  1. Josh, did you beat me to the first FCC OET filing for a Sprint tri band LTE device? I will never forgive you...

    ;)

Sorry. I just plugged in Wednesday thru Friday, and it was in there. I don't even know which day it was authorized.

  2. The zoomed in map is much better than the entire country.  It seems to favor the red iPhone tweets, but when you actually zoom in I tend to see more green, just not as tightly compacted.  IE Lansing. MI area has a great deal more green than red, but East Lansing at the MSU campus is a block of red, however, the zoomed out map just shows that block of red.

  3. Price.

I'm on VZW and gonna have to get family plan with:

    2 iPhones

    1 slider

I'd like to switch to Sprint but that'd cost me:

    $300/month for unlimited everything.

Too much. I don't need unlimited everything and if Sprint were to offer a similar plan to Tmobile's where you get unlimited throttled data after certain full speed amount, I'd go with Sprint.

I have 3 phones on my account, Unlimited everything, LTE devices, with the new TEP charges and with my corp discount I pay just over $200 a month including all taxes, hidden charges, etc.

    Where are you getting $300/month?

    Edit in:

Even if I include what I paid for my phones ($300, $200, $0=$500/24=$20/month on top) it's still under $300.  Without discount, it would be around $250, including upfront phone costs.

  4. I can't wait for Dish's response.  I read a good chunk of the 45 page complaint and I expect the response to be "Wwwwwaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!  Give me Spectrum and a network for free!!!! Wwwwwwwaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!"

I had honestly forgotten about how much of Clearwire's debt Dish had purchased.  It makes much more sense their approach and annoyance.  If Clearwaire ends up in bankruptcy, all Dish will say is "Give me the towers and spectrum, I'm covered."

  5. I think the map on http://coverage.sprint.com is very much generous, showing seamless coverage from Lake Odessa to Williamstown.  I drive from south of Portland to Lansing every day and drop LTE about two miles west of Grand Ledge, then pick up LTE somewhere near the central downtown Lansing area on 496.   I'm not convinced that 'all' are 'on' at this point, even after being publicly announced.   I'm not sure if "launching" is simply acknowledging LTE service in the area or an invitation to use it.

Coverage is a ton better than it was a month ago, but in this area if you're on 3G you can forget doing anything at all.

Almost every tower in the Lansing area has new panels and radios, just waiting on Backhaul and acceptance.  The exception is the lugnut downtown...

  6. I think you are underestimating the effect of SMR and over estimating the cost/benefit of adding that many towers.

When I was camping over the weekend and SMR was being tested, I was skipping the tower 2 miles away and connecting to a tower almost 6 miles away at -92dBm through multiple forests and inside a camper. SMR is going to change the game for voice coverage in West Michigan. I need to see the SMR LTE performance before commenting on that because the airlink is so fragile, but it will make data coverage much better for new devices.

I believe it was stated around here that it is $100k at a bare minimum to stand up a new tower. Where is Sprint going to recoup that cost?

  7. Added a Blackberry to the list that received FCC certification yesterday that has LTE Band 25 (PCS + G), has no CDMA BC10 (SMR), so it's been added to the devices that received Sprint LTE for possible roaming. However, it's the only LTE band it was certified for. So this device really confuses me as to who it's for. Unless of course, Blackberry decided not to put SMR CDMA 1x voice support, which is really an odd thing. Anyone want to chime in?

If, and that's a huge IF I ever wanted another BB device, I wouldn't buy this for the lack of SMR.
