Sprint announces 9 new cities where work is underway

Recommended Posts

Sprint just received 3 billion dollars from Softbank... I would have hoped for more than just 9 cities?

Come on Sprint.... Kick it up a notch!

You can't be serious here.... They are and have been kicking it up a notch... One must understand what it entails to do everything they are doing before they judge performance....

This is the kind of comment I would expect from a casual Engadget user.

You're assuming that it's purely an issue of money that's keeping them from deploying more quickly, when in reality I think they're moving as quickly as they possibly can already. Remember, Network Vision will both save Sprint a lot of money and will help to retain customers... though it's for different reasons, they want it done just as badly as we do.

Not to mention you have to find the individuals with the skill set that sprint needs to renovate its towers alongside additional training on company rules & equipment installation procedures. Money can only do so much. Logistics, training, and planning matters a lot. Throwing money at a problem doesn't solve it.

More specific please? (location)

Use Google Maps and zoom in on 275 Commercial St - St Paul MN and you'll see an old photo of the tower under work. This is the major Sprint tower that serves the east side of St Paul.

Where did you find out that it is a Sprint tower?

Was based upon my signal strenth experience when travelling through the area. I checked on line registrations and now see this is a T Moble Tower :(

No worries. I have also seen work being done hoping it was Sprint, but turning out to be T-Mobil and AT&T. Nevertheless, we do know work is being done on Sprint’s network in MN and it’s only a little more time before LTE is live.

If you become a sponsor you can access the sponsor section which shows Sprint’s cell sites and Network Vision sites that have been completed.

I am serious. I still mainly see the same states

Just different cities when new markets are announced. If I remember correctly? Didn't sprint say they would have over 100 LTE markets by the end of the year?

Will sprint even come close to that number with a little over a month left?

Sprint was very careful to not say that. They said they had 100 cities where deployment is under way. Sprint is trying to under promise and over deliver. But instead it is more like under promise and deliver.

If you took a step back and tried to grasp and understand everything that is involved in this deployment, along with the obstacles they have encountered along the way, then maybe just maybe your opinion would be more realistic.

Your initial post was about them receiving $ from Softbank and that that influx should speed up deployment... $$ is NOT the only driving factor, nor is it even the main one either. No amount of $ can speed up permits being approved, supplies being made where short, nor can it help where there is simply a lack of skilled labor to perform the duties needed. Oh and let's not forget the weather too...

There are a million moving parts here and $ is just a small part of it.

Edit: wouldn't let me edit previous post on tapatalk for some reason as I kept getting a "quote-mismatch" error

    • Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and coule potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s.
    • Still not seeing any ULS postings for pending T-Mobile UScellular merger in Dane county Wisconsin.
    • Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
