When you say it had "almost full signal" are you referring to the signal bars? If so, that is the indicator for 1X. You'll actually need to check the debug screen to see what the LTE signal was at. Sounds like within the Sprint store, was on a fringe LTE signal and may have a loaded sector at the time.Could someone explain to me why Wichita has such bad LTE? i thought it was just my crappy Evo LTE but i went to the sprint store at 21st and maize to look at the s4. It had almost full signal and running a speed test it barely got over 1000kb. I know they have been working on Wichita since last June or whenever but how can they not have this fixed? I don't understand how any could walk into a sprint store and sign a 2 year contract with the network the way it is. I keep seeing network vision is supposed to be complete in June or July here but is it ever going to get better? I've been dealing with sprint to keep my SERO plan but it's almost got to the point i can't take it anymore!

I took a look around xda but could not find anything. Hopefully one will surface.

Looks like it was done with JTAG. Hopefully someone comes up with an easier method and one that doesn't cost haha

I can't wait til they start deploying 800 and 2600 for LTE. My site hunting has come almost to a stop since all sites (yes, all four of them) have been upgraded.

Wow... kernel source for the Sprint One has already been released. Only took HTC 11 days from release

If anybody is easily able to recreate the "Left Hand Death Grip", give this a shot. If you have the pro version of SignalCheck, set 1x to be static on the notification bar with a dBm reading. Bring up speedtest but do not start a test. Go ahead and grip the phone with your left hand to recreate the death grip. Once you are around a -100 reading start a speedtest and look at your 1X reading.
I've noticed with mine in the few instances I can recreate the death grip and starting some sort of data connection (speedtest was the easiest to do), my signal will jump right back to around -79 to -83 where it normally sits at.
To me, that sounds like for some reason or other when gripped at the bottom with the left hand, the dual antenna is switching to antenna 1 (which has a max RF ERP/EIRP of 13.58 dBm of CDMA1X/EV-DO 1900), then once a data transmission is initiated it switches back to antenna 0.
Maybe that isn't the case but if anybody wants to give that a shot, let me know your results. One other thing I noticed was when I do have the phone in a "Death Grip", and initiate a speedtest, download on LTE will be fine but upload will bottom out. As soon as I let go mid way through the upload it picks right back up and will complete normally.

Cool... so it definitely looks like something is in the works.

This is a nice close up pic from gr8nuguy.Is it because of the refrigerators above the RRUs? Is that how you can tell it'll be CDMA 800 capable?

The HTC Logo can be used as a capacitive button after all.
With a custom kernel of course.

Christmas in April. You should bake some cookies and take them over to the techs.
Looks like it is wired up for 800 so that should definitely help with Voice once it is active.

I'll be going around Wichita this weekend with my Dad (GS3) and brother (EVO LTE) to do some testing. I know for a fact right now if I just sat down with a GS3 side by side the GS3 would register better RSRP but the real world testing I'm going to do will be moving about and doing some building testing as well.Sounds like a comparison between an S3 and EVO LTE. Sounds like HTC got this one up to the level of the Samsung devices. Good deal!
How's the bootloader and rooting deal? Easy? Crazy like the evo lte got?

As for the bootloader, from what I've read HTC may have finally changed up their ways when unlocking and dealing with S-ON. Some one here posted a link to a post by Koush and he said boot can be flashed from recovery.
Here it is: https://plus.google.com/103583939320326217147/posts/WykbCAAVcrv
I will probably end up unlocking and going that route but if S-OFF comes up I will definitely do that. A lot easier making a zip rather than relocking and taking an OTA.

That is just an example of the One idling versus the Evo. A good real world test I've done so far is how my One will hold LTE while going into a huge metal building everybody calls Walmart. I was able to make it to the very back and the One held on to the fringe LTE signal and then finally dropped back to EVDO. I could barely make it pass the registers with my EVO LTE.So what your saying is..... based off RSRP values the One gets worse LTE reception than the EVO?

I'm seeing this as well on mine. When I had my EVO activated sitting on my couch, it would sit between -100 and -103. With my One, it will hang around -104 -105, then go to about -97 for a little bit then back up.My One arrived this afternoon. I did some side by side RSRP comparisons with my EVO LTE. Idle signal strength is not substantially different. Sometimes, the One has higher RSRP, sometimes the EVO LTE does. On the average, though, the One seems to idle 2-3 dB higher than the EVO LTE does. The One is head and shoulders better than the EVO LTE, however, in acquiring and holding LTE.AJ

I'll be testing my One, an EVO LTE and a GS3 side by side this weekend.
I do notice fluctuations in RSRP going up and down. Not sure if that's attributed to the dual antenna system switching back and forth or what.
My One is hardware version 0004 for what it's worth.

Any way we can send a 6 pack of your favorite brew? :-)
Funny story today. Went to go get my One and I already had $50 down from the day before for deposit. When she rang it up today she kept saying it's not showing the $50 deposit. She called up her manager and manager approved a $50 credit. Come to find out when it was all said and done the $50 deposit was actually on there so all and all I only paid $162 for my One.
I'll be passing that $50 along in the morning!

That is part of the SignalCheck Pro appSo this is probably a super n00b question but how did you get the rf numbers to show up in the pull down menu?
Edit: Or up in the left hand corner too for that matter

Got mine. will post up pics in a bit
So the "print" issue is fixed and debug still there. Now to do some RF testing.

I was at a best buy a couple of days ago and they did not have any display models, only dummies. That may vary for locations. A Sprint store might be your best bet.Do Sprint or Best Buy have store display models for them? I'm just curious to see how it works.
-
Probably would have been moot point though. I'm pretty sure i read over on xda the engineering screens were still on the retail units some people part of a VIP program got early and on an unactivated LTE device I don't think I can see RSRP values.
-
Hahahaha i know i know ....i should have asked if I could have turned it on.But you did not fire it up and check out the engineering screens??? I am a little disappointed in you...
