Sprint has revised the network.sprint.com site...hint of LTE?

Am I reading it wrong? Because it doesn't look like there's LTE for Sprint or Verizon in Houston when it should.

 

You have to select Coverage Type: "Sprint LTE" (On the Sprint map) or "4G Data Coverage" (On the Verizon map) from the drop down.

Sprint has revised their https://network.sprint.com/ site, and it now it mentions 4G LTE. However, nowhere on the maps does it actually show live 4G LTE sites. But when I scan around and look at all the sites that are complete with LTE in Kansas, every one I noticed does say "Speed Upgrade."

 

This could mean two things...

1. LTE sites completed are also being labeled with "Data Speed Upgrade", or
   
2. The data speed upgrade is referencing the fact that new upgraded backhaul is at the site
   

So even though this interesting, it does not specifically identify LTE sites. Because even 3G sites with additional T1 lines (in non Network Vision markets) still say "Data Speed Upgrade" also.

 

Another change, is that it no longer tells of scheduled future upgrades, only the ones completed. This is a major oversight, and I hope they fix it.

If you read the text in the flyout, it says "Map depicts Sprint 3G Network and Nationwide Sprint Network and 4G LTE upgrades only" so they are definitely showing the LTE updates in this map. Less clear is how much help this is giving to the 3G network tho.

wow, all the towers in my area are gone with this update. Hope its that they haven't been upgraded yet and not that they've been sold off, because coverage is going to suck with this new setup

The only towers being shown are those that have had upgrades done to them in the past 6 months. The other towers are still there, just not shown because they haven't had backhaul, voice or data carrier upgrades.

Recently my area has popped up over 8 new sites that weren't there before (DC Market, specifically southern maryland). More importantly, most say "Data Speed Upgrade". Hoping that means LTE.. Hope I could get some clarity.

If they show up on the NV Sites Complete maps, then you will know for certain. Otherwise, Sprint hasn't been labelling Network Vision/LTE upgrades specifically at network.sprint.com. They just say data speed upgrades, just like additional T1 lines added to legacy sites do.

Maybe I can help support this a little (sorry been busy and my traffic to this site has plummeted.) Anyways, recently on Reddit.com/r/sprint I had a guy tell me that he got LTE in Muncie, IN at Steak N Shake. That is very near to a tower that has recent "speed upgrade" tower.

Tower nearest there I can see. It has very many panels on it and must serve many different people.

 

 

 

 

 

This is the tower that I'm pretty sure serves my apartment so needless to say, I'm now in the market for an LTE phone. It's taking all I've got to hold out for an LTE 800 model.

I think I'm going to adopt a saying, "Data Speed Upgrade does not necessarily mean LTE deployed, but LTE deployed will show Data Speed upgrade."

 

I've started watching sites marked with "Data Speed Upgrade" only in my market. So far, no dice. But I will continue to keep my eyes to the skies!

I think you may have explained the issue with future upgrades being removed in your post. I would imagine that first of all it is not an oversight, that was a major piece of functionality that was removed. Secondly, I believe it was removed because people were confusing the "Data speed upgrades" with LTE deployments. Let's be realistic, it even happens on this site quite a bit.

I doubt it. The future upgrades were fairly uncertain promises and the past upgrades are like a commercial stunt. It went from a tool to see if you were going to get an upgrade soon enough to stick it out to a place where Sprint can tell you how much they've done for you. Transition... useful tool -> marketing crap.

It'd be different if it was an addition but it is a removal. And I'll have whatever umbrage I want, however there was none to be found. I'm one of the few people on here that understands that Sprint is a corporation with competition and financial responsibilities. You don't always need to be so defensive.

Sorry to say this but data speed upgrade has nothing to do with you having LTE! I live in Vegas and a lot of towers are being upgraded and we have no sight of LTE. They just shows upgrades and have the word"LTE " on the map that's all.

Not all sites marked Data Speed Upgrade are LTE, but nearly all LTE sites that have gone live are marked Data Speed Upgrade.
