Apple/Samsung/Google directly as we've been doing. These new plans aren't priced for current customers to switch to. They're priced for new customers, where they throw in a free line, etc. It's gone from "Uncarrier" to "Carrier". What a shame.
    • Strange business model that they keep around all these pricing plans. 1000s of plans per carrier is reportedly not uncommon.  Training customer support must be a nightmare. Even MVNOs have legacy plans. A downside of their contract mentality I guess. Best to change contracts during a recession. But then all carriers try to squeeze out legacy plan benefits as they grow old.
    • Everything "Uncarrier" is becoming "Carrier" again. Because of the Credit Limit that T-Mobile put on our account for no reason at all (and wouldn't change/update the last time I checked all the way up to the CEO), I don't plan on buying/upgrading our iPhones through T-Mobile. I'm going through Apple directly. Looks like I'll be going through Google and Samsung directly for our other lines for upgrades. Also, we're staying on Sprint Max given the ridiculous pricing for Go5G Plus. On Sprint Max, we currently pay for our Plan: $260 for 7 Voice Lines $25 for two Wearable Lines. (One is $10/Month. The other is $15/Month because the AutoPay discount only applies up to 8 lines.) Total: $285/Month vs. Go5G Plus (Per the Broadband Facts "nutrition label" on the T-Mobile Website): https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce/cell-phone-plans $360 - ($5 AutoPay Discount x 7 Voice Lines) = $325 The Watch Plans show as either $12/Month or $15/Month: https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/affordable-data-plans/smartwatches So this is about the same for the wearables as what we're paying now. Overall, it's quite more than we're paying now to switch plans. Ridiculous....
