  1. It's done, it's done, it's finally done.  Tried to activate via the website, took the MEID and ICC, but still got an error that it couldn't activate.  Had to go back to online chat.  He had me turn both phones off, the he asked me to remove the battery for the ESN/DEC.  I explained that the battery was not removable.  With the phone off the best i could do was the IMEI from the box and that the MEID was the same with the last number removed.  He finally came back and had me turn the phone on for activation to occur.  Took a bit, but it's done!

  2. I think you are the exact case that Open World is geared towards?  Amirite?  Incidental usage while on your trip when most of the time you'll be on WiFi.  Seems like less of a hassle to add the free add-on to your plan and use your phone as you would normally.

It's just my wife and I, so we'll be calling home daily to check in on the kids.  $0.20/min on calling gets me 50mins of voice for $10 or I can double that with the prepaid SIM (plus data charges on top).

  3. I'm heading to Jamaica in January, I'm debating between using Open World or just picking up a prepaid SIM from digicell or Lime.

On Lime/Flow for like $7.75 I can get 90mins international calling, 2gb data in a 7 day period.  Plus the resort is covered in Wifi.

digicell would be about the same for more minutes and only 1gb data.

My worry with OpenWorld is that if I lose the resort wifi, that I'd rack up data charges unintentionally.

  4. By the way, everyone, the kitted SIM option that has only now been added as promised to Moto Maker is a perfect example of why you do not have to be an early adopter, maybe even should not be an early adopter.  If you insist upon being a pioneer, expect problems, and if you complain, those complaints come across as tone deaf.

AJ, while early adopters will always feel some pain, you can't place all of the blame for this on that point alone.  Sprint has been doing this for two years with the Nexus 6, Nexus 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, (maybe iPhone 5/S/C) etc.  There should be a very easy to obtain document for any support agent or store employee to reference.

I.E. Here is who you call if the IMEI/MEID won't activate, here is the SIM Compatibility matrix.

I understand release day and maybe even day two, however, by day three there should be documents all over the place on how a new device should be handled.

We are all tech nerds, but what will the college bro/sorority girl do with their new iPhone that just shipped in from mommy and daddy or your middle aged retiree that ordered a new device from the Google Play Store?  They'll walk their happy butt across the street to the Blue/Red/Magenta store and be rolling in 15 mins.

The carrier needs to shoulder there portion of the blame too.  I documented my experience in an email to Sprint executive support and got a call back today, it is being looked into and hopefully some good change will come from the experience I had regarding customer service.  BYOD appears to be the way of the future, get solid process/procedure in place now to make customers happy and not want to go to another carrier.

As for my dilemna, my SIM is out for delivery with UPS, guessing I'll see it this afternoon as UPS switch routes recently.  We used to be morning, but are not later in the day.

  5. I have all my apps installed and configured, along with a couple of pictures and videos from the weekend.  The pictures and videos are 373MB.  My available space is 2.81GB, I plan on picking up a 64GB or 128GB SD card for picture/video/download storage.

    Edit in:

I currently have 767MB cached data and 355MB of podcasts downloaded

  6. With the upgrade, the new Ericsson radios are far superior and can broadcast at a higher power. Also, this will allow 4x2 MIMO. So really, this isn't so much about added CDMA capacity, it's just one benefit.

The first generation Ericsson NV radios were crap. Ericsson is basically having to switch them out free of charge. All this is bonus for Sprint to do this switch. The only thing is it should have been done this way from the beginning. So I'm not sure why people are against this.

Who's paying the tower crew Sprint or Ericsson?

  7. Seeing as there is no tracking number associated with my order, I'm guessing my chances of seeing a SIM today are slim and none.  I understand this is a new release device and there was some confusion on Thursday/Friday, however, this is a customer service failure of the highest order.

I'm going to be documenting my experiencing and sending it up the management chains.

  8. That's weird man. I got on the phone with them 2 times only. First time like 12 minutes and the second time like 15 minutes. Second time they found the correct SIM and was shipped overnight.

I spent an hour in the store on Friday afternoon (wrong SIM #1), an hour with online support Friday night, 12hrs via twitter on Saturday, another hour on Sunday, next day shipping got me (wrong SIM #2).  Another two hours via twitter tonight, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

  9. on to day five with this phone and still no sprint service, two incorrect SIMs, trying to get a third sent to me.  I've shared with online support the SIM information from this thread, but it hasn't seemed to help.

My frustration level is through the roof.  I wanted to go to my Sprint store on Saturday, but online support promised me that they would handle it.  By Sunday morning, I had a shipping number and it got delivered late today, only to not work.  Even worse, this SIM won't even see the Sprint network.  At least the first one did that!  Earliest I can visit a Sprint store is Friday due to work and family schedules.

One Store visit, two different online chats, and 15 hrs+ of working with @SprintCare on twitter.  What a joke...

Hopefully I'll have another SIM tomorrow that will work...

  10. Interesting. A couple pages back someone posted that the correct Sim is CZ2114LWC. Now its CZ4114LWC? All that changes is one digit from 2 to 4

I noticed that as well, I will be very interested to see what happens tomorrow.  Unfortuantely, I will be in town for work, then have a crazy busy evening with the family.  I won't get to test it until after all the kids stuff is done and they are in bed.

  11. Wow, a lot has happened since Saturday morning.  I worked with Exec support via Twitter most of Saturday, into the evening.  About 9pm, they finally figured out that the recommended SIM is SKU CZ4114LWC, unfortunately, I was engrossed in the MSU-Oregon game so I didn't see the message until about 10p.  I worked with them again Sunday morning and they are shipping the SIM to me.  UPS has already scheduled the delivery for tomorrow.

I'm loving the device via Wifi, i think I'll love it even more as a phone.

Sucks what has been discovered regarding the engineering screens.  What was done to get that resolved on the Moto X 2013?

  12. Please do.  I am thinking about returning my Moto Maker one whenever it gets here and just picking up one at Best Buy tomorrow.  Honestly, I don't really care what it looks like.  I saw a nearby Bestbuy has the black one in stock.  My device still hasn't shipped and my Nexus 5 doesn't hold a charge at all anymore.  Lucky to get 6-8 hours of very light usage from it.

The SIM they shipped me is SIMGLW406R.  Doesn't look like Sprint was prepared.  You would think they would be able to have somewhere within their system that says the exact SIM this device needs.  Strange that everyone keeps getting different ones, ha.

45 minutes of nothing, but frustration.  I have been told I was given the wrong SIM, it is not compatible with the Moto X.  However, the tech could not tell me what the right SIM was, tried to shove me off to order support with an 800 number.  With the SIM in, my Moto X sees the Sprint network, sees the LTE signal, gives me readings that are comparable to my S4T, so it seems to work with the phone fine.  Tweeted at Marcelo's team to see if this can get straightened out.
