  1. Damn I have been all over the Bronx but my phone is not always in front of my face. In Throggsneck I thought I saw a 4g signal for a split second and then it was gone. I have achieved up to 1.9mbs in many areas including Queens since last January, but like U.F.O's I ain't never seen on o dem 4g LTE signals yet. I have even tested areas where Wimax was strong and no LTE yet.lol

I am now jealous, and must travel with my phone in my windshield mount now.rofl

  2. Keep in mind that consumers often don't care at all and would rather be misinformed much of the time. Sometimes even when giving them the correct information they don't wanna hear it. Also not a whole lot of people like doing their homework...

I think a lot of this is because people like to be led. They like some one telling them what do do, and they like being apart of the in crowd. They also like to follow people that sound smart or look good regardless of rather than they are smart or not.

  3. Excuse me, but that is a highly simplistic point of view -- one that assumes nearly perfect information and competition, neither of which exist.

In actuality, the competitor-consumer relationship is far more complex. In many ways, it can be akin to a chess match, and the truly informed consumer has to think many moves ahead.

To use this relevant example, a Sprint sub decides that Sprint sucks and ports to VZW instead. If enough think the same way, then Sprint fails, its assets absorbed by banks, the FCC, and other wireless carriers. Under the "free market," at least one other competitor emerges from the ashes. But wireless is not a free market, cannot be a free market due to the dictates of physics, and competition further collapses. So, because of the short sighted decisions of some consumers, everyone ends up with fewer choices, and VZW, et al., exploit consumers further and further.

That is a worst case scenario, but it is still illustrative. The lesson: do not be a stupid consumer. Think before you make purchasing decisions. And, yes, before you complain, that is your responsibility.

    AJ

This is so damn true, but the problem is that most consumers are misinformed by the misinformed and are clueless.

  4. http://www.slashgear.com/google-may-be-hit-with-antitrust-case-from-the-ftc-12251712/

Dare I say there may be good reason behind this based on complaints levied by competitors. When Google lately I find minimum results unlike in the past where there were tons of information. If you Bing a topic after Google-ing it you find more information. I like Google but I think that they may be giving certain Companies higher search criteria than others. Try it before flaming me please search a product on Google, and then Bing it.

    What do you guys think.

  5. I will only say that Sprint served me well in the pas until 1.5 years ago when service began clipping. Had it not been for unlimited data I would have left last December.Days after my dropped calls were addressed with the truth I got 1.9mbs in the Bronx and I was enthused to look to the future. I will hope that I didn't endure poor service looking for better days to only get unlimited data snatched from me.

There is no entitlement thinking here, but it is a fact that that is the lynch pin for me to take the poor service rendered the last 1.5 years. I hope they don't slap the die hard supporters like some of us here that have been with them since the doors opened in late 96 early 1997.

  6. Think I will wait for that one to be pushed... Too touchy of an apk for my blood.

Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge

I totally understand, but I have down loaded the last one and had no issues with its performance and whenever their was an update it was no different than what came with the phone. I see this as being no different than the L13 update that people was pasting and down loading all around the internet. Some one got the update and posted it to Android Police and they post it as a easy to get down load.

For those that want it it is here and is also running on my phone without any issues!

  7. I'm so saddened with all the impatience that people have with Sprint lately. I have more reasons than many of you to complain about Sprint, and Robert (S4GRU) has even more reasons to complain.

People, Sprint has undertaken a massive project to make LTE happen, and it's not a cheap project either. Plus with some things out of their control like backhaul vendors taking longer times to upgrade the backhaul in some places, it's not entirely Sprint's fault.

Please be patient with Sprint people, please! Network Vision can't happen overnight. I know many of us wish it could, but it can't.

    Thank you! :(

I agree, and I have been advocating for Sprint quite a bit based on the knowledge and facts that I have learned here, and abroad. moat people don't have the facts that would allow them to make informed decisions. However; Sprint has lied and concealed the reason for problems with their service. They try to make you feel that you are the only one with issues, or that it's your handset when clearly the service has major growing pains with their rolling outages reported through out the country by their users, and Tech sites alike.

I feel that Sprint needs to respond to customers with the truth, because I almost canceled when I was dropping every other call not receiving text or services for hours and at one point could not get a call from the Top tech Supervisor because of service disruptions.

They want to keep profits high by screwing the people that pay them instead of crediting them for poor service.

I don't want a free hand out but a credit for times when service was horrendous and the truth would have stopped me from researching Verizon! I have been with Sprint since the opened the doors 15 years ago, and never had poor service like I have had in the last year and a half. They finally told me the truth when I threatened to leave. I would have been paying more but I would have service. No one should have to decide to stay in a poor performing contract with no truthful addressing of why it is happening because they know they are the cheapest game in town.

Now this is the truthful answer from my personal interaction with service, and Sprint the past year and a half so don't think for a minute this is meant to be a bashing post. It is a truthful reason of what people are going through and you have to have compassion for this type of argument even if you like Sprint over all as I do!

  8. The GS3 had equal or better radio performance to the EVO LTE in every way in our testing. And these findings seem to be supported by all the observations I have read and seen to date. The issue in the OP is an anomaly associated with this specific unit.

    Robert

I bought this phone over the Evo LTE because of signal strength. I tested it against my Photon, in strong and weak area's and found it on par, and always with in -1dbm in weak areas. n.v could be the cause.

  9. I read a post on XDA forums that showed how to get the update manually, and it worked for me! Be warned it took many tries to get it to work, but in the end I was rewarded!

"Try this: Go to Settings > Apps (or Applications) and select show All. Then find Google Services Framework and click the Clear Data button. Then click the Force Stop button.

Might have to do it a couple times but that should work. Think I did it twice before my phone sent me the notification."

  10. I Just noticed that my phone is now displaying EHRPD signal consistently here in the Bronx last night, and this morning. I seem to notice from the past that this signal frequency yields a faster speeds. I am in a faint signal area inside my home with signal being from 91-103-dbm. If I go upstairs the signal increases to -85dbm.. Sprint signal does not pass through brick walls that well.

800mhz LTE would solve this weak signal that I am getting am I correct. Because of network vision issues I am having issues with connections and some dropped calls since last August, and while doing a speed test standing outside I got a 76ms ping but speeds never could go over 1.5 mbs a second because of connections issues being reported as I was making the test. I am reporting that I think that network Vision is about to go live here finally in the Bronx.

  11. Don't go to AT&T. I have them and will be canceling the second my contract ends (luckily for me, that's next week). The customer service has been fine. No wait times, (usually) nice reps, they could always solve the problem. But for reception, building penetration, holding a call, and sometimes even getting a data connection? No. I'm going to sprint on the 21st.

If you don't care about the cost to be with the boss go ahead to Verizon. They won't be ahead of Sprint for long, and in fact when your 2 year contract is over you may find Sprint as a industry leader, and want to come back. I just hope unlimited will be here for you when you do. VOIP is coming and when it does Verizon will be charging or data usage through your nose. Go read the last stock report to see what their plan is to make money of sheep in the future.

I have had coverage from Massachusetts to Florida driving down I95, I694, and I never dropped a call. Here in New York coverage is in most places that I have been including the Hampton's in Long Island. I have been getting faster 3g speeds in the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan up to 1.9mbs, and while I was in D.C. a few weeks ago had decent speeds and coverage as well.

I left AT&T for Sprint and will never go back to the King of dropped calls. I was with AT&T when they were Mobile 1, then Cellular 1, and jumped ship after AT&T took over. and once Sprint opened their doors I never looked back. After evaluating the cost of Verizon and unlimited datacompared to Sprint I decided that they were not worth changing, and to stick out the growing pains with Sprint. I can still use my phone to make calls and LTE should be in the NYC area very soon.

  12. This is a hard one for me. On one hand I love the EVO's speed, battery life, and expandability. I don't like the size; it's difficult to work with using one hand. I love the Google apps.

I love the iPhone's size, (presumed) battery life, and integration with my Mac. I don't care for it's lack of expandability (more $$ upfront for 32GB model). I also have a $100 iTunes gift card from when I bought my Mac that I could put towards apps, music, movies, etc.

I got my EVO for a penny on Amazon....I'm thinking I am going to keep it. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Man if you want to ditch the phone please don't say it's too big to handle. Just stop it....my girl friend has small hands and handles my GS III with no issues. I see women handling the GS III like champs with small hands....please man up. Using size as a reason to ditch a phone IMHO today is lame. You just want a reason to get the next cool fad....iPhone 5.

I personally wouldn't trade any of the newer Android top tier devices for an iPhone! I wish that Razor was sold on Sprint! The battery life and antenna would be killer for me. I handled the EVO and I can tell you it felt good in my hand, and the size was fine for "me". Hell, the Note felt good in my hand also.

  13. my post was in no way directed at you, so please reserve your flaming for someone else. my skepticism stems from having run countless speed tests on multiple Sprint devices in Manhattan, Bronx and Brooklyn and never consistently achieving 4G speeds like the ones the person I was speaking to reported. while I don't believe he lied, my experience with Sprint has been that an isolated test conducted at an optimum moment can yield skewed results. these results yield an outlier with an extremely high value and one that's not capable of being reproduced over time. that was the source of my skepticism, which again, had nothing to do with you.

this evening (just before 8pm), however, I noticed the fastest 3G speeds I've ever been able to achieve in my neighborhood. running three tests in the span of a couple of minutes, the slowest download was 1.11 Mbps with a max of 1.26. pings ranged from 99 to 140. upstream was still pretty mediocre (0.43-0.76) but those download speeds are literally supersonic when compared to what one can normally pull up here. I'm going to keep running tests over the next few days to see whether this was a fluke from an abnormal small number of people being around because of Labor Day or if some improvement really did occur.

Well "that" person was me, and I was representing myself. I got 16mb down in Pelham Bay in the Bronx, your skepticism has nothing do do with the fact that I did get that speed. Again as I mentioned earlier just because you are not able to mimic this does "not" mean that "I" did not get that speed. There isn't any place on the Now network that gets consistent speeds so that is a moot point. I got 1.9 mb on 3g in Parkchester and I don't get that on a consistent basis. Until the city is complete the test will always be skewed speed and reception wise!

  14. understood but I'm not really referring to the capabilities of WiMax but to the kind of speeds I've seen in the last several years here. overall, speeds in Brooklyn are nowhere near the speeds in Manhattan, and the speeds in Manhattan don't come particularly close to 16 Mbps either. it seems very strange that the area of Brooklyn he's referring to (Flatlands) would have WiMax service that strong.

I got that speed in Pelham bay area buddy, and its in my Photon. I have no reason to lie. I was in D.C. last week and got 1.892 down and 1.150 up on 3G with a 73ms ping. In queens and the Bronx recently I got 1.92 down and 1.0 up on 3g. In NYC last week I got .873 up, and .413 down on 3g with a 145ms ping. This was on riverside Drive and 158th near the GW Bridge. Also since when is "your" personal experience suppose to negate someone else's on a network with different devices and different locations....wake up! In such instances as these the phone reults is my witness, and to lie does not help the community one iota.
