Please Help many Q's...

So today 6/22/12 1:30pm i called sprint to see if they have more info on not only LTE but also the way slow 3g speeds in and around the dfw metroplex. Now before i start i have the galaxy nexus and the iphone 4s as a work phone avrg. speed tests on 3g with the nexus is normally around 600kbps or less up and 150kbps or less down and the 4s is normally around 1200kbps down and 400kbps up and these are side by side results. Now back to my phone call with sprint. so i started with LTE questions i asked when the switch was going to be turned on in dfw because when i purchased the 4s back in January they (sprint customer service) said that LTE was coming in early spring to dfw and when i purchased the nexus in may they said sometime in mid year across Texas but DEFFINATLY in june for dfw i was assured. Now they are saying that it wont be till october-november for dfw says sprint customer service tier3 and that even the the reception will be mostly in the downtown dfw/ftworth areas and not till beginning of 2013 will we see reception all through dfw metroplex. Then they asked me why i was so upset about this news because they said i dont own a lte phone so this doesnt affect me . WOW!!!!!!!!! I said well i have a samsung galaxy nexus the person proceeded to tell me that this is not a lte phone its 3G ONLY..... oh boy i said well the box, the about phone in the phone settings, the sprint website, and the rep who sold it to me says CDMA/LTE!!! He still said but the phone is not lte supported and we went back and forth for about 20 min and he (sprint tier3 customer service) and the person i was forwarded to his supervisor i assume tier4 say and i quote "THE SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS IS NOT SUPPORTED BY LTE IT IS A 3G ONLY DEVICE" so ended up being offered a full refund and a new upgrade free and they are overnighting me the Samsung galaxy SIII 32g at no charge the day it comes out for the inconvenience....................... so i now have questions!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the Nexus really not supported by lte even though all documents say so?

Is lte really been pushed back again to fall for dfw?

Is the reception really supposed to only be in downtown areas till 2013?

And lastly are sprint customer service agents brain damaged?!?!?!

I forgot to add that sprint said that cdma/evdo 3g in many areas of texas including all of dfw has been down for a month now and should be back up by June 28 which is why 3g speeds are adnormaly slow. so they gave me a 15% discount off my bill for this. And i also have 1 more Q.

Why is the nexus way slower than the 4s side by side running the same speed test?

There are many LTE speed tests on the site from Sprint Galaxy Nexi. Its LTE capable.

Edit: looks like it worked out to be a HUGE advantage to you though, since you're getting the SGSIII now. I'd be ecstatic!

I assume you have to send the Nexus back when you get the SGSIII??

Basically, everything you were told is a bunch of bunk. Do not call tech support for reliable info. See below:

...lesson number one. Do not take as gospel any non verified info you receive from salespersons, call center reps, even managers, etc. Many of them know next to nothing about the wireless industry other than what they are told. They are not experts. Like so many working schlubs out there, unfortunately, they are largely just rank and file employees who are just doing their rather unsatisfying jobs.

So, if you want solid info, come to S4GRU, where people are passionate and knowledgeable about wireless of their own accord, not because they are getting paid. Those are the best kind of resource people.

Hahaha no wonder they can't turn a profit with these types of free giveaways by customer service reps. This sounds too good to be true. You came out on Top..

To answer all the questions:

Q: Is the Nexus really not supported by lte even though all documents say so?

A: This is ridiculous. Of course the Galaxy Nexus is LTE capable. We have had dozens of confirmed reports where S4GRU members have used the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint LTE.

Q: Is lte really been pushed back again to fall for dfw?

A: No. Please
see our article
for an accurate account of the DFW Schedule Progress.

Q: Is the reception really supposed to only be in downtown areas till 2013?

A: No. Please
see our article for maps of coverages
. As you can see, Sprint is not starting in Downtown Areas, they are starting in outlier areas and working inward.

Q: And lastly are sprint customer service agents brain damaged?!?!?!

A. A few. If your account is accurate, you must have found one.

I don't know even what to think of this thread. The info you are reporting is so absurd and not even close to reality. I don't know if you are trolling, or if you found the most boneheaded Sprint rep in the whole company.

    • Excuse my rookie comments here, but after enabling *#73#, it seems that the rainbow sim V2? requires n70 (I turned it off along with n71 - was hoping to track n66) to be available else it switches to T-Mobile.  So this confirms my suspicion that you need to be close to a site to get on Dish.  Have no idea why they don't just use plmn. To test, I put it into a s21 ultra, rebooted twice, came up on T-Mobile (no n70 on s21).  Tried to manually register on 313340, but it did not connect (tried twice). I am on factory unlocked firmware but used a s22 hack to get *#73# working.  Tried what you were suggesting with a T-Mobile sim partially installed, but that was very unstable with Dish ( I think they had figured that one out).  [edit: and now I see Boost sent me a successful device swap notice which says I can now begin to use my new device.  Sigh.  Will try again later and wait for this message - too impatient.]
    • Hopefully this indicates T-Mobile hasn't completely abandoned mmwave and/or small cells? But then again this is the loop, so take that as you will. Hopefully now that most macro activity is done (besides rural colo/builds), they will start working on small cells.
    • This has been approved.. https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/fcc-approves-t-mobiles-deal-to-purchase-mint-mobile/
    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). They do have a reserve level. Nationwide 800Mhz is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  T-Mobile did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, FWA Mobile in RVs in Walmart parking lots working where mobile phones need all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71, 90% 5g.  93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77 also with its shorter range.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
