1. Yeah, about that. The glass is fused to the display on the GS3, so that $32.99 replacement glass is worthless.

It's "Not" for the faint of heart for sure Scott, and to avoid warranty issues $178.50 next day air round trip to Samsung is a fair deal considering Sprint has charged 25.00 next day air shipping! No 132.00 yearly deductible needed. Now if you are worried about other issues like loss/theft or water damage keep your TEP.

This thread was only meant to alert people to other alternatives to TEP, and to show how cheap the replacement parts can be for repair. I don't feel that you should have to sent your phone in when the phone works with a cracked screen. That's my personal opinion, and I list the reasons why I feel that way

  2. I wouldn't expect Sprint to keep the $35 repair fee for much longer. Parts for the new smartphones are simply becoming too costly to be able to subsidize like this anymore.

I see Sprint going back to the way it used to be, or something similar. Different costs depending on the damage. With Screen repairs/replacements going back to the $100-200 range. As it is now, the $35 for any repair or potentially an entire replacement just isn't sustainable.

Fun Fact: The monthly TEP cost that many customers pay entirely subsidizes the cost of all service and repair operations that Sprint has. With parts costing more from the OEMs though, I can't see that staying the same, even with the increased cost for TEP on the newer high end phones.

Before I pay Sprint 200.00 to repair I'd send it to Samsung next day there and back for 178.50. Not to mention the cost for some parts in my second link was 25.00....really!

  3. I filed for a claim 8/03/2012, and it has been on back order ever since. I have a cracked glass that's usable, and can barely be seen. Every thing functions as it should, and I was thinking just get a repair, but went the insurance route. After waiting until Tuesday I called Samsung to see what the repair cost for a cracked glass was, and I found out that they charge $178.50 to repair and to next day air there and back included in that cost.

I called Asurion to cancel and go the Sammy route because I was tired of waiting, and the chance that I could get a used refurbed GS III also help me to come to this decision. They won't cancel, and even though I was never sent the phone they tell me that I can not cancel once I put in a claim. Now this is rediculous in my eyes, what do you guys think. I am going to cancel my TEP and not worry after this is over because I get a years warranty from Samsung, and never had to use insurance ever since being with Sprint, and for 11.00 monthly plus 150.00 deductible I think Sammy repairing is cheaper if you have a case "which I didn't at the time that I dropped it 2nd day BTW" and need a crack repair.

I am not worrying about theft, and on my second line want a Nexus when it comes out at years end possibly, and my luck with holding onto and maintaining a phone is stellar so far minus this incident.

You can get a cracked glass repaired for 28.00 more and no TEP cost if you go the route that I am going now because of this. Just a little food for thought is all I am providing with this story!

  4. @Gopher

Your PSU is rated 330W MAX, Mhmm the GT 630 requires a 350W minimum PSU with +12@20A that being your components are not requiring a lot of juice either, I calculated something’s and I think you may be able to run the 630 but I don't recommend, The FX 5500 is a fan less card and a low powered card, chances are your PC won't boot, and if it does boot you might burn out your PSU during peak. QWIKSTRIKE offered you a 400W PSU, I think you should take it and then worry about buying a GPU. As of now your 330W +12V@17A might not be sufficient enough to run.

The PNY GT 630 witch has the VGA is a little slower than the Evga GT 630

    @QWIKSTRIKE

I don't think there’s a need for him to upgrade past 400W. His PC is outdated already, won't be any point but future proofing. Also I want to add that you are a very nice person for offering him some help

Well you can get a 550 for like 59.00 shipped on sale from Newegg and to buy my Antec earth watt is maybe 30.00 but future proofing for 29.00 more is the best way to be ready for an all out upgrade on that thing lol. The 1.5 ram is definitely a bottle neck, but that system is also very old and needs upgrading as well. I bought a few Antec cases in 2009 and ditched the 400 watt psu's for 650, and 550 earth watts that are used for partial gaming and streaming. I build systems for people as a hobby since 1995 and I am A+ certified since1999.

    Good luck

  5. Thanks for the reply guys!

I tried that at first, but then realized I am not sure what I'm doing.

I need something with at least one VGA or S video output, sorry for not stating that earlier.21fafb86.jpgThis is the PS that I have.

Wow you have more RAM than I have free space on my main hard drive! I'm using an AMD 64 3500+ (939 Socket.)

Must be an old system...I have an Antec brand new never used 400 watt earth watt I believe power supply. if I find out what it cost for shipping and 10.00 you can have it, but I suggest you upgrade to a 550-500 Antec earth watt green power supply for the future from Newegg. VGA S video....wow this is a dinosaur.....you won't find a new card offering this requirement.

  6. Get it fixed by a local repair shop.

Sprint doesn't make money, Assurian might...

Actually, it costs $203 to build the iPhone 4S and economies of scale are significantly more when you are buying a few repair parts instead of millions of the same part for a production run.

Yes, techs are trying to trick you[/sarcasm], they probably just wanted to get you out of their face about the phone being "broken" when there was nothing wrong with it.

This is not even close to a relevant comparison.

Sprint doesn't force you to use the insurance they provide, and just because Sprint used to provide screen replacement, doesn't mean that they are screwing the customer that they stopped. There are businesses in most towns that specialize in phone/ipod/device repair and can replace your screen for about the same cost. You are free to go without insurance and bank the money you would otherwise pay to insurance, then use that money to buy a new device or pay for repair. With all the fraud going on with people saying their phone was stolen or lost so they can get an upgrade, there is good reason these companies are soaking the honest customers that just want their phone repaired. They need to make money.

-Maybe one day unicef will get into the insurance business... -Kevin Nealon

I don't wish to get in a pissing contest, and appreciate your opinion, but when they stop repairing screens for $35.00 in lieu of forcing you to turn a new phone in that needs from "my" research $25.00 in replacement cost parts for a "refurbished" phone and $150.00 deductible seems a bit suspect to me. I truly believe that with any partnership rendered there is always reciprocity by both parties. The fact that they don't tell you that they will not be repairing phones when they have it writing that the phone will be repaired or replaced is deceptive especially when they never intend on repairing phones from the start.

The point about fraud and such definitely is a valid point. However; I have not been a fan of insurance because of past deceptions from "Sprint". This is not to bash them but to air disappointment in a fair reasonable expectation as a 15 year customer. I have paid $700.00 for phones in the past and when they failed with in months of use have them replaced with old inferior replacements! The need to make money should not cause them stoop to making money by deception.

Sprint does not force you to use insurance but, they promise that the phone will be repaired, or replaced if it can not be repaired. They go on to say that if said phone can not be repaired, nor replaced with a new one an equal stand in would be offered to offset the loss for $11.00 a month. Now to say Sprint has nothing to do with these plans would be ridiculous because they are selling those plans to customers, and it is their partnership. As some one who sold insurance and securities licensed they are "probably" making money form Asurion whether you believe it or not as agent type relationship. As long as I get what's promised I do not care about this as well.

Insurance law states for "consideration" "money offered" the insurer promises to make whole the insured in case of loss as per the words clearly expressed in declaration clause. Any ambiguity in said declaration clause in a court of law goes to the insured if subrogation is chosen by a neutral arbiter.

As far as techs getting me out of their face, I have a decent amount of technical awareness and I don't cry wolf or look for free hand outs. The Network vision project was causing red circles for days with LOS, and 1- 2 day delayed text, and 3 hours no service that no one could call my phone including a call from a Sprint CS supervisor and the Supervisor tech on a phone told me that I had to go to a tech center to get the phone checked. To me that was a waste of time because the phone worked in most every area besides where I lived. Your sarcasm is unwarranted but you are entitled to your thoughts. Sprint did not come clean about the issue until I got a tech on the phone through complaints that should not have to happen when they new they were having service issues! I am sure you can appreciate where I am coming from with this as well.

As a reasonable prudent person I would expect the phone to be able to be repaired or replaced in a fair amount of time like expressed in the declaration contract. However when Sprint decides not to repair a phone in lieu of an Asurion insurance replacement that is their prerogative. But please understand that they can't do this in the middle of the contract that states that they agree to make repairs when they never intended on making repairs. I hope you can appreciate where I am coming from here with this....it is deceptive when a technician at a Corporate store validates this.

  7. That really sucks. I would cut off that warranty, get the glass fixed cheap, and find a good case for the phone. Pay yourself instead of the warranty and use that money to pay for needed repairs or to buy something off Craigslist if you destroy your phone.

Got a good case, but came in after I crack the screen rofl! The phone is sooo slippery with out a case too!

  8. If that is the case then how did I get my phone in 1 day after finalizing my claim?

Finalized my claim on Friday August 3rd, got phone on August 4th because I selected for Saturday delivery on Fedex Express which Sprint charged me $20 for it thru my phone account.

Things change....there must be an over whelming break rate....rofl Don't be so naive to believe that because your transaction went smoothly that all will have the same experience. Personally Id rather have my phone repaired there are no nicks or scrapes in the case what so ever. I am not debating the fact that it happened for you or that it can't happen.

I just feel that there should be a viable repair option for those that want it. There was a promise of a 24 hour turn around, and if they had to you would be shipped a new phone or given something comparable to what a customer has....So why noit repair phones to avoid the headache for those that want a repair. Go to a repair shop, and you will find that Sprint has taken the repair option out of the equation for cracked screens now in lieu of Asurion and a 150.00 deductible and exchange which may or may not get you a refurbished phone! My thinking is why take a possible refurb over a repair if my phone looks and works new.

  9. Update: Apparently, they transferred my entire balance, including what was left of my original promotional balance ($1.69), plus as I pointed out above, I got another $10 promotional credit because my replacement phone was a new phone, not refurbished.

Qwikstrike, why don't you take your phone to a local repair shop and get it fixed on your own? It's probably cheaper than paying the $150 deductible. I used to refuse getting insurance on my phone because of those large deductibles. The only reason I got it this time is the lack of deductible through BB.

Also, as far as the cost of insurance goes, you pay a lot more (relatively) for your cell phone coverage because you are a lot more apt to use that coverage than you are likely to get into an auto accident. It's not based solely on coverage amounts, but also frequency and severity factors.

I think it has to be approved for repair for if things back fire you may have a voided warranty. I just wish they gave better options for cases where the phone can be repaired with minor issues rather than try to rake you over the coals for a outer cracked glass!

As I have stated before if I could get it repaired I would be happy, but it must be an approved repair shop you the warranty is void!

  10. I want to beef up my Frankenputer, but am so behind the times in the PC parts sector. My motherboard was manufactured by EliteGroup (ECS) and the model number is K8T890-A VER: 1.0A. It is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and has 1.5 GB RAM. (I know, I know.) My current card is a (very unimpressive) PNY GeForce FX 5500. I'm looking to spend <$100. Can someone please point me to something compatible with my system/ in my price range?

You may look at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102988....You need more physical ram for your pc....I am running windows 8 with 32gigs of 2000mhz ram. Time for a true hardware upgrade what CPU are you using........

  11. Asurion has no phones and I have been on the back order list for a week. Patiently waiting for a phone. I have a cracked outer glass. These can be repaired for 25.00 based on my research. However Sprint is no longer doing phone repairs. They are now also into screwing the customer business. They take a phone like my 1 month old new phone with a cracked screen, and have you send it to them for 150.00 in exchange for a refurbished phone. They then refurbish your cracked screen for pennies, and resell it for 150.00 to the next guy. I prefer my phone to be repaired rather than to get a refurbished phone, because in the past every refurbished phone that I got were "****".

They are telling people that you can get a repair for phones, but they are not telling you that cracked screens will not be repaired, because they can make money off of you by repairing you phone for pennies and telling you that you will be provided with a new phone or a comparable phone if yours is not in stock. Well I am still waiting, and when I asked why not repair my cracked screen since I have found parts on Amazon for 25.00 the technician told me they were told that Sprint makes money through Asurion exchanges.

Don't for a minute think that digitizers cost lots of money to repair. If it cost less than 100 to build an iPhone new SG III will cost about the same to build okay. Insurance is now the way for business, and carriers to scam us for money after building hype about how much a phone cost to sell, or repair based on profit margins. I don't know about you but when I cracked my EVO I paid 35.00 for screen repair and after I found how cheap it was to repair it I dropped my insurance.

I believe that many people were doing just as I have in regards to repairs. Soooo, now they have taken a 25.00 repair and turned it into a 125.00 profit. The last time that I complained about signal reception for my "Photon" they tried to tell me I needed a new phone, when in fact signal was poor due to network vision. It seemed like the techs just wanted to trick me into going to Asurion for a new phone.

Go ahead make money but the need to stop being greedy is upon the carriers. I pay 600.00 a year for car insurance that covers thousands of dollars in damages and repair, yet insurance for a 500.00 phone is $120.00 a year. Anybody see where I am going here? $600.00 yearly for $300,000 in coverage vs $120.00 for $549.00 in coverage's and with a loss is $270.00 out of pocket vs $1100.00 out of pocket in a case of accident coverage. I am still waiting for my new phone Sprint/Asurion.

What a scam! Yes it may be a better scam than BB, or whom ever but you are still being scammed okay! It was told to me by a technician they were given orders to stop repairing phones for some reason. You can see that they are profiting on the Asurion insurance on cracked screen repairs!

  13. The LTE deployment will be completely different than WiMax. LTE will be over the whole market when it launches. Spotty at first, getting more and more solid every week until the whole market is done.

  14. They don't tell you if they had the phone in stock before you filed the claim?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

They are out of stock of this product......imagine that. If I could just get a replacement screen I'd be happy. The digitizer works the outer screen is cracked. The phone works flawlessly, and I can see clearly in spite of the crack.

  15. I highly doubt NYC will look like that come the end of August. I'm very disappointed in the progress there. It is going way too slow. Let's see what happens in August.

NYC is a large market dude.....buildings blocking signal needs to be set up correctly or signal will be blotchy and spotty if not set up correctly. The map that I have seen shows the coverage going up as far as Poughkeepsie near IBM's HQ. That's awesome.....patients is a virtue. I have received 1.9 mbs on 3g in some areas like Jamaica Queens, and the Bronx.

True dat it does seem gurly man doesn't it. ROFL.

I ran CM on my OG Evo several times and I would always end up going back to a sense based ROM. I missed my smart dialer and I never found a calendar widget that fit my needs better than the Sense one.

The performance bump of CM was never enough to keep me from going back to good ole Sense.

I guess it's like leaving the super hot girl who really doesn't offer much other than an occasional good romp to go back to the still attractive girl who is smart, cooks, treats you like a king and is fun to be around.

Not that I've ever experienced the super hot girl romping part, but I imagine that's how it is.

I agree I have yet to find the clock or calendar equal to sense!

  17. I've had both on various phones. I spent more time trying to find a pure AOSP ROM than anything, thank goodness for cyanogenmod. I hate them both equally. Never had motoblur, I assume that is as pointless.

Damn you nailed that one....I hated Blur on the Photon....rofl...I am not sure which is wores Touch wiz or blur....."blur" it is by a land slide I think!
