  1. And sense is like having a fat man sitting on your chest.

ROFL.....you may call it bloat but bloat functionality was, and is way better. The EVO LTE is a marvelous phone, and seems more fluid in function to "me". Touch wiz takes getting use to and is not as easy to navigate as Sense is....this seems to be the consensus of most all tech reviews that I have read. Having an EVO, EVO 3D, and playing with the EVO LTE I can really say sense has better functionality IMHO.

Antenna signal, a1.9 camera, and 2 gigs of ram is what swayed me....

  2. The GS3 has a touchwiz overlay, somewhat similar to HTC Sense...

Sense for the win no question for me! Touch wiz is like having something caught in your teeth...you know it's there but you just can't get at it.

  3. You really can't go by completely on receive dBm either. What about transmit? You could only read that on the tower side. The real test is to place both phones in the same location with a headset attached in sprint only mode. Then try a test call in a fringe area and slowly move to a location where one can no longer hold a test call..loopback call is is best..if you know of one of course. Once one dies then repeat the calls and make sure it didn't die due to cell breathing. If you can repeatedly call on one phone and not the other then there is your winner.

With data...I guess you could just do a ping test. Both phones would need to be in evdo only mode as well.

I have them both in use in a really low reception area for my test on a daily basis....my home. Dropped calls are about the same as is reception. My EVO 3D couldn't come close to this so I returned it for the Photon. My og EVO did a good job if it were put next to a window, but the Photon, and SG III get better reception with out being placed on a window sill albeit a weak signal they hold on to signal in a weak area pretty well! I always check them both to check if there is any change in performance......none so far!

Where as your suggested way of testing would probably be far superior to my way of testing; my way of functionally testing side by side of both units is good enough for "me"

  4. I did a side by side comparison, and I can say -dbm wise the SGIII wins. The SG III performed on par with my

Photon -dbm wise. The SG III gets very good reception so I bought it and have never been more happy. It performs just as my Photon does in weak reception areas. I have my Photon and I would test both phones antenna -dbm signal and they are within 1-2 -dbm's. Nobody can say the SG III has weak antenna or GPS problems. I tested them both and if you are worried about antenna signal don't!

    pluses:

    1.9 mega pixel camera

    2 gigs of ram

3 software enhancements like face unlock, phone to face while texting to call person being texted, larger screen

  5. I expect carriers to have replacement repairs at a fair price in the near future...here are a few replacements that I have found! What do you guys think, and yes insurance is a way to go, but I feel replacements may be a way for some as well as carriers repairs soon!

  6. I'm not ready to release final info on our radio performance article, but I can definitely say at this point the GS3 is a solid radio performer. If you are having signal problems in comparison with other devices in exactly the same settings, you may have a device problem.

My Photon comparison with the GS III -DBM wise told me that day one. Any one having issues has a bad product or has network vision roll out woes.

  7. And if history is any indicator, sprint won't get it till April 13. I don't want to wait that long.

Yes, Sprint got it late, but I think they delayed this for the LTE implementation, rather than to offer it way early with no 4G support. LTE is ready to roll out by the 15th of this month so not launching it in April would have made this phone irrelevant. They needed to get the ball rolling to keep customers, yet have 4G ready to implementate not too long after.

I don't know of any reason the Gnex would sell over the EVO 4G LTE or the GS III except for the software which would launch on the newer Gnex.

  8. Has anyone else experienced and incerease in dropped calls after geting the S3? With my Photon I could probably count on one hand the number of dropped calls I had in the year I had it and didn't have any with the Evo LTE for the 3 and half weeks I had it. Seems like I am getting one a day now that I have the S3.

All I can say is that my Photon in my possession has the same -dbm signal and antenna reception as my GS III. They are usually the same or -2dbm difference that just seems to catch up or both fluctuate. In my house where the signal has always been weak with my Photon is the same with my GS III. Maybe it's network vision, because my GS III is on par with my Photon. I believe the Photon has the better antenna, but so far with the GS III antenna reception has been stellar.

  9. Has anyone in the New York City area have the Sg3? If so how are u experiencing data speeds? Wanna leave Verizon due to there high prices.

They are slow right now so if data is your main reason I'd wait. However network vision will be here soon I have attained 1.92 mbs on 3G at times. I use my phone mainly for calling so when LTE comes I will not miss my Photon 4G

  10. God help me, but tomorrow after dropping the other half at work, I have a few hours to kill so I am going to the local corp Sprint store to check out the S3. Its going to take all the freaking will power in my being to not come out of the store with one.

I swear half my paycheck is already going to these carriers, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, I really need to get myself into smartphone rehab.

I picked it up, and now my Photon is just a signal tester for comparison. I also decided to get this http://www.amazon.co...laxy+s+iii+case to help me protect and keep a grip on this slippery thing.

Comes with a free CrazyOnDigital wristband.

This case is similar to the Otterbox Commuter case and is a 2 piece silicone rubber, and hard plastic case cover. The silicone rubber has round circles that are thicker in depth that protrudes through the hard plastic cover. These thicker circles act like shock absorbers in event that the phone is dropped. The case looks and feels premium, and fits perfectly. All features and buttons are accessible as well. The case is attractive and doesn't add bulk to the phone, but makes the phone easier to hold on to for large would be butter fingers like mine making it easier not to drop. This description says Galaxy S II but the said unit is for the Galaxy s II, and from Amazon it does not come with a wrist band.......I own this based on a XDA post that I read! I also ordered a arm band for running as well from them.

  11. I would like to know how your phone works in medium to weak signal areas in terms of battery life. My Viper isn't what it was cracked up to be, and am now looking at getting a GS3 ASAP.

If anyone has a GS3 and they have been using it in areas where the signal drops to -100 or worse on a consistent basis, please tell me how the battery life is. Thanks.

In my house I get weak -96dbm to -101dbm and I can go all day with over 12 hours with it just laying there. I can tell you I let my Photon stay next to it doing DBM test from network dbm tester and they are pretty darn close signal wise. Don't hesitate to change from the Viper to this. I am not passing anecdotal or euphoric information.....all of this is from testing my Photon signal strength from a side to side comparison position.

  12. What kinda fall was this? Approximate distance from ground and what surface? My epic touch went down at least 10 times and never broke.

Waist high to the ground about 3.5 feet at most, and it hit the concrete ground flat on the back side....no scrapes or scuffs, but a mildly cracked screen.

  13. Got an GS3 today !! My gut feeling to cancel that Best Buy preorder on June 23rd paid off. Saw over on Android Central about the $149.99 price at Radio Shack.. .despite the 2 shacks here claiming they "lost their contract with Sprint" (all the phones are strangely gone outta 2 stores here that have always sold them) , I asked nicely and gave my sweetest sad puppy dog face to an effeminate young man and got my $149.99 price match at Best Buy Mobile in the local mall. Together with the $50 phone freedom coupon from earlier this year, not feeling bad at all about paying $100 for this beauty.

Anyways, no regret about leaving my GS2 behind. The GPS functionality is night and day. My data connection also seems more consistent. I carried the GS2 and GS3 around the house and compared the RF strength.. at no point did I see a discernible difference. In fact, the GS3 held lower dbm in many places, more often, than the GS2. I also believe the wifi radio is much better. On the GS2, I can barely pull a signal in the back part of my house and lose it in my garage.. the GS3 picks up and works just fine in both of these places without significant speed degradation. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't see how someone who is in a moderate to good Sprint market could really have issues with this phone.

Bar for bar is on par with my Photon and dbm wise....I will keep it. Also I dropped it and now must figure out this TEP thing if it applies. Amazon has a 64 gig SD ultra for $48.00, and a 32 gig SD from Sandisk for $19.95 for those needing more storage

  14. OOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I DROPPED IT THIS MORNING. NOW Does TEP cover this, and how does this work. Screen looks gorgeous, but faint hair line cracks are there.

  15. Ok I got mine and so far it's not to far off of signal reception from my Photon -DBM wise. I bearly get a signal in my house but i can make calls as with the Photon. They at this point are real close in signal strength the Photon, and the GSIII. The photon being a bit stronger no question about it signal wise. I checked -dbm's in many areas and they are close. Wierd that in the Sprint store location it had -57 dbm while my Photon hads a -65 dbm while the EVO 4G LTE had a -79dbm.

So far I love the feel and look of pebble blue. The screen is way better than the Photon. Some times the signal when low swithes between cdma a or b or 1xrt:6....whats that 1Xrt:6.

The fact that all of my Google settings were saved on my SD from the Photon when I signed into Goggle it started down loading all apps. I had 40% battery, and when the down loads were complete I was almost out of juice. The back of the phone gets hot when down loading it seems.

As Aaron from Phone dog says the way that you can get the pull down screen to show wifi blue tooth, and air plane mode for control is great

  16. After using the EVO LTE "I am compelled to ditch" my trusty Photon for a GSIII. I do this for the software fluidity, and multimedia enhancements as well. I use my phone mostly for calling and rarely use Wimax unless I am out in the city any way. When NYC is lit up with LTE I will have unlimited data, and a great phone until this happens. If I want a better phone at the years end I will sell this for only a 4 core LTE Galaxy Nexus and add to a second line! My last Premier upgrade is July 1, 2012.

When I factor in the fact that S4GRU reports that NYC will be lit up by October, and my upgrade is due now I decided not to wait and push my 2014 upgrade back until October. Also the fact that Sprint's service suffices enough for me to stay for the unlimited data, and LTE at an affordable rate a win win scenario "for me"! I know that Sprint has already broadcast that they will light up the LTE in the 4-5 1st round major markets July 15th 2012. I have already achieved 1.5mbs up and down on 3G at times so it's only a matter of time
