  1. has anyone rooted with this new KK... i have looked around... but they all seem to be ify

Are you asking if anyone running ZVC software (Kitkat) on their Sprint G2 has rooted? If so, yes, lots of folks and it couldn't be easier really. It's so easy, it's sad if you have been into rooting/custom stuff for awhile. ioroot is the best (and main method) and then use Autorec to install recovery and patch up your partitions so you have download mode.

Once rooted, I recommend this rom by Team d3rp, they seem like pretty decent guys and I hear the rom is pretty sweet and solid as stock.

  2. When does it switch over? Because at work I get like a -102dBm on CDMA 1900 and phone calls barely work. I wish it'd kick me over to 1x 800 sooner.

You might be able to force it over if you cycle airplane mode. You using Signal Check?

  3. Is there a way to port the lG G3 rom over to the G2? A stable verison that works with the sprint variant

I'm sure Cloudyfa will do that.  IIRC he's already working on it but I haven't actively looked for nor ran it. Check on XDA.

  4. Man, I wish I was that lucky. I've only had that luck one time, and that was with the Palm Pre.I look at it like this; if you buy a car and it needs service, you don't take it back to the plant it was built at, do you?

Ah, well, I think you have to re-frame it (and I'm not saying I'm on Sprint's side but....) because if you don't have a "Service plan" and take the car to the dealer, they are going to "Service" your car a price, to you because it costs them. They might just do it as a good gesture (lets fix that squeak to keep this customer happy so he buys another car from us) but it's never a sure bet. Same with warranty work, if your car is under warranty the dealer, any dealer, will fix AND get paid from the MFG for fixing it. If it's out of warranty, its all on you.

Since Sprint isn't getting paid by HTC to work on our phones they have to recoop something, somehow.  Sadly enough, their hard line on repairs has come out of people gaming the system and ultimately costing Sprint. Just add insurance, get phone taken care of at Sprint store and remove insurance next month. It'll cost you $11 and some of your time.

    Good luck man

  5. To get a G2 now doesn't make sense when all the band 26 eCSFB issues are going on,GPS issues and the fact that the G3 comes out next month

Neither band 26 nor eCSFB issues are a "G2" issue, it is one that if in a market that is still rolling out, will effect any and all tri-band devices, including the G3.

At least the issues with the G2 are known. What kind of wizardry awaits those who get the G3?

Truuuuu, there is always something. :)

That's Samsung. We are talking about LG and they don't have a good update history for updating old flagships

To be fair, LG hadn't had the greatest track record with updating ANY device sans LG G2.  Hopefully they continue the trend and support for a full 2yr like we have seen HTC commit to.  I will say, we have been treated very well over the almost year that the G2 has been available and I for one, won't be walking away from it. G3 is beast, but not enough to totally eclipse G2,... now, if rumors of G3 Prime are true, that would be a proper update from G2 but we shall see.... we shall see.

  6. thank you, im on a zva rom now (bareback) [emoji5]

That's my baby! Let me know if you have any questions come up of need to restore anything. We have some restore zips done already (found in thread) but I never know if there could be others needed if no one asks.  :)

Oh, I should have said, you may need to shut down band 26 and 41 to actually help your phone stop the connectivity issues.  This may not work either way though, I can attest to the same behavior in my market as the old legacy was being phased out and NV equipment was coming online. You might not dodge the connectivity woes BUT do know, it got Much MUCH better after the dust settled.

  7. So I can go back that way even if I'm I ZVC? Just flashing a ZVA rom? It won't brick my phone?

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

I'll start by saying, why on earth would I tell you something that would brick your phone? :)

Second, you need to flash a ZVA rom AND ZVA modem in the same recovery session and you'll be set.  I don't know what state your phone is in (rooted, stock rom etc) but yes, just rom and radio is needed to downgrade as the ZVC firmware other than radio seems to be backwards compatible.

Go here for ZVA modem/radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451426

and choose the ZVA rom of your liking. Remember, BOTH in same session.

    1. I have done it

    2. Our testers have done it

    3. I'm sure many others have as well

  8. I found it, just downloading now, I live in Denver and 4g it's on the works so my phone keeps losing data all the time

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

Are you rooted? If so, just flash ZVA rom and radio.  I mean, tot is easy if you've done it before (which you have) but flashing rom is lot easier and no need to back up you storage so you don't lose everything. :)

  9. Glad my market is LTE launched and those troubles are a thing of the past. We track very closely here so I have to say, if it was 6 months ago, I wouldn't have upgraded to ZVC either (I did a ton of reporting in LTE Only mode) but it's good to go now.

  10. Disappointment. I chose not to install KK but even with that I shouldn't be getting raped like this.

Huh? I see the blue in notification bar so I think you are saying you are still on ZVA and looks like Google Services is acting up. I will tell you that I have NOT ever seen services issues since I upgraded to ZVC, seems like a couple months back. I saw it plenty on ZVA and no known cause or sure fire fix and just had to sit it out

Why are you not updating to ZVC?

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

  11. ZVC is the most recent version (Android 4.4.2). Not sure why, but the Sprint page you linked to was last updated on 21 March, which was a week or so before ZVC started rolling out. You'd think Sprint would have updated the page by now.

Yeah, originally was suppose to be ZVB and Sprint, as we have seen many times before, screwed up the update page. I'd be telling a lie if I said I was surprised it's not fixed. Lol

  12. Hi Terry - I'm a little late to the party, as I had eye surgery a little while ago and it has cut into my forum-reading time (as well as minor things like work and family time :P ).

I was pretty much exactly in your shoes a few months ago, switching from a HTC Evo to either the G2 or the N5. I went with the G2 in early April.

To answer your first question: I also live in a fringe area with a relatively weak signal, and RF reception is very important to me (and band 41 is not yet live in my area). I've been very pleased with the LTE performance of the G2 so far; it seems to grab a signal better than the Evo, and hold onto it longer (I've had good results with a signal as weak as -118 dBm). Some people have complained that the G2 holds onto LTE too long, refusing to switch to 3G even when LTE is unusable, but I have yet to experience that myself.

Besides the radio, I pretty much have to agree with everything that Ascertion said above (post #4985).

As for your second question, I had very little trouble adjusting to the LG UI from Sense, although I did miss some of the Sense widgets. And I was just getting to like Blinkfeed, which I had on my phone for just a few weeks before moving on to the G2. But honestly, after I got the G2 set up the way wanted it, I switched back to using Nova Prime as my regular launcher. The biggest difference (for me , anyway) was losing the knock-off feature, which works differently in Nova - you can only tap the notification bar, not just anywhere on the screen. Knock-on works just fine under Nova.

Try the app "Screen off and Lock" and tie it to your double tap gesture to restore the tap off functionality.

  13. I just had to say that Team d3rp SuperG2 is pretty awesome. I've been running it for a week now and it is stable and fast. I'd recommend that anyone give it a try.

Thanks! We're just getting started.  :tu:

    LG G3

The phone has some sound chip, but the speaker nails it without any of that stuff. Good, heavy magnet and seems well made. At any rate, back on the topic...there isn't any word on when release date will be on the g3 yet?

Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk

The H/K M8 is the same hardware as the regular M8 but has different software (there are additional and diff sound libs) for the Clarifi.

That sucks about your G2 man! The M8 is a good device, have used quite a bit sadly enough, G3 seems like it will be the better device. Have fun with it man.

*Personally, if I were you, now that you have a phone of some kind, I'd find a used G2 in Swappa or CL and return the M8 and resume the wait for G3. The alternative is paying retail (over the next 24m) for the M8 or renting it for the next 12m if your rolling with Unlimited data.

  15. You're right, never noticed this before because I was using Hangouts as my default messaging app.

Only reason I know is because I had someone asking me about it and first I was like, "Why you need group messaging anyway, that ish is silly" but I then looked to see and sure nuff it wasn't there. I only use Hangouts as well so I knew the setting was there so switched them over to Hangouts and they are in Group Messaging bliss now. Lol

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

  16. I believe starting with Android 4.2 group messaging became a standard feature in Android, but you do have to turn it on in the message settings.  Check your sms app in the MMS settings and you should see group messaging.  Prior to Android 4.2 you had to use a third party sms app such as Textra, Handcent, etc.  I use Hangouts as my sms app and the group message feature is there.

It is not in our LG Messaging app.

    LG G3

Actually I am looking at the dimensions of the phone and the LG G3 is about the same height as the HTC One M8 except the LG G3 has a 0.5 inch larger screen than the HTC One M8.  The LG G3 dimensions are not simply the same as the LG G2 but with smaller bezels.

    LG G2 = 5.45 x 2.79 x 0.35 inches (138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm)

    LG G3 = 5.76 x 2.94 x 0.35 inches (146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm)

    HTC One M8 = 5.76 x 2.78 x 0.37 inches (146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm)

    GS5 = 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32 inches (142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm)

LG did a great job one again in bringing back some of the key features which made Samsung stand out which were removable battery and microSD card support.  Love the "polished metal finish" look even though it is still plastic.  I'll be interesting in seeing this new laser auto focus and the QHD resolution.  Nice specs overall and "keeps up with the jones".

"even though it is still plastic"

Where did you see that? Maybe I missed some leaks here and there but the live event said, "light weight metal".  Overall, I feel now, after seeing the UI and other additional features, I'll probably get it even though it's not a huge bump from the G2, the total package has drawn me in. :)

Being that we all are pretty keen on RF performance around here, it'll be interesting to see how that looks on paper as well and.... if the device they were showing is the wireless charging device or if they are doing 2 variations like the G2.  It was strange to see the 2 versions in the G2 but I'd use wireless charging if available and if not, no worries.

  17. Is there something different about the ear plug connection?  Every earplug falls out of my phone.

Are you using a case? I have trouble with mine when the case is on it so I have to remove case if I'm going to be moving around a bunch.

  18. Yep I like that one better than the "take up half your notification bar lte Wal-Mart emblem"

    Haha

Sent from my HTC One M8

Yeah, the "LTE" icon is pretty silly.  We've removed it from both our M8 and LG G2 roms... star is fine, it's useful and only takes one slot. :)

  19. Found out that only 24 cities have the full Spark network in place. The tri band operation of the M8 is not fully functional everywhere. If you have it turned on (default setting) your calls and texts get blocked every night, so if you get it to refresh with the tower the next day, it will crap out overnight, every night.

So far the temp fix is to set the phone to CDMA until your towers are 100% upgraded, ETA "end of the year" per Sprint's press release. Limits you to 3G... STUPID BLEEDING EDGE!

I've replaced my phone 3 times troubleshooting this, Samsung Galaxy S5 (twice) now an HTC One M8, same results, fought with support for nearly 2 weeks, started browsing internet on my own. HMPH....

Waiting on a call from the network guy from Sprint CS and will ask about the sim card activation. But until I make an outbound call on Automatic or CDMA/LTE setting, first thing the next morning, callers go straight to voice mail, texts get dropped or pend till manual refresh with the tower.

Well, that's odd that it's rendering the phone useless, actually, sounds wrong, real wrong. While there are only 24 Spark launched markets, plenty have been launched LTE markets which means NV1 equipment is up and at least 40% if the market had LTE on band 25. These same cities should have b26 deployed and if they are in the top 100, they'll see band 41.

A LTE launched market may be having band 26 deployed and the network does indeed act a bit strange BUT to my knowledge, no other tri-band device simply does not work on LTE at all, like it sounds like you are saying.

Something is going on but making your M8 CDMA only for the rest of the year is madness. Have you tried limiting your active bands to just b25?? That's regular LTE, is your market an official NV1 LTE launched market?

You should upgrade your account to sponsor and see if you can get at some more advanced data about your market in here. 1) You'll learn more and 2) Helping to keep the server hamster feed and running will give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside. [emoji2]

  20. I got my M8 unlocked and put in a SIM while in Austria. After a few reboots, I got it working in 3G where it means I get about 4mbit downloads. Anyway, periodically my data connection drops, so I toggle airplane mode. Here's question number one:

I need to enter a PIN for the SIM each time I do that. This PIN is needed to enable the SIM and is not something I set in settings. Is there an option of removing that prompt?

    LG G3

if you have a g2 maybe not so much! Lg really just needs to upgrade the software in there devices as most of the competition has learned to do. My mom has an lg optimus g and no 4.4.2! No reason why it shouldn't but... It doesn't exist. So her next phone may be then a moto x, or 2013 HTC one m7, used as a slight upgrade. Lg hardware always does things right in terms or hardware though so I keep my eye on them.

I think LG has worked hard to change the reality of slow to no updates that they had become known for in the past, starting with the G2.  the device (for Sprint) was released in October IIRC and we have had 3 substantial updates now. Not bad if you ask me AND very clear improvements through those updates.

I'm good with my G2 (no real complaints which is rare) and plan (*plan) staying on until the G4 I suppose, something with SD810 in it as that's a real update to the SD800 SoC and I have faith that LG will continue improving over the next year.
