  1. My son is now 7, he took a huge interest in Star Wars about a year ago.  I started with Ep4-6 on DVD (ripped from the widescreen laser disc) then Ep1-3.  He's watched a little of the Clone Wars show, but loves Rebels.

We also have the DVD release of 4-6 with the bonus disc that is what he usually watches nowadays.

    Can't wait for December!!!

  2. Does anybody know how long it'll take Sprint to convert existing WiMax sites into Sprint cell sites after WiMax has been fully shutdown.

No one knows what sites will continue in service and what ones will be shutdown due to redundant Sprint sites in the area.

If the existing Band 41 equipment will support it, the expectation is that additional LTE B41 carriers will be broadcast.

If a site is scheduled for full conversion, then it will eventually be a rip and replace with NV antennas and backhaul.

  3. Because many of the LTE engineering screen fields are not populated, I would tend to side with SignalCheck Pro on this one. On the 2015 Moto X, be sure not to leave the LTE engineering screen in the recent apps drawer for more than a day or two. For some reason, it does not like that and starts to misbehave. You have to close it and whip out the dialer code again.

I really like the aesthetics of my white/bamboo 2015 Moto X. The screen to body ratio makes the size manageable, and the hand feel is solid. But the RF performance is only average. And the engineering screen/Signal Check Pro issues are beyond the pale. So, this beauty queen likely is going into very early retirement. I await the imminent shipment of my Nexus 5X.

Hopefully they fix the engineering screens in the Marshmallow upgrade. I reported it the first day that my phone was working.

I very rarely pull from recent apps for the engineering data, force of habit to enter the dialer code.

Probably not a high priority item, but a boy can dream.

  4. Well, it's apparent you never really used your root so I can understand the need to not care about it.  I actually USE my rooted device (think Tasker and Secure Settings for starters.) so rooting matters to me more than just getting rid of bloat apps.

Such a gross generalization here.  Making assumptions about how and why one utilizes their mobile device.  As I've come to learn with age, to each their own...

That's a remarkably astute statement. I'm sincerely curious - what insight gleaned from my comments has enabled you to reach such an incisive conclusion?

    Have a great evening,

    John

I used to root them all too. My Moto X 2014 was my first device that worked great and never felt the need to root. Also never rooted my Nexus 6 after that. I don't know if modern Android devices are just that good, or I'm just over all that. But I don't miss it or feel like I need to.

This is the first device that I haven't rooted.  Unless Motorola leaves us high and dry for updates (which it doesn't appear, yet) or they break something so bad that the only way to fix is root, I'm really satisfied with this phone.  Everything just works, i honestly can't say that about any other device I've ever had.

My android experience had always been with HTC or Samsung, so there has always been massive skins.  In the early days of Android, there was that need, but not any longer.  I first rooted for custom ROMs on my HTC EVO, then CM to get the clean android experience once WiMax got working.  My next three devices were Samsungs S2, Note 2, S4T which were all good phones, but the TouchWiz OS just annoyed the crap out of me.  I rooted to either debloat, enable added features, fix Samsung bugs, or run the current CM release.

I think the oddest reason I had to root was the S2/Epic 4g Touch.  The modem was terrible from day one with dropped calls, random roaming, not connecting, etc.  Had to have custom kernels to reset the radio so it would connect.  Then the SuperBrick bug with the eMMC issues, that device was a disaster.  I still managed to sell it for $150 after 15ish months to get my Note 2.

  5. There is a halfway decently popular thread over at XDA about a soak test or "test drive" for new software for the Moto X Pure.  Sounds like invitees got two emails, the first a longer survey about thier device, then a second about encryption.

Typical NDA talk, hopefully none of them get whacked due to posting.

Assuming the work towards Marshmallow for the Pure/Style is well under way :)

  6. I can send in spreadsheet form, not too many adds

  7. what's the deal with 2nd carriers? is it only possible where 10x10 is available? or is this just a 2nd radio, both using the same 5x5 spectrum? can / is this going to be done everywhere? particularly Grand Rapids? :D

10x10 is only available if Sprint has the C block that butts up to the G block or other 10mhz FDD acquired spectrum (uscc/revol). Sprint is shutting down unneeded 1x and EVDO carriers where available and creating second 5mhz FDD carrier. AJ did an awesome spreadsheet awhile back that shows where there is a 15mhz FDD PCS block that will allow a second LTE carrier. Check the blogs on the wall.

  8. Coming from galaxy s4t which had the best radio performance of any device I've ever used, there is a small drop. Fringe LTE bounces between LTE and eHRPD. I live rurally, first floor of my house used to be LTE B41 or B25 except the center bathroom which would drop to eHRPD. Now first floor is eHRPD and B25, occasional B41. Second floor LTE B41 & B25 are fine.

In the city with urban coverage, it's rock solid.

  9. Since getting the Moto X and being off CM, I've been running into the 1X+LTE bug a lot.  The thing that I notice the most during this when I have both, the "Serving Cell" and "PLMN ID" in the engineering screens is blank.  This is consistent across all LTE band connections, once those fields populate, SCP is accurate.  SCP is doing its job as I see the 1X numbers change and they match what is being reported in the 1x engineering screen too.  I've see both LTE and 1X listed as idle in engineering.  I'm wondering if the OS might see the eCSFB paging occurring and somehow it is remembering both connections even though only a single one is active.

Caveat, the engineering screens in the moto x are not the best as the band identification is one low and I have seen times where the band is listed as 40 (meaning 41) and the UL/DL channels are PCS G Block.

  10. I'll start out with a Caveat...Moto X Pure/Style with less than reliable engineering screens.

I was looking at the LTE engineering and saw 26365/8365 UL/DL channels for band "24," which means 25 on this device. As far as I know, the Lansing, MI area doesn't have a B25 second carrier deployed, I'm always in the G Block of 26665/8665.

Digging up AJs frequency posts that equals center frequencies of 1882.5/1962.5 which puts it in the in the PCS B Block which is the Detroit MTA and appears to be valid.

I'm sure this has been reported for other B Block markets, but first time I've seen it in Lansing.

  11. Does Sprint only broadcast LTE on 800 or doe it use 800 for CDMA as well?

In short, as I'm not the best at this, what all is 800 MHz used for with Sprint? So I also don't get Band 41 either it guess, as my device isn't equiped to use that frequency either?

If there is enough spectrum, Sprint will run two CDMA 1x voice carriers and one 5Mhz FDD LTE carrier

  12. The only two Sprint compatible handsets that we know for a fact use a 4FF nano SIM running CSIM are the HTC One M9 and the 2015 Moto X aka Pure Edition aka Style.  That is a small sample set.

Probably, some/all of the Samsung and LG handsets released over the summer do, too, but we have no confirmation.  And even among S4GRU users, most who have acquired new handsets that recently have not also acquired additional handsets.

I may be one of the first.  I have a 2015 Moto X, but I also have a Nexus 5X that is pending shipment.  I do this research for me -- and for all of you.

    AJ

I believe last years Nexus 6 used the 4FF CSIM v5 too
