Network Vision/LTE - Tampa Market

Question for you guys. I have LTE at my house. I live in a 2 story home and about halfway up the stairs it connects to LTE, halfway down it drops to 3G. I know the active towers in my area and none of them seem like I should be connected to anyway but is this a case of ground clutter keeping me from a signal on the 1st floor?

Sounds like going up 10 feet in elevation is making a big difference helping you connect to a far off tower. Almost definitely giving your phone a much cleaner, and less physically obstructed view of the tower broadcasting LTE.

im picking up a 116 dbm signal indoors on 52nd and Fowler. Speed test was horrible 200 kbps, but at least i got signal. It lasted about 3 mins this time. i was able to map it on Sensorly and took a screenshot of the CDMA field test app

It's about -109. Not bad at all I guess. The towers that are active around are close there are 3 with the furthest being a 15 min ride the closest 2 min

signal usually drops around 124 dbm. I would not think that you are loosing 15 dbm just by going down 10 ft. Is the 109 dbm half way up the stairs?

It wouldn't surprise me. There could be many other obstructions on the ground floor outside of his home that could be affecting the signal.

Yes, sure do... all uploaded.

I went by the site, its definitely on, but the signal hardly reaches I-4. The panels must not be tilted optimally yet. I did some maping but except right next to the site on Williams Rd, the signal is really weak and harldly shows up on Sensorly because of the other sites throwing a weak signal.

I just drove by the tower at Sun City Center and US-301 (that i suspected had work going on) and i see that as of today at 5pm that it now has Sprint panels installed.

Did someone use Sensorly in a hot air balloon or airplane? Look at this track in the Holiday area.

That would be awesome. I was thinking about the possibility of using short range autonomous drones to map LTE not too long ago. Unfortunately it wouldn't give an accurate representation of signal strength at ground level though.

So, sitting here in my office at the airport and stared down at my phone for a moment and saw a 4G icon. Surprised because (1) I am in my office not near a window, (2) I am at the airport (TPA) and although it's listed as "in-progress" I haven't seen any work yet. I went to look at a quick signal strength and it was around -109, but as I said, I am in my office, and not near any windows and in the middle of this part of the building.

After logging on to the site and looking back down it went back to 3G. I toggled, but back to eHRPD. So, it looks like they may be testing here and maybe we will have 4G LTE here at the airport. I am sure there are a number of folks traveling through who would like to see it.

I'll keep monitoring, but it had to be here at the airport as the only place I have been able to pickup 4G was outside on the ramp because of the storage facility site just north of here, but never 4G in the terminal.

After monitoring this for a while new i have determined that the airport Marriott site is not active and the signal coming from the tower north of the airport. There is a hot spot hear my office and once i looked at the signal strength when it happened again i realized or was weak.

that angle is parallel with the road to the right. It might be someone one a rom with a wandering gps bug

Good eye.

We've seen the same thing in New Orleans. It travels parallel with the road and is full signal in a low LTE signal area. We just chalked it up as a GNex user and all the pollution they do to the maps with Sensorly. Wish they would fix that issue or just stop accepting points from the GNex altogether.

I'm going to hope that one of the towers out near me that have panels come on line soon. Really hope to that the Airport Marriott site comes online soon as well.

I have to say that for the most part I see flashes of LTE mostly everywhere I go in Pinellas County. Sometimes a very strong signal and I have no idea where its coming from. On top of that where I spend most of my free time I have 4G strong 99% of the time. Funny where we were 7 months ago..

Still a great deal of work to go in this market. Yes, Pinellas is doing well but the rest of the market like Tampa city and east side of the bay and to the north a lot of work to do.

Think Feather Sound is live or at least something in that area strong LTE signal. My girl works in that area so tomorrow I will have in building coverage idea..

Anyone having problems with the Busch Blvd tower broadcasting LTE? From the begining it barely worked during the day especially when Busch Gardens is busy in the afternoon. I tried calling Sprint and since LTE is not official yet they can't do much. I even had to argue with them that the tower is on and I'm not connecting to Wimax lol. Now my 3G which I never had a problem with before barely works. Is the tower over capacity already? During the night I no problems at all. Attached is a LTE speedtest in the afternoon with a signal about -95dBm.

    • A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.
    • Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.
    • Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
    • Forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago I got to visit these small cells myself! They're spread around Grant park and the surrounding areas, but unfortunately none of the mmwave cells made it outside of the parks along the lake into the rest of downtown. I did spot some n41 small cells around downtown, but they seemed to be older deployments limited to 100mhz and performed poorly.
    • What is the cheapest way to try Dish's wireless network?  Over the past year I've seen them add their equipment to just about every cell site here, I'm assuming just go through Boost's website?  What phones are Dish native?
