  1. I manually updated my brother's S3 last night. Had the file downloaded to my desktop, and just moved the file over to the external sd card on the S3. From there I booted into recovery, cleared my cache, then updated from the external sd. 10 minutes later everything was good to go.
  2. I'm in Houston, and my EVO picks up LTE on its own on a regular basis. The EVO has a file in its engineering screen called LTE Record, which looks like a list of towers that has connected to LTE previously. This might be the reason why it switches to LTE in areas where it has previously connected to LTE. The issue with the lower threshold it would seem, is the EVO switches back to 3g too soon even when the 4g signal is still usable. This will have more of an effect indoors. Where a weak 4g signal might only get you 2-4mb/s download, that still blows away a strong 3g signal.
  3. The Evo 4g LTE isn't an LTE phone? I should have known better.
  4. I wonder if that's the case. My white EVO picks up LTE on its own here in Houston, but I'm usually in the same areas. If the EVO LTE has a lower threshold for switching back to ehrpd then it will definitely affect indoor coverage.
  5. I have a white EVO LTE, and before that used a Galaxy S3 for a month before giving it to my brother. Reading the forums I'm concerned, but I've seen instances where my Evo picks up LTE before the Galaxy, and sometimes the reverse where the Galaxy picks it up first. In my usage it hasnt' been a noticeable problem. I've also glanced at my phone while driving on the freeways in Houston and sometimes I see it on LTE, same as the Galaxy. I also have been to San Antonio and saw the EVO switch to LTE for a decent amount of time driving on the free ways (leaving downtown on I-37, and hitting I-10 to go back to Houston). I haven't done extensive testing between the two phones, but I haven't noticed a problem either. Having said that, I am concerned that so many people have tested the EVO side by side with other phones and are running into issues.
  6. What can you tell us about the sprint known issues database? Does Sprint acknowledge the LTE connection issues people are talking about with the EVO LTE?
  7. What is considered good signal quality as far as RSRQ goes?

    OTA for EVO Available

When using the stock Sense launcher, hitting the menu button does nothing. When I use Apex launcher I can bring up settings.

    OTA for EVO Available

Things seem slightly snappier, and my battery life also improved. My battery indicator indicator is at 70% after a work day (light usage - occasional texting, and during lunch I'll web browse or read artlicles using the Pulse app) I do have a settings button in my notification drop down menu.

    Bent my EVO LTE

I gave my Galaxy S3 and picked up a white Evo. After seeing some pics of bent Evo's on XDA I decided to get the Otterbox Commuter case.
  11. With Sprint planning to implement DO Advanced, will this in theory keep a a user on the best available tower/carrier?
  12. Jellybean was just unveiled last month - only a few of the Nexus devices have it at the moment. I thought it was pretty well known that if you want the quickest updates to get a Nexus device? As far as getting updates out, Sprint also has to test and certify the updates which, according to this article from phonescoop.com, normally takes 3-4 months. http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=10935&p=5169
  13. Sorry forgot the /sarcasm tag. (it was supposed to say pre Network Vision - darn autocorrect)
  14. Is there something going on with eHRPD in Houston? The last 2 days places where I normally see eHRPD are now either EVDO or 1rxtt.
  15. Amazingly that's better than Sprint's backhaul per Network Vision right?
  16. Phone is on 1rx today causing quite a battery drain at the office near 610 and Bellaire. Hopefully they're upgrading the nearby tower to LTE today.
  17. Thanks for the info Robert. As far as a usable LTE signal, I'd say -105dbm to -110dbm is about the cut off point so far in my usage. I'm in a fringe 4g area (my house, outside) and I've been able to get speed tests up to 11mb/s. I've also seen 600kbp/s at the same spot on different days, and sometimes it'll error out and switch back to 3g. LTE signal ranges from -106dbm to -114dbm when I'm doing my speedtests. (signal measured in RSRP)
  18. I can pick up and hold a signal around Eldridge and 290, and West Road and 290. I was at John Eagle Honda last weekend for an oil change and had LTE (using Galaxy S3).
  19. I'm rooted on stock rom - I downloaded the update from the xda link and flashed it myself.
  20. Has Sprint mentioned when 800 and for voice coverage will start to be deployed?
  21. That's good that they're coordinating with Sprint to determine the build out. Clear blew too much money on retail stores instead of building the network and focusing on wholesale.
  22. Setting -> More settings -> Mobile Networks -> Automatic Connections
  23. It seems like the phone is constantly looking for a better signal during those situations, hence the battery drain.
  24. http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/17/3164746/sprint-single-source-enablement-mvno-package Sprint is going to let MVNOs use their LTE network. It'll take some time before prepaid carriers will start offering LTE phones I would think, but hopefully this won't over burden their new 4g network.
  25. No problem, I actually posted that reply pretty quickly, then after reading my post it sounded very snarky. It wasn't intended to come out that way. But I do agree with you, anyone that wants more detailed information about completed towers should become a sponsor.
